I don't really "hate" any characters, per se. Most characters I'll either like or be neutral towards. I can't say I've ever thoroughly despised a character, though.

There is one TYPE of character that grinds my gears, though. Characters who are put into a work to appeal to the lowest common denominator. I'm talking characters that are put in there solely to bring erections to men, fangirl moments to women, and laughs to kids.

One like this sticks out in my mind.Jar Jar Binks. But there are others too. Say, for instance,Mikaela Banes from the Transformers movies. Or any part Robert Pattinson plays. Or that one chick from the Jonah Hex movie.

That's really the only thing that irks me. I'm usually an even-tempered man otherwise.
So....Megan Fox.

oh and Dr Doom is awesome, he decided not to enslave humanity when he was just pushing a button away from it because he knew that he would be bored without opposition.
That doesn't help his case to me...AT ALL. I still think he's a pretentious twit. I loved it during the "World War Hulks" mini-series how Banner made his IQ drop well below an "average" person's IQ. He couldn't even add 2+2, it was epic.

Chad/'Numbuh 274' of Codename: Kids Next Door.

In earlier seasons, he was a cocky and arrogent, yet heroic and provably clever hero that's essentially worshiped by a good amount of the KND, yeah that's actually fine, if perhaps Mary Sue-ish.

Later season, Chad betrays the KND and tried (though failed) to hurl Moonbase into the sun, ueah, probubly fair enough, if you're gonna have him devert to the bad side, the given fact he's told he has to be decommissioned after reaching 13 prompting him to betray the KND might be decent enough motive to give a newly formed villian.

But here's where Chad irks me so much that if I ever met they guy in real life, I wouldn't hesitate to punch him in the stomach repeatingly and hand him over to the KND regardless if what he tries to say to me;

In Op: TREATY, he starts trying to kill Nigel 1 moment, then pleads his innocence, saying he was helping the KND all along, despite several episodes showing the contrary. And he claims he tried to hurl Moonbase to the sun so he could stop Cree from doing so.

Really, Chad? what made you think hurling Moonbase into the sun yourself as a more suitable alternative then, say, warning the KND what Cree was going to do, or even stopping Cree yourself?

And how the heck were you actually helping the KND? you not only tried to hurl Moonbase into the sun, but you tried to hurl a highly explosive 'Footbomb' at it, how do you explain that? And how do you explain disguising yourself as Numbuh 86's mom while distracting her long enough for the Teen Ninjas to steal the KND code module, try explaining that as well!

Any of you in this forum can say what you will about Chad, but he's perhaps the most definitive example of character inconsistancy I've ever seen in published media, and possibly a canon-made Mary Sue if I ever saw one.

I really hate all the characters in Jericho. I really think it's a game that would of been improved if the entire cast was silent.

Edit: I really should expand on why I hate them. Their version of "squad banter" is insulting each other nine times out of ten and this usually involves some offensive comment. The type of banter that sticks out the most is how the big muscular Mexican guy usually tells the lesbian of the group to suck his dick and things of that kind. However, if I could tolerate more of it, I'm sure I'd get some atheist comments and some racist comments (assuming they weren't already choked out by one of the cast). Considering it's a game that you can tell they tried to have people of all groups including different sexualities, races and religious beliefs, it's something that is so bad of an idea, it's mind-blowing. The only other conversation that sticks out was when the non-lesbian female character asks the main character about an imaginary friend. I know this is done to establish what kind of social group the group member falls under (god yes, we have to have someone who is disabled, just we decided to run with mentally), but it was done in such a generic and badly written way that it's like you asked a ten year old to just act creepy.

The entire script was badly written from beginning and until I gave up with the game. It was just terrible. I couldn't root for a couple of idiots who were as professional as children on a sugar rush. I couldn't care about squad members who were created to be Mexican, lesbian, schizophrenic or otherwise just because they could, and then have conversations about it just to shoe-horn the information in. I couldn't help them as they were wounded without sighing loudly to myself just because their generally horrible personalities wanted them to die or at least suffer as they remained wounded so they would shut up, however I healed them not only to progress the game on but to just shut them up from reminding me they were down.

Zeke from infamous, SHUT THE FUCK UP.

And who ever that one guy from from gears of war, bard or something, he's an annoying prick.

