It was like choosing between shit and shit.

Far Cry 2 was good but if you played Far Cry 1, 2 has absolutely no connection to 1. Then there's that awful "drive to your objective which is across the map" thingy. Then there's the "Dudes stopping you and shooting at you every 5 minutes when you're driving".

Can't say anything about Dead Space 'cause I never played it, but I gotta say Far Cry 2 isn't really a good game. Mediocre at best.

But to be honest you were better off not buying any of those games.
How can you say that when you haven't even played Dead Space?
It does say in the original post: "someone please tell me it gets better"

I assumed that he/she didn't really enjoy the game that much, therefor "You were better of not buying any of those games.

You can't be any worse off than Far Cry 2, so I think you made the good decision. I haven't played Dead Space myself, but the video's I saw of it looked utterly boring and unimaginative, with gimpy handicapped gimmicky console gameplay, so I went around it with a wide circle too.

It's something fun to mess around with and helps pass the time. I just loved the dismsmberment going from place to place and while there are some infuriating bad points there are also plenty of good points. Some aspects of the story are nice and creative, the dismsmberment is the most fun shooting I've had in a while and there are enough creative ideas to warrant a few playthroughs. Yeah I'd say it's a good game.

Not that scary mind and with severe frustration at points I feel like I'm losing my mind when I play it. But the dismsmberment is great as I've said many times, the weapons are creative, the monsters are unique, the zero gravity is well done, the story is a mix of various horror cliche's but well done. I'd say give it a chance, it's sort of like a 'baby' version of System Shock 2 or Bioshock and it works pretty well actually.

As for the choice between it or Farcry 2 I'd rather be desperatley fighting hideous alien monsters on a derelict deep space mining vessel like this:

Then in some dirty realism obsessed gritty boring wasteland pretending I was playing something else so as to have some actual fun

FarCry 2 was one of the more dissapointing games I've played, for reasons that aren't terribly important (and others have pointed out already).

I actually quite enjoyed Dead Space - it was far from the "scariest game of all time", but it was solid nonetheless. It actually irks me because it seems that EA can develop a new IP and make it pretty good to boot.

As such, since I liked Dead Space and got sick of Far Cry after a few hours, my vote goes for Dead Space.

Dead space is probably the best example of how low gamers standards are today, and how few gamers spend time on other genres such as literature, or films that havent come out of hollywood in the last five years.
As a concept, Dead space has nothing to offer-its storyline is a mis-mash of sci fi and horror concepts, and rather than taking inspiration, merely plunders and sews together other peoples ides like some sort of frankenstein's monster- a corridor from Aliens here, a plot device from event horizon there, all washed down with a bunch of monsters from Geiger's hand-me-down box. The story has nothing to say, is devoid of any kind of thesis, and characters are two dimensional plot devices, and the whole thing smacks of a bunch of thirty year old virgins that listened to too much Slayer in their youth deciding they want to make a 'deathly, scary game. Raaaa'
This lack of imagination runs into the gameplay- boiling down to 'go here, press this button/pick up maguffin, kill long limbed scary things in poorly lit corridor'
Its not even a survival horror. To qualify as a SURVIVAL horror you need a sense of helplesness, claustriphobia, and the increasing tension being stalked and hunted brings. High tech weaponary and power armour do little to make you feel scared, and the monsters are easy meat in a fight.
Worthless pile of crap for people that don't know any better- ditch it and grab Far Cry - it has its own flaws, but at least its truly ambitious.

I played Farcry 2 wasn't the best game I've ever played. Dead Space however kept me interested. I found that it reached it's peak when you run out of ammo and a necromorph jumps out of the wall next to you.

A very solid horror game. However, it simply can't compare to the first Condemned. Matter of fact, every horror game seems like a slight disappointment after playing Condemned.
I really don't know what people see in Condemned. When I played it I was like "meh", it's basically a crime story with an obscure serial killer supposedly somewhere around, who mostly seems to ignore you, and a city full of bums that wave broken bottles and say "AMA FUCK YOU UP". It was a bit eerie at times, but can't say it scared me. The sequel was significantly better though. Until it turned sci-fi on you at least.

Dead Space is an excellent survival horror game. It will terrify you AND has a high cool factor with all the clever puzzles and the vacuum scenes. It does have a pace of its own, which might make you bored at first if you are a Korean E-sport player or have ADHD, but I really can't think of any other reason not to recommend it.

Over rated.

Not a BAD game but certainly not a very good one either.

You can have fun with it, but just don't go getting hitched.

I agree. Both dead space and Far Cry 2 received pretty good reviews and I have no idea why. Far Cry 2 was BORING! The only game I've ever played more boring than it was the original Ghost Busters on the NES.

Dead Space wasn't the right kind of scary. It just had jump scares which I don't like as much as putting me into a creepy atmosphere and weirding me out. The controls felt very "heavy" if you know what i mean, and it just really wasn't that great of a game either.
