No, definitely not but that's just my opinion.
Some people find it weird that non-relatives can be that close

Really, really not. If she thinks you're a pervert then that reveals far more about her life than yours...

The times when you could innocently do things like this are unfortunately gone. I recall a friend of mine working for a kids adventure camp - the first warning they were given is 'never be in the same room on your own with a girl', not through distrust of the workers but that it's so easy for them to cry foul and almost indefensible unless they decide to tell the truth about it.

No, if what you say is true you're not a pervert, unfortunately to scandal-mongering members of society will always see it differently as it gives them purpose and Oprah Winfrey something else to get angsty about.

well you get called a pervert for looking at someone the 'wrong' way, so you probably will for that... should you? no... but that won't stop it anyway

Well, let's take a look at the instruction manual for Manliness for geeks. It says:

Looks like there's no issue here as long as it went down like that. In fact, it makes you Manly.

Unless you're getting some kind of sexual satisfaction from the act of watching them sleep, I can't see how anyone could call you a pervert. People will look at it weirdly, because a lot of people can't seem to pull their heads out of their asses, but there's nothing wrong with it.

Though your name IS Demonic Vixen. Also, post above mine, that is the prime example of the best father in existence.

ah, the Michael Jackson defence...

but in all seriousness no there is nothing wrong with what your doing humans are innately social animals and many cultures have a concept of an extended family into the wider community with older children playing the sibling role

i think it's more of a worry if children weren't allowed to form these bonds...

I think the question is not pervert, but pedophile. And no, not unless you do something with them.
This right here.

I hate how people get perversion and paedophilia mixed up. I'll gladly admit to being a pervert.

As everyone else says while it is in no way perverted to share the bed with them as long as everything remains above board.

The mother is being understandably touchy especially in this day and age where the media would have you believe a paedophile is lurking on every street.

My advice (unasked for though it is) would be to attempt to wean the kiddies off your presence at bedtime, they'll have to get used to the idea eventually anyway.

maybe not perverted, but a 19 year old sleeping in the same bed as a (near puberty) 11 year old is a bad idea overall

No. It doesn't make you a pervert.

To be honest, the perverts are the ones who immediately imply that there must be something untoward going on.

But, the perception of others is a fickle thing; And these days there's a degree of paranoia around that makes even the most harmless of things a problem.

If you want proof of this, look no further than Micheal Jackson - Now, I'm not saying anything about wether he did anything inappropriate with kids or not;

But look at what the mere accusation of it did to his life;

All the damage to his reputation that it caused - None of which had to do with what he actually did, but merely with what people suspected he did.

Granted, that's an extreme example, but think about that and you see the problem here.

If people are worried about it, you have no way of proving your innocence.
And therein lies the danger to the 'adult' in these situations...

We want to protect children, but it's easy to forget the harm caused by excessive suspicion...

Some people just think the worst of other people for stuff they would never even dream of doing. You are a victim of a dirty mind trying to justify itself.

You are not a pervert. Nor a pedophile. My 4 year old nephew used to love sleeping with me while I was camping. I set up bear traps in my mind.

Eh, technically anyone who goes against the "norm" could be called a pervert. As far as I can tell the societal norm right now is missionary position between married adults. Anything other then that is frowned upon publicly. It doesn't matter what is different; position, age, marital status, etc. Now, I'm not saying that such a belief is right or wrong but it tends to be the belief of society (at least those that speak up about such matters.)

Now my personal opinion on the issue is you did nothing wrong. Now if you ever get the feeling of wanting to do something more there may be a potential problem but as long as it is merely to comfort the children and you have no sexual inclinations there is nothing wrong with it.

As you just let us know, you had no ill will or bad intentions, so, no biggie. Just one (silly) question, do you guys sleep comfortably? kids tend to twist and jump while sleeping O_O