Dr. Doom. He's such a freaking jackass. Even when he's put in his place he still goes on about how amazing and great he really thinks he is. I wish they'd kill him off like they did Sabretooth. I'd actually be all for it to bring Sabes back to get rid of Doom...FOREVER.
Nah, they don't need to get rid of him, just change him to awesome dr, doom like this

edit: TOOT

Vaan in Final Fantasy 12. Seriously, he could be scrapped out of the game's development at the last second, and it wouldn't affect the story AT ALL.... Plus whoever did his english voice acting had zero personality and emotion.

I gotta say the one character I hated from a movie was that one guy with the glasses from Iron Man 2. I can't remember his name for my life, but I wanted to punch his smug face in >_>

Plus Wesker from resident Evil. Much I say why?

UGH! Just seeing his picture makes me want to punch him in the face!
Christ, is that a man or a woman?

From that single picture I truly can't tell. What is up with the Japanese and androgynous 12 year-olds? (Rhetorical question, I know: developers making characters to appeal to the demographic, but is the demographic really that effeminate?)

For me, I have to agree with hating primary antagonists in both manga and western comics that have these huge Xenatos gambits that are like 5-trillion steps ahead of everyone's thinking. "So seriously, you totally expected me to blow up the deathstar-doomsday-hadouken-one-wing-angel final super-attack to attain god-hood from the planet even after I slaughtered an army of R'yleh-ian cosmic horrors 200 issues back because all along it was a distraction for you to power a time machine with their souls? Really? Fucking bullshit!" Honestly, it's just a sign of the writers making it up as they go along or not being able to write shit ahead of time.

Nobody is that fucking smart - it's not believable in the least, it's just an annoying and over-used trope that signifies a bad writer.

Believe it or not, that's a dude. I didn't know either until it started talking, I wanted to call bullshit so bad when I heard the voice.

Not very many people actually read the OP it seems...

That said, my choice is Light Yagami from Death Note, he was just an all around terrible person.

Lisa Simpson. the writers seem to think she's some sort of genius messiah, when, really, she's a total idiot. Take for instance, the episode when Grandpa becomes a bullfighter. She complains because he kills bulls, and convinces him to let them out, killing thousands of people in Springfield. However, the writers see it as him making the right choice. Can someone please explain that to me?
Lisa has become like Brian from Family Guy. The writer's mouthpiece to turn a comedic show into a liberal propaganda platform, she was, like Brian, a better character when she was just a smart character, but it was far too good to last wasn't it?

As for the bullfighting thing, it was probably meant to be some karmic retribution by the bulls against humans.

Lieuntenant Carter Blake from Heavy Rain. Everything about this guy I dislike, and by some godforsaken reason there is no way for him to die in the game.
I wanted to kill that bastard.

I cannot, and I must emphasize this, stand Jarl from The Night Angel Trilogy. Something about him just got me so annoyed.

Most characters I dislike fill me with a feeling of "meh?". There are few characters I truly hate.

Carmen from Star Ship Troopers. She was annoying and overly perfect, and she was supposed to be Rico's girlfriend? And she lived but Dizzy died? Fuck that! Dizzy was awesome.

Yuna from FFX. I love the game, and although Tidus was annoying I didn't hate him. What I did hate was how utterly flawless Yuna was. Her only fault was that she cared for others to much, that's Purity Sue bullshit. This is one of the few times i'd actually like to see some genuine angst.

Alister from Dragon Age Origins. He's a whiney ***** with thin skin that needs you to hold his hand. I shouldn't enjoy playing with the emotions of a character in my party, but I love trying to piss him off. Unless i'm going for a specific ending I kick him out of the party in favor of Loghain every time.

I recently watched the Green Mile (fantastic film) and one thing that stuck with me was the character of Percy. I don't know if you've seen the movie or not (which, if you haven't, you totally should), but Percy was the most disgustingly sick and twisted character I've ever seen and while I was watching it, I genuinely hated him. I'm sure the actor is a nice person in real life and he's got skill to make me hate him like that.

So, Escapists. Have you ever actually hated a character? Not just simply found them annoying or mean, but seriously hated them?
Percy was designed to be hated. Stephen King is famous for making characters like that.

OT: I have hated characters, yes. I never really bothered to make a list, though I will say without a shadow of a doubt that I find nobody in Final Fantasy 8 appealing at all.
