WW1 sounds pretty interesting, but as Fire Daemon said, you can't say no the the prospect of mummies, so my number 1 choice is WW1, no. 2 dig site.

How complex are we going to do the character sheets? I made a quick couple just to see what's what and 19 sheets of that may get a little batshit crazy for you Rain.

Well, Capone was a Yith plant anyway. Literally.

OK...quick creation system :
Str/Con/Dex/App/Pow/Int rolled on 3d6
Siz is 2d6+6
Edu is 3d6+3

SAN=LUCK=5xPOW
KNOW=5xEDU (Max 95%)
IDEA=5xINT

Hitpoints are (SIZ+CON)/2, Magic points are equal to POW, Damage bonus is tough to work out but if you have 14 in both STR+SIZ, +4, if you've over 16, +6.

I would STRONGLY recommend Byakhee or Metacreator for the Professions, because there's over 30; but if you want to hack your own; you have EDUx20 points in 7 core skills, and then INTx10 to spread amongst the others.

Doesn't Byakhee do all that...much faster as well? Should I just use that after all?

Oh, and there doesn't seem to be a v. 6.0 of the rules on that site, so should I just use 5.5 or 5.0?

It does, but it's also a guide for Purp for his NPC's :)

AFAIK, 6.0 isn't too much of an upgrade to 5/5.5. I think it's only things like the Great War Rule, Extra Schooling, Shoot through and other things that don't matter much.

Okay. Also, are we sure Byakhee is...balanced? I chose author as my occupation and it has given me 105% on my own language...meh?!

The highest I myself have allocated is 80% in persuade and psychology, but I'm guessing it rolled a high EDU because I still have a lot of points left - didn't spend them for the sake of balance, I already have 3 at or above 80% and 4 at 50%, but are we sure this thing is making accurate characters?

EDIT; I have two high stats, 18 DEX and 21 EDU, but everything else is below 16 (rolled 16 size, 15 INT, everything else is rather low) so maybe it was just a very one sided roll.

Speak Own Language is equal to EDUx5, so 105 is right. You'll still fail on 95%+

High Education (21 is like Phd Level) does give you a lot to work with. You can buy extra languages (Aramaic, Sanskrit or Latin is always useful. German too.)

I've used Byakhee for years. It's a great program. :)

Yeah, it looks like my character is going to know a lot but fail ultimately if it comes to shooting something...

Thanks for the help, got a character set up now.

Get nice and snug. It begins!

Prologue

Landing in Cairo, Egypt, but a few hours ago, you are greeted by an Egyptian taxi driver sent by Dr Hubert Spencer, an old friend and a History teacher. He left his teaching days in the dust to set up a Museum in Cairo collecting and gathering many antiquities and ancient treasures. Though in his old age, he has started to slow down a bit and has called upon his favored students and friends to come and help him with his ?biggest find yet.? Loading your gear into the boot of the taxi (or entourage of taxis) you prepare to visit into the vast and unexplored worlds of Egypt.

Character set up:

Root speaks the truth. But to go over it all:

You have 8 basic skills that count for you:
Strength(Str) muscle power; Constitution(Con) measure of health; Dexterity(Dex) how quick you are; Appearance(App) personal beauty; Power(Pow) measure of a persons charisma, soul or will; Intelligents(Int) how smart you are; Size(Siz) body weight and height and Education(Edu) amont of time you've been studying before entering the game world.

All Str/Con/Dex/App/Pow/Int are rolled on 3d6
Siz is 2d6+6
Edu is 3d6+3

Then you have your Sanity and Luck which is 5xPOW.
You also have your Knowledge which is 5xEDU (Max 95%).
And your Idea, 5xINT.
Dodge is worked out on DEXx2

Hitpoints are half of your (SIZ+CON), Magic points are equal to POW

Damage bonus is how much more extra damage you can do in melee or unarmed.
It's worked out both your Str and Siz added up:
02-12: -1d6
13-16: -1d4
17-24: none
25-32: +1d4
33-40: +1d6
41-56: +2d6
And I doubt anyone will be higher. If so just ask me.

