Ohhh I can't believe people hated that guy, how can you nót love him?!

Anyway, I didn't hate Moira as much as everyone seems to do. Heck I quite liked her, sure her voice was pretty annoying, but she knew some emmm interesting facts.

Elika from the new Prince of Persia. I thought she made an excellent travelling companion for the game but other people saw her as annoying.

Every character in Lucky Star...
Is that supposed to mean you hate them or like them? Because people who watch the show like them... which shoots down your post if you like them. Your post is of the opposite spirit of the thread if you hate them.
The threads asks, what characters do I like, I posted some characters.

I think something might be wrong with me. I'm quite posibly the only competant person I've seen who enjoys that show. When I tell people I've seen all of it and enjoyed it, they insult me...
What planet do you live on?! A lot of us who watch anime like Lucky Star (though by no means all of us). A lot of those guys wish they could have a girlfriend so incredibly devoted to video games/anime (though admittedly not me. [small]I'd rather have Yuki Nagato. I'm sad, I know[/small]). You have access to the internet, you don't even have to find anyone in real life who likes that show. We're already commenting on the videos.
Me and some aquantences were talking about TV on a ride home. I told them I was currently waching Lucky Star and the name alone made them giggle. They decided to wach the first episode and the word ****** was tossed around a lot the next day...
You're acquaintances are probably geared towards hulking muscle men like from Gears of War then and look down on anything that they see as not masculine. They have no taste.
I enjoy lifting weights and grunting just as much as any masculan, manly man but I guess I'm the only one with an unnatural obsession with schoolgirls (priticularly Kagami)....
Watching the show doesn't make you any less masculine and that entire line of thought is irrelevant, really. Also, Kagami is win (and Tsukasa would make an adorable plushie). I like my occasional fix of Ninja Gaiden, but I also like cute things and I'm proud of it. Now if only I could have a pet...

I've had so many arguements with my boyfriend over Elika, I think she's great. I think she fits into the game well and the relationship between the characters was believable and funny.

Navi. Yes Navi you heard me right. I like Navi.

Now there's truly a character that everyone but me hates.
Hey yeah, I liked Navi. I missed her in Majora's Mask. It like, "yeah, I get a fairy, but she's not Navi...."

I'm the only one who loved Yuffie and Cait Sith :(
Well I liked Yuffie :(
What's not to like?
Exactly! So she stole a bit of materia, I'm no angel either! :p
It's not like she killed anyone- at least she wasn't just a useless sidekick! Anyone who has a problem with Yuffie is just jealous because she's hot, gets to hang around the emo boys/vampires (because that's what the kids are into these days ;D ) and has a massive- ...lost my train of thought.

There have also been characters I and other people like, who seem to draw excessive amounts of hate from some others.

Speak against her, and I will hurt you*.
Perhaps if she didn't make worse decisions than the rest of the brain-dead cast. Or if she didn't have annoying emotional problems that you had to address. Or if she was better than Raine at melee combat.
I'll take the realistic emotional problems over an actual straight-up "happy and friendly all the time" personality. Watching her like that was frustrating, but watching her grow out of it was rewarding.

As for combat...two words: Para Ball. And Stardust Cross, Grand Chariot, Ray Satellite, Life Thief, and Spirit Thief. How were you using her??
Yea, I'm a bit confused myself. How was Raine good at melee combat? Magic users like her and Genis from Symphonia are pathetic melee fighters. In the tournament, neither one of them can hold their own very well in a one on one fight. But a hybrid magic/melee person, while not great at melee, can at least fight alone if they don't have two to three other characters holding the bad guys off.

IMO, the first episode is pretty boring. I showed it to a high school club and just automatically showed them the second episode instead.

Sure, Shinji from Neon Genesis

Sure I don't like him either, but the pure amount of hate he gets is abnormal. Some say he's a coward and a weakling and that's true to an extent.... but he's a 14 year old nerd for pete's sake. He's not macho-rambo, bring-em-on super boy. He's just an average young teenager, shyer and more emotionally sensitive than most. Yes he breaks down - but after all the crap he goes through many would too. Shinji doesn't fit the standard "hero boy" mould that most anime and manga try to cram down your throat, and for that, I like him as a character.

95% of all manga and anime is pure and utter garbage. Cliche, run of the mill dross that you can predict miles away. Hey guess what, you know Naruto? Think he dies at ANY point in the manga? Because if you do you're an idiot. Naruto is NOT going to die in the manga NAMED after him for kids and teenagers. In BLEACH, Ichigo is NOT going to die. Naruto and Bleach lack any tension at all, because it's so painfully predictable. Every time either is in an impossible spot, Naruto will pull more stamina/chakra out of his ass and Ichigo will pull another power jump out of his rear-end. Or someone will come and save them, or the enemy will "have to go away for a while". Both.....are.....so......boring.

At least with NGE, characters DIED, protagonists could turn into antagonists, almost everyone was emotionally screwed up and although it was predictable and run of the mill for the first half of the anime, it quickly took a turn down dark and weird street and was all the better for it. The movie was a complete mind-screw too. Which was refreshing.

But this isn't a rant on how bad most anime and manga is, it's a rant on which characters I want to defend. So in no particular order:

Otacon from MGS - because he might be a whiner, but he's a computer scientist. Not grim soldier guy.

I'm not sure if Zarniwoop was hated very much in HHGTTG, mostly because he was in there for about all of 2 chapters, but he's portrayed as a villian, when in fact he's just trying to get to the truth.

Oh and again, a lot of people hate him, but Bernard Marx from Brave New World. Oh.... hm. Yeah I don't like him much either. So forget about him. Some seem to hate Mond a lot too, but I thought he was, by far, the most sane, intelligent and likeable character in that whole book.
Amen in regards to Shinji.
He sees his mother die in front of him at the age of five and shortly after that, his father abandons him.
Something like that is bond to screw up anybody. Same goes for Asuka.

Baird from Gears of War. He's the only person in the game who is 'normal' yet everyone hates him.
I like him more than the rest of the cast. He's the only one who isn't a grunty meathead. That is, unless we're counting the abysmal Gears of War 2, in which the 5 minutes that he's in the game, he doesn't say much.
