No I wouldn't pay for it, mainly because its based on subscription. If it automatically included my own dedicated server with the service, I MIGHT consider it. But at this point the fact that they are doing it will cause me to look at competing games when its released.
Do you know how expensive a decent sized dedicated server is per month?

OT: They haven't really added anything new or innovative with this at all as far as I can see. Just a glorified social network. If they want to add dedicated servers or something similar they should run a couple of their own at launch and let other people start/rent their own.

The only thing this is really benefiting social side wise is console gamers for easier management of clans as we already have xfire and steam on PC why would we need this too?
Ya about $6/month from an honest business... thats why it was a BIG might. But I'll still be sticking with my origional plan. I have about 30 games right now where I can jump into nearly any situation and shoot at someone or have them shooting at me. There's nothing this game has to offer me really.
Well depends on players but ?.50-?.70 per slot per month is the usually. I was bring up as to point out that Activision has gone so greedy they won't want to spend that money on you. So not sure on exchange rate but yes that would probably get you a decent sized CoD server but not really for a game like Battlefield.

Do you know how much money Activision makes off of CoD? There are a lot of people who will pay a monthly fee, and there are even more pople who will just buy the game. Money is not an issue.

OT: No. I might have considered it if they were adding new things in, but it's just old things that they've taken away.
No you have just completely missed the point as I am not saying people won't get the subscription. Most people who continue to play CoD as is probably will. I was saying that Activision will not stick their hand down into their deep pockets to buy each subscriber a dedicated server or if they it is probably going to be a cold day in hell.

No it doesn't. All FPS games are instanced and on separate servers or hosts. As far as I know there is no persistent FPS game in existence. Maybe a MMOFPS but no FPS.
I meant the whole idea of levels, prestige and perks that are present in CoD. Persistent world doesn't mean seamless open world, but some degree of continuity of player character between the games.
A persistent world (PW) is a virtual world that continues to exist even after a user exits the world and that user-made changes to its state are, to some extent, permanent.[1][2] The term is frequently used in the definition of the massively multiplayer online video games and can be considered synonymous with that class of games,[3] including other narrative forms of a media franchise. If that is how you choose to see what a persistent world is in your own personaly view/definition that is fine but what I have taken is what most people consider to be a persistent world. Guild Wars isn't even considered a MMO by some because they don't have a 100% persistent non instanced world. That's for another day however.

While it is a dick move, I can see more people being less sour about it if they did something to incentivise, oh lets say reduce the price of the actual game by about £/$10.

I can see more people willing to pay for these 'premium' features if they weren't already forking out fifty quid for the game in the first place.

This might be a good idea if there wasn't going to be a new COD every year, and if COD was a dedicated quasi MMO experience. However, even saying that, the service they're offering really isn't anything new, and is being done by the competition for free. On top of that, there is already a dedicated clan and community scene established through Youtube and other social networks. Activision are essentially charging money for a social networking tool, and a tool that is offered freely with other services, which have already proven their value.

Still, I have no intention of buying MW3 at all, and am hotly anticipating BF3.

I don't play on PC so I don't know if they have it but the Stats will also show Heatmaps and what not. Something that I don't think is available now and it definitely helped improve my game back when I played TF2. So, to some it would be a welcome addition. I am sure you can get your Epeen stroke with a K/D ratio still for free, Heatmaps will just be a premium.
Yes they do already basically have heat maps on BO. They have the areas you shoot people the most and areas you die.

Doesnt CoD already provide this for free?

And I know that the Halo games do it, as do the battlefield games...

So we're charging for features that we used to provide for free now? That the competition still provide for free?

Interesting plan.

They're banking on customer bitches loyalty, which is considerable, to see this service through.

This just shows that Activision only care about money, rather than actually getting their developers to make innovative or interesting games.

So CoD: Madden 2012 is going to have a subscription system, plus DLC, plus snipers, and fully based on multiplayer?

I'm saving about 80+ dollars. Oh well, back to Skyrim excitement.

