WHAT

GTA IV personally. Mainly due to the fact that Niko has finally realized what the american dream is and that his actions killed the person he cared for the most.

Also, as a CoD fan, most of our community agreed that Black Ops was crap. Who was running this, spike TV?

This makes perfect sense and anyone who says otherwise is not thinking logically. The Guiness book of world records was basically made to settle arguments while you are completely smashed and out of your mind. Thus, given that variable the whole thing makes perfect sense as only when someone is completely out of their mind on a drug will that game have a good ending.

That said I understand best is subjective but you would think the best video game ending ever regardless of your opinion on it would at least be memorable. I cannot remember a thing past the final plot twist from the interrogation.

I am a big FF VII fan and even I know the ending is not in the top 10. I would put it in top 20ish but that is me.

Literally every game on that list has a better ending than Codblops did, and half of them aren't even that good. I distinctly remember Codblops having one of the worst endings of all time. I can't even remember it now it's had so little impact. I remember both Modern Warfare endings, all the Halo endings (even though I hate the Halo series) and most of those on that list that I played but NOT allegedly the best one...

Not necessarily the inherently best ending of all time, but my favorite ending probably has to belong to Mirror's Edge--that one shot looking out over the city as one of the best ending songs in video games starts up. <3

How the hell did Halo: Reach NOT win?!?

That's how you do an ending! I dont hate call of duty but I do have to call bullshit on this one.
Because Reach spoiled it's ending with every game before it...and at the very beginning of the game itself. :p

In case you missed it, here's the ending to Reach:
The Human's lose and you die.

Biiiiiiiiig surprise there! Never saw it coming! M. Night Shabamalamadingdong should take notes from 343! :p
Halo Reach's ending is a great example of storytelling and gameplay, it doesn't matter if you already know how it's going to end. A good story, and therefore a good ending, should be able to enjoyed multiple times.
I'm not saying that Reach's ending was BAD by any stretch. No, I really do enjoy the Last Stand (my record is making it for 10 minutes on Legendary), just saying that it doesn't really fit "Best Ending Evar!"

In my very biased opinion MGS3 had the best build up to and actual ending.
Hell yeah. MGS3 was awesome.
Gotta say, though, I personally felt MGS:peace Walker JUST tops it though, as you get to see the final moment when Big-Boss clicks and goes "off the rails".

MGS3's ending was the end of the beginning of Big-Boss's tale.
Peace Walker was the beginning of the end, and so was more dramatic from my point of view - seeing just how much he could take before he broke.

Although whether Peace Walker or Persona 3 had better endings, I can't honestly say.
P3 was badass as hell.

Seriously has anyone played any of the Persona games. The ending for Persona 3 was memorable. I'm not going to say why due to spoilers but if you haven't played the game I would recommend it. But yeah this list should have had a larger base of answers before posting a list with that pretentious of a title.

Aaaaah, what has the world come to? Seeing as this was chosen by a mere 13000 people, this isn't something to take seriously. But I do feel a little insulted as a gamer.

Best ending in a video game ever? I have no clue. I just know it is most certainly not Black Ops.

What the hell? I'm glad at least that Red Dead made it into the top ten, but being beaten by Black Ops? Black Ops had a horrible ending, it was a token story. It was only there so that Activision could make more money off the shrieking twelve year olds who genuinelly believe that CoD is the best game series ever, and if you disagree with them then your a ******.

I didn't even finish playing through it in over a year.
This could mean one of two things: the story (and therefore, the ending) is so bad that I didn't care, or I didn't care enough to get to a supposedly great ending.

MGS3 should of one in my oppinion, but thats all it is, this world record is stupid because its just stating that alot of people share the same oppinion, its not like the land speed record or anything where effort has been put in to break the previous record.

My question is how there polling worked and why the hell they asked random gamers when they should have asked people in the industry. Seriously, why would I care what random people think is the best. I think the guy with the world's longest toenails is more interesting then that.

Summarizing the thread so far

Whine whine whine X should have done better, whine whine whine Y should have been crap whine whine whine, why don't people think the way I do whine whine whine.
Here's the crux of the problem: Nearly all of the list is very recent. What happened to the good endings from the OLDER games? Riven, for instance. Or Day of the Tentacle. Or Rayman 2. The list REEKS of recent gamers who shun anything more than five years old.
Yeah, that's why Ocarina of time is right at the top right? Also on an unrelated note, maybe people just like recent stuff more? OH NOEZ! WHY DOESN'T THEY LIKE WHAT I LIKE! THEY MUST BE STUPID!
I said "nearly" Find me one on that list from pre-2004 that isn't Nintendo, I'm not seeing it.

And yes, OH NOEZ. We're forgetting a ton of classics! That IS something to be upset about.
Buddy, maybe nintendo classics are more popular in the modern world than other classics, ever stop to think of that? And maybe people don't share the same opinions as you of classic games being good or not, for example, most people on this website thinks that half life is a timeless classic...I think it's a pile of horse doo doo. Different opinions? WHAT NEW SPORE OF MADNESS IS THIS!?

Oh yeah and then there's the classic people are getting worked up over a list that reflects other peoples opinions that makes me slap my head at the intolerance of this website. Class act.
I, for one, am not getting really worked up. You're getting much more worked up than I am.

Oh, the implications.

And yes, Nintendo classics are very popular classics, but they aren't classic for their stories. They're classic for their gameplay, and often they are better games, but this is about endings, which is a story component.

And yet they tell me that people liked the ending of Super Mario Bros,

<youtube=4U6rAKKdxDA>

...better than the ending of Riven...

<youtube=YulhuEwJ4jE>

...where you save an entire civilization from an insane tyrant, rescue the good guy's wife, and finally find a way back to Earth. Whereas in the "better" ending, according to popular opinion, you find a princess and nothing happens.

I can't imagine why people are getting worked up.
Yes you're not getting worked up at all, that's why you've replied several times across the internet, trying to prove a guy wrong, you're far more worked up than me. Personally allow me to comment on something, if you're getting worked up over someone else's opinion, you seriously need to get out more, if you're not that worked up, then why did you respond to me when I was only mocking people that were getting working up?

It's someone else's opinion, why do you care? Also it is worth mentioning that the list covered things from a good twist to simply a fun boss, ok does that explain things? Can you calm down now?
The only one I see getting worked up in that exchange is you.

Just look at the top 5, two CODs, Halo and Zelda. The games with some of biggest fanboys.

I am so surprised that any MGS games made the list since it is on a 360 page.

It is such a joke to be honest.

In my very biased opinion MGS3 had the best build up to and actual ending.
This. How the hell was MGS3 only at 32. For that matter, how did the original manage to beat it?

By far the largest pile of bull-cross-horse shit news I've ever heard. I think the majorty of gamers Guinness asked were born into this generation. Which is the worst to be born in by far.

What the hell? The Force Unleashed 2? Super Mario Bros? Infamous?

The Guinness World Records team polled over 13,000 fans to find the best video game ending ever
That explains it. It wasn't a serious thing, just a popularity contest.
Fans of Call of Duty? Probably.

Here is how many games are present on that list and also of this generation: 33/50 (to my knowledge) and too many games are of the same franchise.

Also, I'm off to murder Gaz Deaves

Edit: Do you like my avatar? I made it myself!
Your avatar is nice, good job.

Screw Black Ops, what on earth is Fallout 3 doing on that list?!
I missed that one. Nominating any part of FO3's story for a list of anything positive is just confusing.
