Rosh Penin from Jedi Academy gets my vote. It's like they took everything that was annoying about Anakin from the prequels and cranked it up to eleven. You can tell just by LOOKING at him that he's a whiny *****:
Now if you'll excuse me, I have the sudden urge to strangle something.
I was gonna say Kratos (post God of War 1), but you're right, there's not a character in gaming that can hold a candle to Rosh when it comes to hateablility. I love the game, played it a million time, the only problem I have with it is that you get the evil ending for killing him :-/
I can't think of any one character who disgraces gaming as a whole, though I can think of many characters a game could do without though, or at least in need of personality transplants. First thought is Travis Touchdown, I never played very far through No More Heroes because I bored of it quickly but Travis seems to have few redeeming characteristics, he doesn't seem like a likable guy, I didn't find him all that funny and the only reason the events of the game happen is because he bought a light saber and thought murdering strangers seemed like a fun pastime.
"Likewise, Tidus from Final Fantasy X is very popular in Japan, but in the west he's a divisive figure, mostly because he looks exactly like actress Meg Ryan. And because he spends most of the game whining, which is only made worse by James Arnold Taylor's over-the-top delivery."
It's actually pretty weird, but I don't understand why everyone hates tingle. I used to not care much for him but then I played Tingle's rosy ruppeeland and now I'm actually his fan.
Well, I'll go ahead and say Duke Nukem. I know that it's satire and intentionally over-the-top, but he's still just about everything I hate about gaming protagonists. Though I do admit that I like the fact that he isn't as bland as a lot of heroes you come across.
THEY. ARE. NOT. TROLLS.
they were asked for an opinion and they gave 1
just because you disagree with what they said, doesnt make them trolls.
guy 1"hey man, whats your favorite ice-cream flavor?"
guy 2"chocolate. whats yours?"
guy 1"rasberry."
guy 2"Fuck you you fucking troll! Why do you have to be a hater? why dont we have the same opinion?"
This is how retarded you sound right now.
OT: the guy from fable 1 who told me to eat food and drink potions.
next time the media want gamers blood they can have his.
Dude, I don't know if they're trolls or not but without backing up their opinion with any real explanation it can certainly indicate someone is trolling.
its their buisiness if they want it short and sweet. i didnt go on a rant about how terrible my selected character is. as i said the OP asked their opinion on the most disgraceful game character and they gave 1. they didnt try to force their opinion down my throat or explain why we are all stupid for our own beliefs did they?
Yes they didn't, but putting down and reducing an entire franchise and an entire genre like that without any explanation as to why is a very good way of trolling even without insulting people.
Wasn't just a dig at a genre which would be bad enough, It was worse than that, it was putting down an entire medium which is obviously completely ignorant. It's like saying "All characters in comics suck. They're all so annoying and unoriginal." -_-
Anyway, back on topic:
As much as I love Uncharted, everything that has been said about Nathan Drake is too true. He's just far too perfect which makes him a bad character. In a fairly story-based game like Uncharted, it's pretty unnacceptable to have such a two-dimensional character as the protagonist.
On the other hand, people dissing "Nintendo characters" as a whole are pretty dense. Would you really want them to bring all the gameplay to a halt so they can develop Kirby as an interesting character? Or flesh out Yoshi's personality through cutscenes? No, it would be completely unneccessary.
I believe you're looking for "Ayumi". This is what you get when you graft anime-style fanservice, cranked up to beyond unfathomable, onto the absolutely most selfish, irresponsible, too-dumb-to-live, and self-righteous type of western "action girl".

Now I've got this mental image of Kirby going "confession time..." while overdramatic music plays in the background. Of course, Yoshi internal monologues would be hilarious, considering the only word he knows how to say is his name

I don't mind the whole "surived the underdark" thing. That doesn't seem to shocking. However, need I go over some of the stuff that goes on in Menzoberranzan? He would have been more interisting to me were he to suffer from insanity of some kind. But that is just my take on the character. Also, I really hate Chaotic Good characters. But then again, I follow a more LG-LN path.
I know this was a few pages ago but wanted to respond. Yeah, Drizzt is an awful piece of characterization and cliched cash-in and self-insert. You can't fault R.A. Salvatore completely for this, though, considering the primary characters of Forgotten Realms are all Marty Stus, Mary Sues, and self-inserts: Elminster is a self-insert of Ed Greenwood, and Greenwood's admitted as much on more than one occasion); Halaster's a self-insert of...oh hell, I can't remember his name, the other major designer; Midnight (Mystra), Cyric, Adon, and Kelemvor were self-inserts of playtesters' characters (if I remember my FR metaplot correctly); and the Seven Sisters were collectively Mary Sue-tastic, including Qilue, which brings me to...
The fact there are many other drow characters of higher quality (even if that quality is "mediocre") than Drizzt in the setting, especially the evil ones. The War of the Spider Queen series, at least what I've read of it, was fantastic. Drow should be evil, especially when they're protagonists -- that's what the race is for, and it's entirely possible to construct a good story with evil protagonists. Remember Viconia? pure-bred awesome even if she was Drow Lite, until R.A. Salvatore got his hands on her.
I'm running a drow D&D campaign IRL at some point this summer, and it will be glorious. I'm breaking out the Call of Cthulhu books for the insanity/derangement rules and for brain food on Underdark horrors. Minds will be fucked.
I have one player who I got dry heaving in a Mage: the Ascension game I ran a few years back during a particularly explicit description of a Nephandic ritual, and I will make him vomit. One of my other players is a regular's fiance who is a relatively sheltered conservative Christian that has a weak stomach and an anxiety disorder, who's never played with me before, and if I don't have her in a corner sobbing in the fetal position by the end of at least one game session I will have considered myself an utter failure as a DM.
I'd say one Ivy from Soul Caliber.............probably the most shameless excuss to get tits into a game.
From SC3 on...I have to say I agree. Prior to that, she was a solid character who was a beast in the hands of a skilled player, and frankly the most conservatively-dressed and -modeled female in the series save Xianghua. Once Namco gave her a hard round of sodomy with the nerfbat (while characters like Mitsurugi who were already one-button wonders in SC1 got buffed with every release) and started playing up her sex appeal in 3 onward, she just became a fanservice joke character (though at least lethal versus newbies, her stances were too linear and she telegraphed too much to stand a chance against a serious opponent).
He is without doubt the WORST character ever written. Nothing is charming about him, nothing likable, he's just made to be PERFECT. And that is your problem. You don't make a realism game and throw in a perfect character. There needs to be flaws to make the character seem vulnerable or make the bad guys seem intimidating. Not only is he "perfect" but every time he opens his mouth I just want to beat him to death with a crow bar. Its like playing as Justin Beiber, made to look handsome, embarrass other people within the same category (singers), and very very annoying!
Just looking at him is embarrassing.

Curse the Mainstream Media and its over exaggeration! I still have no verdict on whether or not he did in fact commit such crimes, but I'm not going to assume he did....however the jokes are funny XD
Lisa Garland from any Silent Hill game she's in. (And the movie, though I try to get that whole HORRIBLE film out of my head...)
All she does is complain, and complain, then try to EAT YOUR FACE...or just bleed to death. Seriously, get a head tampon or something.
Every Space Marine and every Non-space Marine in a non-space Shooter EVER!!!
Their names aren't important. Their personality is always of the "I'm actually a big pacifist, but an order's an order and blah-blah."
Let's just replace them with a create-a-character or have them be faceless anyway.
