I sincerely approve of this whole notion. Probably about time it happened. We treat avatars as nothing more than an extension or a representation of ourselves, but they are necessarily the same. Thus, we have the option, and opportunity, to speak both as our representative and as ourselves! Brilliant!

EDIT:

And for the sake of continued Hilarity...

:3 : What? ... Leave a kitty faced fellow out of this... :3

I'm surprised that more people don't find this to be irritating. I mean, I have no problem with role-playing, but doing it constantly is annoying. We have a specific section of the boards for role-playing, and that is where it should stay. I mean, if we all did what you were doing everyone would get sick of it. To me it's not any less irritating just because only one person is doing it. I don't find it to be clever or entertaining. Just bothersome.

But I guess that's just my opinion.
I'm not diminishing your opinion, but it's hardly a constant role-playing thing. It's one line he puts at the bottom of his posts. Yeah, if everything was as Calumon it would be irritating, or if more people stole his shtick it would definitely be, but it's just for fun. To each, his own.

It is constant role-playing, He will always put in a line for Calumon, even in threads were doing such a thing is completley unnecessary and inappropriate. He doe sit so much that it has lost it's charm and just irritates me. If he didn't do it in every post It probably wouldn't bother me at all. But right now it seems like he feels obligated to insert Calumon into every post, regardless of whether or not the Calumon comment will actually add anything good to the thread.
I absolutely have to agree with this. When I first saw the Calumon thing I was like wtf, people get suspensions/warnings for low content posts. This guy's posts are a sentence or two long and aren't really adding anything to the thread but this Calumon thing is adding an extra line or two to the post so he skids by, even though the Calumon thing adds absolutely nothing, distracting, and completely off topic (most of the time).

That and I still see it as a bid for attention (considering how much people hate/love it I say that he has been successful in this manner). And it still makes me think of schizophrenia.

To everyone reading this: Don't you dare to copy Calumon.

This is one of those in-your-face annoying bits that tries to insulate itself from criticism through self-awareness. Like someone announcing he's going to punch you in the head before he does, in fact, punch you in the head. The warning doesn't soften the obnoxiousness, friend.
Do you know what obnoxious means?
The fourth or fifth definition was something about "desperately seeking attention/separation via contrived, uncreative, and repetitive idiocy".

People really can't be mad or surprised if this thread attracts some venom. He did draw attention to himself, unsolicited, yes?

Anyways, I only hate when people think outside the box if they're no good at it.

I gotta say that's very creative of you. Kinda wanted to do something like that myself, with my first avatar (Edgeworth), but I more just took on Edgeworth's persona rather than a dual-POV thing.

Sten: I disapprove.

Toriver: Shut up, Sten. You disapprove of everything. *Wow, I just told Sten to shut up! That's strange, to say the least.*

I'd try something like that, but Drizzt doesn't talk. He just stands there and looks menacing. Gives my posts more weight, I think.

Drizzt: *glower*

Personally, I don't see it much different than people who put "~Therumancer" or "-m" or whatever "*dash*-letter" thingamabob they do.

If everyone stated doing it, then yeah, it would get irritating, but it's just one posters shtick and it's easily ignorable.

The reason I find it to be annoying does not have to do with the number of people doing it, hence why I am still opposed to it. Just because it can be easily ignored doesn't mean it's not bothersome when it does show up.

I'm not really bothered by it and it is sort of interesting to see someone have a sort of routine that they do with every post.

The Ninja : ...HURT ME, SNAKE! HURT ME MORE!

...

Ok... I'm never going to try that myself ever again.

But aren't you RPing at the moment Kraken? Root isn't me, he's a persona I adopt when talking here.
No, because I don't consider my "online persona" to be so drastically different from the real me that it would be considered role playing. What I say on this profile are my own words, thoughts, and opinions. Just because it's the internet does not mean I'm role playing.
Mebbe, but do you think Yahtzee, AVGN, The Guy With the Glasses, Ask A Ninja, or even LRR are?
Calumon, Catkid just has a different angle, and I like it.

Like that guy who only posts in purple.

Maybe I should post in a different colour from now on.
I think there's some doing that actually. Posting all in purple.

No offense, but I generally agree with @snowplow on this. I would've said the same thing, except in "please-don't-get-mad-at-me-esteemed-moderators" diplomatic doublespeak.

For those of you who don't like me and my posts, there is the IGNORE option for every Escapist User.

Calumon: I don't mind. Not everyone likes everyone.

Using a persona in a video is different from using a persona in a forum post. Your comparison doesn't work. Besides, one of the biggest reasons I dislike this Calumon thing is because he drove it into the ground by doing it in every single post, even when it wasn't funny or entertaining. Now if the people you listed made videos just for the sake of making videos, regardless of their humor, then I wouldn't like them either. Though again the comparison is inherently flawed since they are two very different things.
