The guy got a reduced sentence for eating his mother, who he murdered? And the justification for it was that "he was hungry"?

Maybe we should start applying the death penalty to idiot judges too.

Hang on, that fraudster who scammed billions... He got 150 years for his crimes. He will die long before his sentence is due to end. This guy stole money you have to remember.

How in the name of Christ can this guy get one tenth of his sentence for murdering his mother and eating her?
Because we live in america.

You don't understand the love russians have for their wodka. I'm fairly certain the presiding judge "totally got it" when the drunk said he only did it cause he was hungry and thirsty.

...Wow. Just wow. That's sick. And he only got 15 years? I'm sorry but 'I was hungry' is never a good excuse. Especially for a gambling addicted drunk. But then again, nothing really surprises me anymore. God this world's gone to hell...

That's bullshat.

Here's how it is

"Man murders his own mother for not giving him her pension money for booze. He then proceeds to eat her because he is hungry and lost all of his money to gambling and beer".

That earns a reduced sentence. Christ what has the world come too?
Not about what happened, it is about what you can prove in court.

What is this? Leningrad, 1941-44??

On a more serious note, has anyone noticed how many cannibalism cases are concentrated in Eastern Europe and Japan compared to many other places? There's got to be some culturally anthropological reason for this.

Wow..my opinion of russians will never improve after reading articles such as these.

He should've gotten the death penalty. So what if he wasn't a real canibal? He was a drunk gambling thief and a mother-killing shameless canibal, that's FAR worse!

Sheesh..this thing just made me feel sick..
*sigh* as Boney M said "Oh, those Russians!"

That's shitty. I frankly can't believe that the standard punishment for murder and cannibalism is a mere 15 years.

The fact that he killed and robbed her should be the deciding factor here. Even though eating her is sick...she's dead, and can no longer be victimized any further. I don't think the consumption of his mother should have even been allowed in court except for maybe proving his character, but then again it could have helped him plea insanity. If I was the prosecuter I wouldn't have even brought it up at all.

Does anyone know if there are actual prosecution worthy laws against cannabilism? Or is it just a severly rejected taboo of modern society? I know there are still places where cannabilsm is practiced by witch doctors as a curtural ritual.

They have western fast food chains all over the world. The guy could have begged on the streets for a few rubles & ordered something off the dollar menu. "Starving" only works as an excuse if you live in the sesert, a winter wasteland, or are stuck on an uninhabited island with a broken boat.