If this means I need to subscribe to an additional service for things that were already there then I'm out, sale lost.
It's a pretty disgusting practice for a game which is doing so well. They've offered in depth stats with Blops (ok, not IW in fairness), is it parties/private matches that are going to be subscription only? Something available since the start of time itself?!
They've offered these things before as part and parcel, then realised that they can make money by charging to include them, charging a subscription too, not a one off.

It's pathetic, it's a shitty move and it's childish.

I really was looking at MW3 with hope and interest, maybe it could be the true spiritual successor to CoD4 I thought. Doesn't look like it, I'll still keep an eye on it but odds are on me flipping the birdie and joining up with BF3.

My short answer is that no, I will never pay a subscription to any game, including this crap.

Slightly longer answer, COD is going down hill since IW left. Why you say. Just look at the battlefield 3 trailer, looks like the superior game, and if they dev's play the advertising right, they could bury Activition and wipe out COD. And frankly I hope they do. COD ran out of ideas a long time ago and has not been fresh since COD4. Granted there isn't much frest in the FPS genre, but COD just lather, rinse, repeat... over and over.

Looks like they're trying to get money out of the lesser experienced players, tricking them into believe that by buying this software you will improve while playing cod.

I tend to believe what the teh_ownerer once said, "You can like take a noob to like water, but you can't like make a noob drink y'know.."

With a parting word from teh_masterer, "What you must realize is that a true pwner pwns all games. If one wants to truly pwn, one must pwn in all games."

Get off the COD scene kids, there are a lot more kids out there that need to be taught what it is to truly be pwned across all platforms and all kinds of games.

Seems like the extra subscription will be used to

a) Track your statistics (lol... if anything that will encourage me NOT to get it so I won't keep getting K:D OCD)

b) Choose who you play with - could this mean dedicated servers?

c) Get strategy guides and 'exclusive' videos.

Seems like they want to make their own version of the Youtube COD video scene .... which could be doomed to fail as the Youtube COD community already has its established personalities and attitudes towards IW and Activision.

What do you guys think? Something you'd pay for? Me I'm thinking.... no, probably not.

EDIT: Having watched the video, I'm absolutely I won't be paying for this bullshit. Fuck you, KoDICK, you make enough money from us and other devs give us this stuff for free.
You know... I think that if K/D was only applied to TDM or FFA, CODs MP wouldnt be that shitty. Everyone is a fucking stat whore, Im positive the K/D ratio is the cause to all the cheap noobish tactics seen.

Also for C, I got Thunder, Fist, and others to watch, I dont need to be talked down on by what will probably be a developer telling me how to play the game, its the same fucking game as the last 4! I KNOW HOW TO FUCKING PLAY!!!

Also, I made a slight correction to your post, its in bold.

I couldn't agree more. And it doesn't help with people like Wings Of Redemption making tweets about how he won't play with fans whose K:D is under 3.

K:D ratio is the scourge of COD.

This is probably the first step in getting people to pay a subscription fee for CoD like Kotick wants. [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/101503-Kotick-Wants-Call-of-Duty-Subscriptions-Tomorrow]

If it ever comes to a subscription fee I think he'll be surprised how many people won't want to play anymore.

|Bungie.net. I don't like Halo but god is bungie.net godly.

It keeps a record of every game that has ever been played. It gives the statistics. The badges that where earned. You don't only get your stats but anyone in that games stats. I even found a way to map the locations I had died in a game I had played a week ago on Valhalla, I could find out that monkeydonut (some random dude) had killed 15 people, his best weapon was the battle rifle and he had a rampage.

AND it was all FREE.

If this was free, I'd be totally ok with getting with it.
But its not.

And everything that it "provides" is either given to you in game (your game stats) or you can just do it yourself.
Talk about map strategies? Just play a custom game with friends.
Gun strategies? Make them yourself as you play the bloody game.
Game strategies? Make them with your friends as you play.

This seems like a good way to leach the diehard CoD-fags of even more money.
I enjoy MW2, but not THAT much.
