I remember in the Original Super Smash Bros I was unbeatable as Kirby.
A million times yes to this statement.
Look up Isai for SSB if you want to see unbeatable.

In fact... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=urUBMrtXwyA

Park was the winner of a national tournament, he came in first place playing Fox. Isai never wins tournaments because when he plays in tournaments he constantly sandbags (kills himself) but when he plays out of tournaments he plays seriously. Pikachu was top tier, fox was 2nd tier. The rematch, Park played pikachu (Top) and Isai played Link (2nd lowest) and still won.

This actually spawned the phrase "Isai is just too good."

Why are you still reading this, go watch the video.

I'd have to say Ike or Marth. Even though they're slow and heavy, their attacks deal SO much damage. I'll have 60% health with a medium-body character and they will be instantly wiped out in one hit from either of these characters.

Good lord. That fight was just ridiculous.

Oh good, a popular Brawl thread in Escapist. There is a God. How about HAL Labs being KOd in the first round by Ubisoft?

On topic, the hardest fight I have ever fought online is against a player who loves to play as Orange Luigi. He lets you have a few hits, and then BOOM! Super Jump punch FT unfair W. He is definitely a pro. And he's impossible to KO due to his ridiculous clairvoyance. CLARIFICATION: I'm talking about a player, not a character.

And yes, Pikachu is definitely the cheapest character when handled properly. PIKA! BOOM! PIKA! BOOM! PIKA! BOOM! PIKA! BOOM! PIKA! BOOM! PIKA! BOOM! PIKA! BOOM! PIKA! BOOM! PIKA! BOOM! Die. Lose. Throw controller at TV.

Brawl is first and foremost a party game, meant to be played with friends on a casual level.
I couldn't agree more.
Don't get me wrong, I love the whole competitive gaming play style of Smash Bros, but sometimes I want to play Brawl the way it was made. As a party game, with more than one stage to play on instead of the same flat surface with no variety or platforms.
I love the mayhem caused by all the items in the game, and I have fun, win or lose.

(Not to say I don't love a good old fashioned no items beatdown.)

As far as I'm concerned pretty much anybody who talks about how some character or another is "Cheap" or "Over powered" is just a whiny brat who trying to make excuses for why they lost. I haven't encountered ANYTHING cheap in this game except for that fucking curry thing, if your opponant gets that you might as well just kill yourself and save time.

Then you have not fought against a good snake player. Snake has this miraculous ability to be able to kill you from across the map, and so the player thinks 'The safest spot must be close up next to him.' You would be wrong, snake can also kill you in the blink of an eye up close.

However, even a good Snake player pales in comparison to and half-way decent Meta Knight player.

Try to keep him away, he flies to you. Try to fight up close, his attacks are faster, stronger, and higher priority than anything you can throw at him. Finally knock him across the map, he has flight and can recover from almost ANYWHERE.

But actual broken characters; Kirby in the first, Fox in the second, MK in the third (if used right).
Right on the money. Brawl is by far the most balanced of the three (and really, none of them were TOO broken), but Meta Knight is definitely the best. All of his attacks can be used as recoveries, there is no lag with his attacks, and he's fast as hell.

I'm going to have to disagree there. The first one was the most balanced, in my opinion, but that was only due to small numbers of characters and outrageous hitstun that made even slow characters able to pull of 0-death combos.

Melee was the most suited for competitive players, though less balanced still. It still made for an interesting game, and metagame.

Brawl is completely unbalanced, and if you disagree play Ganondorf against anyone who has a clue what they are doing.

Actually I HAVE fought against a good Snake player, didn't do that badly. Yes, I lost. I don't attribute that to him being snake, though. Everyone else was snake as well.

*think of that situation* Ok, on second thought, yeah I agree. Your earlier post about Melee I also agree with, in the sense that yeah, there were good characters and characters that were simply there so they could say that you could play as them. I think Brawl is mostly like that (Sonic being one of those only there so they could brag about it) but there's not quite as many exploits you can pull off (or there wasn't last time I checked), making it a little less interesting but arguably more balanced in that respect.

I hate when my friend uses Lucas. I also have two other friends who like to use Zelda and Snake with a mine in front of Snake, Zelda behind Snake spamming fireballs, and Snake firing missiles. It's almost impossible to get close without something exploding in your face so you fly back.

It's okay though. I've mastered spitting players out under the stage with King Dedede and Kirby.

Call me crazy but Diddy Kong. In every match i've played with him in it, cpu or not, he's managed to be at least one of the last two standing.

I have characters i don't like in the game, some feel stronger than others. But none feel particularly overpowered or annoying. I've found some annoying strategies, like pikachu using thunder a lot, but there always seems to be a counter, whether it's in the way you move, or a counter attack. Even the people who tap a a lot for quick attacks can be countered with the right attack. Or this guy talking about sonic, you simply time your attack right. I think it's more a skill gap that won't let him counter hit and run tactics with sonic.

What makes me a little sad is Link, Zelda, Ganon all at the bottom tiers, giving way to the term 'Triforce of Fail'
Wow, i'm sorry you think so, because link is my absolute best character. He can pull a strong spin attack outa his ass at any time. Follow up a few quick strikes with a smash attack and your foe will have a job dodging that, what? he just dodged behind me? SPIN ATTACK! Not to mention he has the boomerang, for harassing the enemy at distance, breaking up their form and disrupting their assault. Down and a to swipe their feet and knock them down, follow that up with a spin attack and if they did anything but dodge away from you, they're getting hit. Bomb spamming works well from time to time if they try to stay away from you. Finally, link is pretty heavy and so difficult to knock around, but once he gets damaged and thrown into the air, come down on their head and put your sword in their skull with down + a. That's probably his most devastating move, i can pull it off from standing on flat ground, leaping above their defenses and landing on their head bringing the pain. I almost always play him defensively, letting my opponents come to me and counter attacking.

It all depends on how well you can play each character, but i have never met someone who can consistently beat me while i'm playing link.

Dedede or Pikachu.

Pikachu because I occasioanlly play fox and he can chaingrab fox up to 100 - 150 percent ish. With no way for me to escape.

Dedede on the same note, can chaingrab several characters for massive damage.
