gay had nothing to do with homosexuality when it was first created. Why should it now? natural evolution of words etc.
I'm highly enjoying this interchange!minarri said:I'm amused that someone called you out on your faulty logic, but I'm surprised that nobody realized that you identified us women as a species separate from that of men. Look I don't know what species of primates you fornicate with, but last I checked men and women both are Homo sapiens.Fluffles said:Ummm because women are the species we have sex with to make babies. Therefore we are made with the purpose to do this.NaumWolf said:how is it any different then sticking thing up chicks rumps?Fluffles said:Off subject kinda here:
I'm all for gays as long as they don't talk about anything near me.
Because although gays are becoming more accepted it still doesn't make sticking things up mens ***es normal.
We are not made with the desire to "stick things up mens rumps"
Precisely. Whenever someone uses the term 'gay' to describe anything or one in any way other than the sexual aspect, I just look down on them as an idiot.pimppeter2 said:Its not homophobia, its just being a dumbass
I agree with this guy!Samoftherocks said:I do agree with this notion, though once being called out on it if, at least, it doesn't give you pause to think that, "hey, maybe I'll offend someone someday so I should knock it off now," then the dumbass/homophobe line begins to blur, and if not checked, can result in rampant assholery.pimppeter2 said:Its not homophobia, its just being a dumbass
If you are one of the countless, nameless, faceless online gamer types then please, understand that using that word as a negative IS as insulting as calling someone "black" or "chinese" in an attempt to insult them for being lame. "Lame" is as good a word as any, and
anyone who identifies as "lame" can choke on a fat one. Agreed? Good.
Happy gaming...
EDIT: And if you are one of the countless, nameless, faceless online gamer types who DON'T CARE about the sensitivity levels of others consider these two options: A. your reaction to being called the racial/gender/sexuality-driven epithet of your claiming, and/or B. just not using it because it needlessly hurts the feelings of someone else.
Different pejoratives have different histories and therefore meanings. Pussy for example was generally used to describe anything feminine during the early modern period, though it implied the sexual. The term narrowed to mean vagina for the most part now days (oh, and cat). The term Pussy as an insult is generally meant to mean that someone is effeminate and weak (basically the ye olde view of women). The word gay became a pejorative because it meant homosexual, in the same way as "homo" or "poof". The idea being that there was something wrong with being homosexual.Spot1990 said:Same reason people use fuck as a pejorative, same reason they use dick as a pejorative. When you call someone a fuckeer, you're not saying they have sex. When you call someone a dickhead you don't actually mean they have a penis for or on their head and when you call someone a ****** you're not actually calling them gay. ****** and gay had meanings before they were used to describe homosexuals. Why is it unreasonable that they might develop new meanings. Oh yeah and when I call someone a pussy that doesn't mean I dislike vaginas.Dangerious P. Cats said:People how use 'gay' as a pejorative are presumably think that being gay has something inherently wrong with it. Otherwise why would they use it as a pejorative?
Seconded. Except I can not even beging to imagine a world in which a pirate and ninja would exchange gay jokes then kiss...Xerosch said:I have to admit that I think Yahtzee's commentary about political correctness is true. And I say this as a gay person.
