Bobby Kotick appears to have set himself a personal challenge to make himself more loathed by gamers than Jack Thompson and Michael Atkinson. He's doing pretty well at it so far.

Indeed. Especially since Kotick can actually affect games, whereas Thompson and Atkinson can only moan and *****.

No way! The reason Atkinson is so hated is that he DOES affect games, a LOT! He's the one and ONLY reason Australia doesn't have an R18+ rating for games. I'm serious, if he wasn't an attourney-general we would have had an R18+ rating YEARS ago, no sweat. But Kotick is in a pretty good position to fuck us all up as well, given the number of popular series this douchebag has under his company's control.

Yeah, I forgot about just how miserable he has made Australian gamers. He truly is a major dicktoucher.

If the next CoD game has subscriptions, I will never buy it. Activision is really pushing the envelope with their business tactics.

They'll probably push it as far as possible until sales start declining majorly, in which they'll abandon CoD for something new.

Everyone needs to remember that Activision is in it for the money, not for the games/people. We can expect them to continue negative moves like this until the majority stop blindly buying their products.

What kind of up-keeping and maintenance costs do they have that can possibly justify subscriptions? It's not like they run servers, they already cut those. Nor do they have sizable patches that actually add content; all the patches are bug fixers and everything else you have to pay for.
Not to mention that the game quality has declined substantially since MW. Given how unfinished MW2 felt and the lack of urgency around fixing it, I actually felt bad that I didn't pirate it. On a good note, I've bought 3 Activision games this decade; CoD 1, 2, and 4.
I'll come back when they publish something that I haven't played. Which probably means that I'm not buying their games again. Well, at least Sony and smaller PC devs are putting out new IPs.

Okay, I honestly think Activision is running down a list on how to get people to stop buying their games. They just want to see how far they can go and still make oodles of money.

I think that's what they're banking on, really. Modern Warfare 2 sold a staggering amount, so it's pretty natural that Activision will want to wring every last cent out of its fanbase. A hopelessly cynical ploy, and one that will definitely alienate its more moderate followers, but it'll still going to make a huge profit. A sensible business decision, really.

As has been said before, copious amounts of retards will still buy CoD 7, and Activision won't lose any money over it. Remember how much money people said they would lose after removing dedicated servers from MW2? Yeah, funny how that turned out.

The smart thing to do would be to wait until the release of Modern Warfare 3 to switch to the "pay to play" model. If they try this on a Treyarch developed game, they'll kill the brand. People will only pay so much to kill Nazi Zombies.
