I like the idea Jack, it's usually pretty entertaining, and I really don't get why people are so reactionary against it. Why does it bother so many people, really? It's pretty fun whimsy. :)

Edit: I was thinking of doing a similar one off post for my avatar in this thread, but honestly, I can't speak for spike. Spike is way too fucking awesome for that. HE LEAKS AWESOMESAUCE. It's a real sauce, and leaking it signifies awesomeness, or so I'm told.

Interesting thread. Maybe I should get me an Avatar and try this... only, I'm not sure how. ^_^;

That was an interesting read. I might not post much in other sections then Forum Games and User Groups, but I always love to see Calumon's view on things. I say keep it up and best of luck to both you and Calumon.

...odd. It never occurred to me that Calumon would require an explanation, much less be an annoyance to people. It made sense to me the first time I saw it in action. I mean, how hard is it to read a fairly normal post, see an addendum attributed to a name ending in "-mon," notice the poster's avatar looks like a digimon/pokemon/similar creature and make the connection between the tag statement and the avatar? Seems simple enough.

Then again, having been an active roleplayer for close to a decade, maybe the idea of people speaking through multiple characters simultaneously seems more normal to me than it does to most people. Hrm.

No matter. Cute gimmick, have fun with it while it lasts.

Kinda this, essentially.

When I saw it, I thought it was a pretty neat idea, and just went with it. Even if most of Calumon's comments subscribe to the "Let's play!" train of thought, I quite like seeing an extra little bit of personality in what would otherwise be just another unmemorable point of view by a faceless forumgoer. The fact that there's even a little story to the whole concept makes in even welcome to see in any threads I might be perusing.

Sure, maybe it's just a gimmick, but I honestly look forward to seeing what Calumon has to say. I don't see why anyone would have a problem with it. Don't like it? Blissful ignorance is but a scrollbar away.

I personally don't mind it. It's not that much different than the signature bit that many other forums use in terms of its placement and general intent as a bit of flavour. If it's that much of an issue, just ignore it and move on.

I think it's adorable.
And to those who are busting a lobe over this;

I wish I had some originality. :(

I'm surprised that more people don't find this to be irritating. I mean, I have no problem with role-playing, but doing it constantly is annoying. We have a specific section of the boards for role-playing, and that is where it should stay. I mean, if we all did what you were doing everyone would get sick of it. To me it's not any less irritating just because only one person is doing it. I don't find it to be clever or entertaining. Just bothersome.

But I guess that's just my opinion.
Don't worry...I feel the exact same way. Can't stand it.

Edit: I'll add a little more. I really, really dislike it. It just doesn't appeal to me. Make your point and move on. You've said time and time again now that it really is just for the attention, and that alone makes me dislike this persona you've adopted greatly. Other than that, I really can't comment much on this anymore. I was going to say something about how stupid it is to me when I first saw it showing up, but now, I rarely ever see you comment, and if I do, I honestly skip your posts entirely.

Sorry, but thats just how it is. Keep doin' what you're doing...no matter how unnecessary it may be.

Hang on...

...so Digimon actually had personalities?
I think they had about 6 basic personalities that they plastered onto all of the characters with minor variations. At least that's how I remember the show. Though to be fair I don't remember much about it, other than that some of the Digimon looked really stupid. Like that giant bio-mechanical whale thing.

I have to admit, I've never wondered about the Calumon thing at all and have only had a very fleeting encounter with Digimon BUT I've also always found your joint posts to be quite fun plus, it almost goes without saying, Calumon is so adorable, oh yes he is!

Slash: What the hell? Messing up my solo with your Digimon s****!

Just letting you know - Kraken is pretty experienced in ditching an internet persona. Back when he first came, in literally every thread that had been done once before in the history of the Escapist he would flag up with 'use the search bar' (he wasn't the only one - there were a couple at the time) until he stopped, because a lot of people got really annoyed with it.

Which is mostly what it seems to be with this thing.

Anyway, I'll just post my views. Note that I'm not asking you to stop it, just letting you think about it.

OK. You're British, you've probably been paying at least a tiny bit of attention to the election campaign. On one side, you have David Cameron, and on the other, Gordon Brown (I'm ignoring Nick for this). David Cameron, as I see it, has airbrushed his posters, told stories, talked about his kids, and generally exposed himself non-politically, seeming to constantly avoid his paper-thin policies. Brown, on the other hand, has basically not done any of this, and told people his policies as his campaign, and they're vvery well thought out.

And Cameron was more popular.

Now let's relate this to the Calumon thing. First, we have poster X, who posts his opinions intelligently. This is my Brown. And then you have you, who, let's be honest, is just known for your 'quirk'. This makes you the Cameron.

Which one do you want to be?
Well yes, you do raise a fair point but I am going to point out a flaw in your example.

Brown has been a HORRIBLE leader.

After 3 weeks of being in Parliament, he was questioned over the missing Private Documents on trains and such, his reply was "Calm Down, I've only been in a week." Don't remind us. Also he has been accusing Cameron of Party Politics since Day One, and obviously Cameron is not going to take that standing down.

By being more in touch with the community, you are going to get a response based on that, and whilst David Cameron has been in touch with people on WebCameron and has been praised for being social on it, Gordon Brown has been more... disastrous .

He has been in touch with the community and even commented on a dear pensioner saying such a nice lady she was, before calling her a Bigot.

But as you say, I am merely posting my views, as the Election was all about opinion. I understand what your getting at, and I apologize if I may have offended you somehow in my response.

Calumon: Have a nice day, Mister!

This is one of those "I wish I'd thought of that" gimmicks.

It helps, of course, that Digimon Tamers is my favorite incarnation of the franchise (well, if they'd make a game with the gameplay of Digimon World and the story of Digimon World 2, that might be my favorite, but that game doesn't exist outside my own head), and I loved Calumon already, but hey, there are no unbiased opinions.

Sadly, I wouldn't feel right jumping on the bandwagon. The Rabbit Cube is just a wooden block, so it can't really talk even in an RP thread, and my old avatar (the kitten with the gun) was my online persona already... and there isn't really an appropriate anime or game character for my style.