On the character sheets you will find your skills. You have an extra EDUx20 points in 7 core skills groups, and then you can add INTx10 to spread amongst the others. You add these on to the total score, ie, If I add 20 onto my I will get Accounting 10(original score)+20=30.

and
http://www.dragonsfoot.org/files/pdf/coc1920sheet2.pdf

At first you will not need to know about any guns and we will assume you're all students or friends of Dr Spenser.

EDIT:
One ast thing. You're in EGYPT. It might be a good idea to speak, or at least one person that can speak/write EGYPTIAN or aniciet hyrogliphics. Just a heads up. EGYPT!

OOC: Ok, I've made my character based on the guy I had running in the last RP (yeah kinda unoriginal but I like him so much) and everything is set and ready to go. Do we keep our character sheets to ourselves or post them up?

Post them up. You're all friends so you know all the details about each other. Also, if you want, you can post up a bit of background info and perhaps your profesion or traits so we're not all in the dark to who you are.

OOC: So far all I've needed is Byakhee 3.01 which Root linked to - Linkage for clickage [http://www.geocities.com/siliconvalley/haven/4173/byakhee.html], and the back-sheet add on on the same page; they're the same sheet-style Rain linked to and the program itself does all your rolls for you.

Rain, should we add phobias or anything like that? And how much background do we need? If we're students we won't really have had a lot of life to write about. Also, could you specify our age-group? Byakhee randomly rolled 27 and I'm guessing that just might be too old, so if you give me an idea I'll see if Byakhee will let me change it.

The rules are basic. It's mostly based on investigating so it's up to you on what you do. All checks are made on a D100. Below your score or equal means a pass. As far as I can see your DEX is your initiative. Other than that, there is really little much to learn. Whwn first incountering certain things, I will run you through on how they work. You can also grapple or resist Str or Pow on a special chart which also uses D100.

You can make up your age group. Also you don't have to be a student. You could be a cop, teacher, priest, whatever that's a friend with Dr Spencer.

As with phobias, they come in later. You'll see. Bwahahahaha!

Well here [http://i285.photobucket.com/albums/ll50/plague_monk/CharacterSheet3-1.jpg] is a link to my investigator sheet. If you feel I should edit something let me know. I'm still knew to this and I don't think I fully understand everything yet.

As for my character, well...

Jack was born and grew up in in Cambridge, the only son to a wealthy property owner he had a fairly luxurious life until around the age of 19 when his parents where killed in a bank robbery gone wrong. Following this he left University and gave up on Ancient History to follow a career in the Police Force. He had passed his tests with flying colours and was considered one of the finniest police officers ever to join the force by his superiors. Jack was only in the force for six months when he grew aware of the extensive corruption that ran through both the legal and political systems. Disgusted by this, he decided to give up on the force and become a Private Investigator.

Jack knew Dr Spencer since he was eighteen. The man was his Lecturer and one of his few friends, before Dr Spencer left for Egypt the two would occasionally enjoy drinks with each other and argue about the finer points of Egyptian culture, he had also turned to the doctor for advice quite a few times in the past.

Jack is a drinker and he carries a hip flask with him at all times however he has decided to try and avoid drinking while in Egypt as he is afraid the hot sun would be dreadful for a hangover.

People still use WinZip? Pfft. WinRaR's where it's at.

And *is* there a cutoff point for starting skill percentages?

Also, I'm a little confused. How is it we automatically know 30% of how to operate and maintain a shotgun? I'd imagine we'd know more about pistols (But not a lot at any rate).

Root told me that unless it starts out like that, 80% is the highest your best skills should be for the purpose of balance - for example, I've spent points in persuade, Occult and psychology up to 80%, and I already had 105% in my own language. Although Rain would have to give you the final word on what he wants for the sake of balance.
