Honestly, I expect this kind of bullshit from humans in general.
Needless to say, kicking her off the team is complete bullshit. Yes, she refused to do what her coach told her to but on ethical grounds. It would be like kicking someone off a team because they're pro-life or some such waste of time.
This entire court case is also bullshit. She has every right to be on the team and shouldn't be kicked off because her beliefs are different from that of her coach's. I thought even Texas was past the point where a Christian couldn't forbid a Jew to play on their soccer team. Apparently not. And then making her cover everything just makes them look like money-grabbing Scrooge McDucks.
Not to mention that her rapist pled guilty, if I'm remembering correctly. HE PLED GUILTY TO RAPE! SHOULDN'T THAT SHOW CLEAR NEED FOR A JAIL SENTENCE IF NOT CASTRATION?
There's my rant.
He plead guilty to Assault, which is a misdemeanor. Read the article dude.
Wasn't sure if I remembered that correctly. Thanks for correcting me.
No worries. Oh, and; us Texans only chemically castrate offenders after repeat offenses.
That is a very interesting fact. I feel I'm going to use that in a debate sometime in the near future.

ITT: people who think it's funny to hate on Texas.

I will not apologize for my state. While I think that this is a terrible situation, I think the school had every right to throw her off the cheerleading squad for insubordination.
Don't take it personally, overly impulsive people who refuse to see a situation objectivley tend to cast blame on the first thing that pops into their heads. Why yes, it is rather bigoted, but lets not let little details like that get in the way.

I've never even been to Texas, so this isn't me defending my own.

For the 50th time:
She isn't being made to pay compensation for refusing to cheer, she's being made to pay compensation because she sued the school in a frivolous lawsuit that did nothing but waste the schools time and money. Now they want her to pay their legal bills. They are 100% in the right in seeking compensation. Taking to a higher court wouldn't change a goddamn thing. It was stupid lawsuit that never stood a chance.

let the records show that on this day it was empirically proven that there is no kind benevolent god anywhere in this universe.

and if there is a god, it's obviously a misogynist with a sense of humor that can only be satisfied with levels of irony that would make mortal beings rage but makes it laugh

Okay i find this horrible but the main thing that makes me sick is i live in Texas and stuff like this happens and i have to be be grouped into this stupid stereotype, people need to learn you cant just judge everyone one in a state just because of news articles.

i think my head just exploded all over the wall..

what..how...

HE FUCKING SEXUALLY ASSAULTED HER?!?!? i would APPLAUD her for not cheering for him. perhaps getting suspended from the cheer team would have been enough, but she was kicked off, and fined and LOST THE CASE for 45,000 dollars?!?!? wtf? she is in fucking highschool, how the fuck is she supposed to get that kind of money? seriously?

how is it even possible for a school to sue over something like this?

Texas, huh?

It's this why everyone seems to hate my home state so much?

*sighs*

Humanity is severely lacking.

I find it funny that no one read the article. She isn't being fined because she didn't cheer for her "rapist". She being fined for suing, and losing the case on her being kicked out of the squad. She didn't have a case, she could have moved on, or let it be known in the media why she for her reason for being kicked out. Instead she sued the school, and had nothing to show for why she was being treated unfairly. She did sign up for Cheer leading, and she did choose to not cheer. Hell, she could have talk to her coach about this, or went to use the restroom or something. Oh well hindsight isn't 20/20, or however the saying goes.
Please read this post before posting.

THE SCHOOL DID NOT SUE HER! She sued the school and lost because she didn't have anything vaguely resembling a case against them. They now want her to pay the legals bills that she forced them to incur.

And quit mindlessly bashing Texas. It makes you like a bigoted jackass.

In court, Bolton pleaded guilty to the misdemeanour assault of *victim's name here*. He received two years of probation, community service, a fine and was required to take anger-management classes. The charge of rape was dropped, leaving him free to return to school and take up his place on the basketball team.

So, anyone willing to take bets that the judge was a basketball fan? You know, if this were anywhere but Texas I would be horrifically surprised, but I'm sorry, fuck that state. This shit is just appalling, and while I'm not really in favor of anyone suing government institutions, since it's just tax payer money, I'd say I still support this girl's case since she her supposed rapist didn't even get charged. Seriously, the fact that a school can get away with this shit, actually saying that while she's cheerleading she has no first amendment rights, just....GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH. You heard it here, folks, Texas puts high school sports ahead of basic human rights.

My sympathy to the girl. Hopefully she either doesn't have to pay that money herself, or she gets some turn of good luck, because going your life owing that kind of money, and forever associating that money with someone who raped you is just terrible. Here's hoping her classmates atleast don't pick on- what the hell am I saying, it's texas, the whole school probably supports the basketball player. Here's hoping she moves.

She didn't just sue them. She sued them in two different courts, and then after losing both times tried to take it straight to a federal court.

So,what are the Escapists feelings on this,I consider myself level headed and understand crazy shit happens in this world, but if I had a daughter who got raped and I had to pay the rapists legal fees,I think I would instead use that money to buy guns and ammo and go postal on the judge and rapist. This is if I was 100% certain my daughter got raped.
That's what I would consider doing. That's fucked up. what kind of backward ass people are they? Fuck em all
TEXAS!!!!! Though im surprised it wasn't football this time lol

The fee is due to them losing a legal challenge against the school. As the winners, the school wants to be reimbursed for what they see as wasting their time. The morality of the rape doesn't even come into it. That said, the negative publicity they could receive will probably be an even worse headache.

It would have been so simple if they had simply let her stay silent for the few scant seconds the team was cheering mr. rapist, then gotten on with the rest of their business. People need to learn how to manage these situations better.

Justice isn't just, fair, or righteous, it's a set of rules we're all meant to abide by to make sure our houses don't all burn down. Manipulate it as you will, that's the federally-given right of every citizen in this country.
Thanks for being smart, too bad only a few people will get to read your post or understand the logic behind such a ruling.

see this is why we need capital punishment in town squares, a man rapes a woman and gets his wang cut off - case closed

instead we have a retarded justice system that allows criminals to get away with this kind of crap

my rant..
Solves nothing, but we all sure do get to feel less useless, RIGHT?! Wait, no.

At the OP: I don't know who's dumber her for suing a school (what, you need money to get over this) or the school for not just pulling her or the dude away from the situation in the first place .. but people have their heads so firmly embedded in their asses that I don't think they can tell if the sun is out anymore.

It's an ugly situation all-around, but there's really no case for the girl to make. Her attacker already served his time. Yeah, she shouldn't have to cheer for him, but... she doesn't. She has the option of not being a cheerleader if cheering for the players is too distressing. It's rough that she has to pay, but the fines are for the frivolous lawsuit.
