Cars 2 could be Pixar's first flop.

I thought Cars was a good movie, and I'm not even into automobiles. It's certainly not Pixar's best, but I thought it was better than some of their films, like Monsters Inc. and Finding Nemo.

*dodges tomatoes*

Wait, I thought those were good films too! I just felt Cars was better, that's all.
Just so you know, that WASN'T a tomato. :) And, personally, I thought Monster's Inc. was better than Cars. Just my not so humble two cents.

I think cars 2 will make up for the complete meh that the first one was. And pixar isn't selling out I would say their one of the few movie makers out there that still have passion in their work.

I loved the first Cars, but I am skeptical about the sequel. It is no secret that Cars made a shit ton more money off merchandise than the actual film, so I am cautiously optimistic about this one.

But hey, 2013 is Monsters Inc 2, and Brave (2012) sounds interesting, so things will balance out!

Big name kids movies like Cars 2 dont flop often, and I doubt this one will. It will be popular cause kids like it and want to go see it. Thats how a lot of kids movies are. Otherwise they would flop.

Cars was the WORST pixar movie ever made. Even as a dumb kid, I knew exactly what would happen. Bloody 'ell

But Disney is a marketing genius like Nintendo so everyone and their mother and their father will be seeing it

While Cars was probably the worst Pixar movie in my opinion, it was still pretty good. That really says something about the quality of films they produce I think.

I'm sure I will see it, but wait until its out on DVD.
This. Cars was hardly fantastic - I liked it better when it was called Doc Hollywood - but when the worst movie a studio has made is still decent, that's a hell of a track record. I don't think Cars 2 will be amazing, but I don't think it'll be the shark-jumping moment for Pixar. I don't think that will happen for at least another ten years, although I hope it never will.

I think Cars was all right. I mean, it's in my opinion the weakest of all the Pixar films, but then again, it's made for kids. I mean the other films are made for kids too, at least on a surface level with the colourful animation style, but there's usually certain characters or underlining themes that relate more to adults than kids in Pixar movies. Cars seems to be the only entirely kid oriented movie. That doesn't make it bad, in fact for the target age group it's almost perfect.

Though yeah, if they were to make a sequel to one of the franchises, why this one? Well, most of the Pixar films are kind of standalone. There's not much room for sequels in franchises like Monsters Inc, Up or Ratatouille, they all ended too well. Plenty more stories could come out of the Incredibes universe, but not really from the Incredibles themselves. They would either have to re-tread the personal issues from the first film, which would suck, or make the characters older and get some new age issues in. Only problem with that is Dash would turn the same age as Violet, Violet would turn into a University/college student which really wouldn't be relate-able for most of the target audience, and what are you going to do with Bob? Make him go through another mid-life crisis?

Cars is pretty much the only sequel-able title there, and yeah it probably won't be great, at least in comparison to other Pixar movies. But hey! At least it'll still be infinitely better than Shrek 5 or whatever it's called. =D

Then you have no soul. Or you just happen to have different tastes. But I like the over dramatic first statement better.

Puss In Boots. Yep, Dreamwork's whore franchise is getting an illegitimate bastard spinoff.
But Kung Fu Panda 2 still looks cool.

Totally unrelated, but yeah Dreamwork's has always been an up and down studio for me. They have some really, REALLY good movies, but they won't stop milking the Shrek cow.

Cars indeed was Pixar's worst critically acclaimed film (86% on Rotten Tomatoes), but by an exceedingly large margin it has made them the most money.

Conversely, Up has been regarded alongside Toy Story and Finding Nemo as their best, but because of how little associated merchandise the released alongside it, their stock price fell when the movie came out.

It wasn't that bad. It was their weakest, yeah, but it wasn't really bad.

Maybe this time they'll learn from their mistakes.

Well not counting merchandise I believe it was there lowest grossing recent movie...so I guess maybe a flop my pixar standards?

I believe both toy story and Bugs life grossed less then it but those were the early years...

Cars 2 only exists so more merchandise can be made. The toys sell extremely well, so the next step to take is to make a sequel and introduce new characters to make new toys out of. The other Pixar movies are as easily exploitable in the toy market, not even Toy Story.

I'm not looking very forward to this movie either.

Cars 2 won't flop. This site is generally young, but you are still not as young as the target audience. I have a two year old. He loves Cars. He has a Cars bed, he has a Cars kid couch, he has toys, he has clothes. All his little buddies all love Cars...

Two year-olds don't have attention spans but he is still stoked for Cars 2. It will make a killing in merchandise and Box Office.

And on a personal note, maybe it's because I'm a bit older (30+), but Cars is far better than Up, Wall-E, Ratatouille (which was pure drivel) and is on par with Monsters and Incredibles. I'm not expecting the sequel to be even near as great, but I enjoy the original (even after watching it 100 times).

Actually, maybe that's my bias. Up and Toy Story trilogy really start to stink after viewing number 75. Incredibles and Monsters a little bit after that, but Cars and Finding Nemo hold up well (and the 1st and 3rd Ice Ages....2nd ones stinks).
