i bought God of War Chains of Olympus used from gamestop yesterday and when i open it today, ITS A FAKE! the disc part of the UMD looks legit but scratched to hell! the plastic part of the UMD is all clear plastic, its too thin, and looks like some knock off made in china crap! AND IT WONT EVEN PLAY ON MY PSP! Gamestop sold me a fake! im going in first thing tomorow! OH WAIT! the guy who sold it to me! his name is on the reciept! FIRED! im going for blood! (or a legit copy of the game)
This isnt the first time they have sold me a game that doesnt work or is scratched or has coffee stains on it. and they usually give me a hard time or argue with me to get my money back and have to call in the manager.
this sux!
so make sure you check the game BEFORE you pay for it.

Gamestop is horrible. They will give you like 15 bucks for a new game then do this shit to you. I'd stop going there and try to find a good local game store (Ive got one called Reset Games and it is AWESOME. The real gaming community is there.)

Always check used games from gamestop before you buy them. I learned the hard way, like most other people.

Gamestop's policy is to check and see whether or not the first level can load. To them, that's good enough.

I don't go to gamestop anymore, it's to far away, but anytime I do buy a used game from gamecrazy, I always check the disk before leaving the store, if I deem it to mangled to play I'll either ask if they have another used copy of the same game in a better condition or for a refund so I can choose another game.

Wasn't there a story like this not long ago? Someone bought a used copy of Madden 09 and it contained a blank DVD with some horribly racist slurs written on it in permanent ink?

It is not YOUR responsibility to check games before you buy, it is the RETAILER'S responsibility to ensure you are getting what you paid for and if they fail to ensure you are getting that product, boycott their asses.

Ever since i started buying cartridges for games systems, i have always asked them to show me the item. Back in those days looking at the teeth of the cart to see it was cracked / chipped. Same as the cart shell, any cracks.
Then they bought out CD based systems, same there. Always check for scratches on 2nd hand and new items. they can always rewrap it and reseal it, what ever the company in questions MO. If they refuse, then no dice.

I'm only a Brit but I was told by an American source of mine that Gamestop opens games, puts the contents in a plastic bag behind the counter, employees can then take the new games home for up to 4 days before bringing them back in and selling them as new.
If this is true then it wouldn't surprise me if any employees had made the switch.

I use gamefly.com, their used games always work and they'll send you a new one if it doesn't work.

I dislike gamestop anyway, for three reasons.
A) The service i normally get is piss poor.
B) The "Free" Magazine is so horrid i would hesitate to use it as toilet paper even if i had none for a fear of the failure that lies with in the magazine Could ooze onto me.
C) The fact everything is opened. Even if it's new.
If the box is opened, Gimme the used price please.

Wow, That has got to suck. Down here in New Zealand. Shops sometimes sell PC games for a cheaper price WITHOUT the CD key!

I once had an operation on my left testicle. That felt better than Gamestop.

Use an online retailer, or find a local small game shop. The smaller shops may charge a little more for used copies (unlikely) but you can guarantee they wont fuck you around if its bust.

When I bought MGS4 and my PS3 at Gamestop, they sold me a "used game," but at retail price. When I got home, I opened it up and realized the manual looked as if Lassie slobbered all over it and the disc looked as if it was a toddler's play toy. Needless to say, I was pretty pissed off and brought it back to them (probably 15 mins later - the time from when I got home to grabbing a taxi to go back uptown to the gamestop was) and reamed them out.

I used to be an assistant manager in Gamestop a long time ago -- this makes me sad.

I brought Dungeon Siege 2 for PC from GAME and they didn't give me the Damned CD key.

Thank god for piracy.

this is why i buy new games from game stop, i never trust mainstream places for used games >.> i dont know why, so far i only got one used game from EBgames and thats Patapon... I was desperate for it T.T (suprise it broke after a week >.>) i go to a plce called Nexwave games, only one game so far has ripped me off it was a 5 dolalr game no suprise but they gave me a FULL refund so i trust them :p though there lighting seems to make discs seem less used than they really are >.>

The GS by me is a complete opposite. They let me return Golden Axe a day after I bought it since it sucked so bad. I got a bad 1400 card which they let me return no questions asked (and then I got those points a few months later). They always check the discs before they give them to me. And check the discs when I trade in. The employees are gamers through and through so they treat the games with some respect.

I stopped buying used games from them a long time ago. They rip people off, they give a paltry amount for a trade-in and then charge at least 4 times as much to buy it used.

I attempted to trade in DMC 4 a while back and they offered me 8$(around there, it was a while ago) (the condition was good) and on the shelf the game was being priced used for ~30$.

don't buy used games, the company who makes the games do NOT make money from people buying used games ONLY eb games or gamestop makes money from it. I only buy new games from them.
