Can the phrase "so bad it's good" really apply to a game?

lol, really? Of so many games you went with Gears of War and Bulletstorm? Yeah, that makes sense.

OT: Vampire Rain, the game is horrible in every way but you end up laughing because of the way that the game works, the player has guns but it takes an entire clip to kill one enemy that kills you with one hit, and you cant run away from them because they are faster.

Basicly if anyone sees you then you are fucked.

Wacky Wheels. BEst Example, stolen idea, not made any good, terrible graphics (even for the time)But we had a lot of fun with it.
Same for Redneck Rampage or Postal1 and the terrible Postal 2 addon (well Postal 2 did it on purpose and still is an artistic masterpiece)

One of my favorite games is dynasty warriors 3 , not because of the repetitive combat, but because it's so poorly translated and acted that it's hilarious.

I can't speak about Bulletstorm, but Gears is nowhere close to being glitchy. Maybe your 360 is on the fritz, or maybe you're the one who's "so fucking stupid" instead of Epic and you tried to run the game in a toaster or something. I don't know. But I do know that you have not accurately described the game here at all.

Carmageddon!I mean really it had bad physics, cars didn't break up properly, you frequently got stuck, jumping in the air resulted in coming down in a weird bit in the map you didn't want to.It just had so many things going against it and it was so god damn fun because of that.

Yeah, having played Gears 1 & 2, and Bulletstorm... IDK what the fuck he is talking about. Tech wise, I havent had any problem. Yeah, the stories of those games isnt exactly top notch, but they are still good games.

If the so-bad-its-good label is applied to the games aesthetics, then yes. But for actual gampeplay, it would have to be full of hilarious glitches.

Big rigs over the road racing.

That game looks suspiciously fun to muck about with, purely because it is so crap.
Ninja'd

Also, the Skate series. It actually really good, but there are so many glitches that add on to the fun.

No. Bad mechanics kill all possible enjoyment of playing a game for me. Sure, I can reference the game and get laughs from it, but I'm not going to play it if I don't like the gameplay.

Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen's gameplay was so terribly coded, hackneyed and ill designed that it is comical. But it had a great story. And its gameplay, despite being incredibly sub par, was at least functional and satisfying in some aspects.(I love that slurping sound effect when you suck someone's blood.)
I read that last sentence so effin wrong...But you're right I start playing it every 2-3 years and give up after the first boss then go on to read the story online :D.

As far as gameplay goes, no. Unless it involves silly glitches that either add humor (GTAIV) or somehow improve the game (SSB: Melee) then if the game plays like crap, then its pretty bad. However, a game's writing, setting, characters, or whatever can be cheesy or campy enough to offset being shallow or just badly done if you are into that sort of thing. Though, on the flip side, I can think of a few games that weren't especially fun to play but had a compelling story/scenario that let me enjoy it. Shenmue was this way for me.

Katamari Damacy, for example. The game itself, as a ball rolling pick-stuff-up simulator, is technically competent. However, the story and setting are utterly incomprehensible and goes completely beyond the pale of just "weird". But it works, because the game is completely shameless in its refuge and manages to remain charming despite it alien-ness.

I think Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams falls into this label. With characters who make the same three or four poses for every line of dialogue, a co-op mode advertised on the back of the box as an unlockable extra because they didn't finish making it, puzzles built around obstacles that any real human could simply walk past (see my contribution to Insurmountable Waist High Fence for details), and the line "Prepare the trees. We ride!" the most fun you'll have is at the game's expense.

However, these things can't be played alone. I need a friend to share these experiences with me and keep me going, so that I feel like I'm building precious memories instead of just wasting my life.
