It's called Animation Age Ghetto. [http://www.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/AnimationAgeGhetto]

I usually get it with comic books... After which I brandish The Sandman, Hellblazer, Hellboy, Transmetropolitan and Watchmen.

I don't think so. Nowadays there are so many cartoons made specifically for adults (South Park, Family Guy, etc.) that I don't think many people feel that way.

And that reminds me, I was watching Invader Zim today and good God, I can't believe they ever showed that on Nick! I mean, it's hilarious now, but how the hell could they show that to children?

Pretty much everyone. My best friend will only watch an anime with me if it has lots of blood and violence, which is annoying as there are so many Studio Ghibli films I think he'd enjoy if I could get him to watch them.

Like everyone. In America, at least; not sure what country you're in. But here, we grew up with Loony Tunes: great cartoons, but pointless ones.

I actually told someone that Up makes everyone cry, and her response was, "Really? Isn't it a cartoon?"

Yeah. It's a stupid, ignorant, horrible mentality, but it is more than alive and well.

I honestly don't even refer to anime as cartoons, I feel it's a completely different form of entertainment. Animation, yes. Cartoon? No, but that's my opinion.

My dad said stuff like this, but then I asked who Beavis & Butthead, Simpsons, Family Guy, South Park, and Ren & Stimpy were made for. He no longer bugs me, he loves Family Guy and Simpsons. Also, he denies it now, but he introduced Beavis & Butthead into mine and my sister's life. I don't still watch it, but I guess I would if they would make new episodes.

Hell no! Just a few months ago I went back and watched one of the best cartoons ever, Megas XLR, and it's still as awesome and funny as I remember it being. I'm also watching though Jackie Chan Adventures again, and it's still fun to watch. I'm 17, and cartoons STILL kick ass.

I would show them Higurashi no Naku Koro ni.
That cartoon is definatly 100% fun for all the family ;)
I still can't find where to find it, and I badly want to watch it from the forumists telling me how awesome it was.

OT: People at my school tend to think so, until I convince them family guy is a cartoon.

Yes I have. I then move on with my life. Just like when my parents tell me to get a haircut.

My dad's wife(remarried) does this all the time. It's actually to the point were she'll call something like Avatar cartoons, and hate it for being animated.
Sometimes things are just better animated. For example, The Simpsons I am sure has been running as long as it has because it is animated.

My mum used to think this, until I showed her Death Note, instantly hooked she was.
In no way should that be shown to kids. That anime is messed up.

Depends where you live. In America it's clear that some cartoons (South Park for example) are just not meant for kids.

Yeah, I've encountered people like it before. Pretty much always in relation to when they've seen me watching anime though as I haven't encountered anyone that has said cartoons are for kids due to every one I know watching The Simpsons, Futurama, Family Guy etc. If they're being particularly moronic about it than I provide them with a few series to watch to see if I can change their views, but I don't let it get to me. There are far more things worth getting angry over than ignorant comments about what I watch being for children.

Yes, I have met naive people like that but, obviously they havent seen any of the awesome anime's like Afro Samurai or Elfen Lied so I just ignore them.

I know of many people who believe this. They CLEARLY -cracks knuckles- have never encountered a furry before.

Some of my class mates used to, but after they saw the "stonking great tits" in Bleach they suddenly changed their mind. (Horny little pricks that they are)

I actually did that once.
Did you... did you warn them beforehand?
'Cause I'm having a hard time thinking of people I hate enough to drop that show on without any sort of prior mental preparation.

Oh yeah. But that was before I showed my family The End of Evangelion.

Sigh... Good times.
What did your family do to you to make you hate them so much?
