I bought The Legend of Zelda (NES) over the Wii shop. It was the most gigantic piece of fail I have ever bothered with. I wasn't expecting it to be a masterpiece but it was beyond awful. Thankfully the series saved itself with A Link to the Past and never looked back.

Mirror's Edge. I was unsure at first. A First Person parkour game seemed like a horrible idea. I played the demo and thought it was great. I played the full game beyond the demo, and realized that I was right the first time around. It introduced new levels of suck to the suck spectrum.
Parkour is the only reason I got the game.

Final Fantasy 12...seriously, what the fuck,Square-Enix!
Final Fantasy 12 was brilliant, and I will challenge to fisticuffs anyone who says otherwise.

My game: Grandia Xtreme -> worst entry in an otherwise great series.

I've never played FF12, but I challenge you to fisticuffs

Time crisis 4 for PS3
True that. The Guncon played terribly with the fps levels, didn't support lefty's, forced me to put on thous stupid IR lasers and then remove them when your done, muti-screen fights were frustrating if you didn't know you could use one of the Guncon's analog sticks, you had enough weapons to make Rambo turn tail and run yet you can be stopped by a locked door, the characters and story were all boring, and ads promoted graphics yet the arcade version make me consider this being on Wii. This is coming from someone who actually liked the other Time Crisis's.

Alot of games throw me curveballs that make me hate it. Notably Disgaea.
Other than that...
Modern Warfare 2, though it was just multiplayer that turned me off.

Hmm... Probably Knights of the Old Republic. It just kinda bored me. I was expecting a total mind-blowing experience, but it was just... meh.

Spore, the creature creator is awesome, the cell stage is cool, the creature stage is boring, the tribal stage is abc easy, the civilisation stage is dumb, the space stage is stupid.
The original black and white demonstrations suggested more stages, a better evolution system etc. The actual game was crippled by drm, refused to work properly until eventually patched, froze on the tribal stage, was massivly dumbed down and... and.... aaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! I hate this game! But I love the creature creator.
The good news is that I bought the game legally when it came out, traded it in, then downloaded a pirate copy more recently so I can still use my account but have less restrictions.

Yeah, me too. Everyone I knew was telling me how great it was but I just couldn't get into it.

GTA4. Yeah I said it.
Back that up, I only got it because it was the only good game that came out near my birthday. Once I started playing Saints Row 2 it was never the same for me again

Kingdom Hearts 2. Thought it was gold for a couple of years, actually, before I realized that the story was just total garbage compared with the first game, the gameplay was shallow, un-engaging, and poorly balanced, and that it was PROBABLY the Disney end of the collaboration that actually made the first one good rather than the Square end. Now I wish they'd just stop.

Didn't see an ad for it, but did extensive research into the game before buying. Oblivion. Should have read a gamefaq guide to realise how shite the levelling system was.

Considering my older brother bought it for me for about $2, I can't complain...
I didn't think it was that bad for a 2003 game.

My friend is letting me borrow it/ forcing me to have it until I beat it. But quite frankly, I would rather play through ME2 for the third time than try to get through KoTOR. I got better things to do... It's not bad, but... I've got games that are better.

Oddly enough, it was a Yugioh Game for the Gamecube (back when I was still in middle school). I thought it would be just like the card game but with the console graphics. It had little to do with the card game and was a total waste of time.

Either that or Soul Calibur IV. I wasn't impressed with III, but it was still fun to play. IV was just awful. I miss the days of Soul Calibur II and earlier. While I'm at it, I'll throw in Soul Calibur Legends (what the hell were you thinking Namco?)
This. And Red Faction: Guerilla. SC IV was great, until played for more than, say, an hour. After getting to a certain point, the game would take its difficulty level up about a bazillion notches and make it nigh impossible to beat. Heck, it was even discovered that Starfighter of whatever his name is, they guy on the star destroyer on stage like 7 in the Arcade mode, had a 99.9% block rate (as opposed to the 90% at the hardest difficulty) and was able to predict your moves as you pressed the buttons. After reading that, everything made sense. Sure, the guy is beatable, but I'd rather not play i and be happy than die a bunch and be angry and stressed.

And RF:G was also almost good. Pretty hard, until I got to the level where you have to drive around a large field dodging artillery lock-ons. There was no way to beat that mission. I would go as fast as I could, and I'd get blown up. I'd go a tad slower and dodge the rocks and stuff, and get blown up. It's a good thing I only rented it.

I thought this thread was going to be about games you played in the past and enjoyed, then tried them again and your tastes have changed/games have gotten so much better that the game is just shit by today's standards. < This has happened to me a lot lately as I've tried games I used to really like.

Far Cry 2, because it was incredibly unbalanced and buggy.

GTA IV, it was too boring/realistic, too much Roman and far too many other problems to even name.
