My thoughts exactly! The comments along the lines of "OMG it was in CoD im so there!" (or whatever game they saw / visited it in) need a good clip round the earhole!Blood Stained Saint said:Sorry dude but as I mentioned before. And the people who are only interested cause of a game had this one lv there, you need to re-evaluate somethings in your life before even thinking of going there.
Theres more to it then just a abandoned place with a *post apocalyptyc look*
Take time to look at the pictures of the place. Posted a link to some in previous note.
Then again those...people...probably never watched the documentaries and read the books like I did. They never saw the human cost and that one poor sod who, when visiting his old flat in Prypiat, struggling and eventually failing to contain his grief.
Just looking at the photos of the place isn't enough for me and I would be there in a shot, could I ever afford it. Why would people want to go there? Same reason people visit Pompeii. Same reason scuba diving, potholing, tombstoning, shark-fishing and other such activities are so popular.
Prypiat is a town "frozen" in time and a stark reminder of just how fragile a species we are. You will notice that plants and animals are reclaiming the city and the surrounding forest but humans can never live there again (or so I'm told).
Of course there are still areas of lethal readiation, such as the reactor building (or at least what's left of it), forest and inside some buildings. Also the firetrucks and other vehicles parked near the plant are said to still be highly radioactive although I'd like to think they're adequately cordoned off! Hell, people work around the plant to this day, albeit in short shifts.
I would love to go for a number of reasons and, if done properly, I can't see the harm. Sure I'd like be equipped with a dosimeter / Geiger meter and dosed up on potassium tablets but that's just common sense. Just don't lean on any of the walls! The Sarcophagus is delicate enough as it is and a collapse would be very un-good. I belive a new one is being constructed that will be slid over the whole issue, sealed up and then the old one will be dismantled - carefully!
