That phone is awesome!
Coke could get into the Cell-phone business!
This could pontentially start the cola wars again...

COCA COLA vs PEPSI.......FIGHT!
Now thats just silly.
Everyone knows Coke is the best.
Indeed! It's superiority can now be measured both in flavor and in mAh.

... personally I don't want to have to refill my phone with coke every few days week and prefer the batteries.

This article basically tells a tale of a university student who has designed a phone that can run off the sugar in Coca Cola, lasts 6 times longer than a standard battery and only leaves water as waste... But apparently, Nokia think it's too futuristic...

So this got me thinking. Are companies actually holding back progress instead of helping it?

And my other question is... will the phone run off tea? Because that would be awesome.
Are you shitting me?!? Why the fuck can't we have this again?!?

If we could adapt this technology, and advance it, we could actually get a step closer to fucking infinite energy then Oil, which is a sad statement when you think of it.

Indeed, it makes me sad that business ethics are more important than the progression of the the human race. Damn them to hell.

Last time i checked, people bought new phones every year because they're fancy. I don't think this would change.
Because most of the market has the habit of frequently buying a new phone to keep up with advancements in technology, you may find that phones are frequently not designed to operate much more than the expected period. 'Obsolescence' I believe it's called.

Remember when they said in the 60/70/80/90s we would have flying cars by now?

This an example, pure bullshit.

That's one of the most interesting ways to power a phone that I've ever seen. I like the idea of being able to charge my phone from a vending machine.

If it's running off of the mass amounts of sugar in Coke, like the article says, I doubt it. Tea contains (ideally) no sugar.

'Too futuristic'. That's not a phrase you expect to hear all that often. If it's really this green I'd be interested. Then again, this phone would increase Coke sales by quite a bit, increasing production demand. Increased demand means a mass amount more produced, which uses a massive amount of energy. I wondering if this method would be truly green, or if it would be sort of like trying to start Hydrogen fuel, wherein the amount of energy used to actually create the fuel is greater than or equal to the amount saved by not using traditional power sources.

So how long do the enzymes last? Will they biodegrade before a typical battery goes dead?
Well if there reducing Cola then that sucrose (common sugar) so it would be the enzyme Sucrase performing a dehydration reaction. Therefore the enzymes could last a long time as long as there kept within temperature and PH levels, most enzymes stop working because your body realises a inhibitor to stop production of what the enzyme digests.

I'd like to think that Coke isn't the only thing it would run off. If the idea takes off a substitute could be made, like some sort of complex sugar water or something.

You mean India? Because that's the only one I see that has the water reserve issue with Coca Cola. Besides, I presume that the device doesn't need Coke in particular, just any sort of sugar water would probably do.
I was told Africa, but if they are doing it in India as well double douchebaggery!

Wow what assholes? It's too futuristic, we prefer making batteries that are hazardous to the environment because honestly what's a few million tons of lithium ion, or nickle metal hydrate to a few recycled cans of soda?

Cellphone companies are ALL assholes that are holding technology back and are just con artists. You get "free talking time" but you have to spend a quarter every text message, but for a monthly fee unlimited minuscule bits of data can be sent vs megabytes/gigabytes of voice. As much as I hate apple, the iphone really broke ground in a lot of ways.

Pepsi is the undisputed king of cola flavor. UNDISPUTED. Don't even try to dispute. You will be wrong.
This reminds me of an episode of Robot Chicken i saw recently.

I think the tech is cool, in an high school science fair kind of way. I'd buy one, just to have a soda-run phone. I could stick it in a cradle next to my potato-powered clock, too! :p

Well India was the only place I could find where that was a problem. You don't think your friend confused the two places? I just hate it when people confuse places. Oh well, call me a geography Nazi. ;)

Yes, they are. It's known as planned obsolescence and it's the backbone of almost every technology company.

Well that's just depressing. I can understand using that system if it is to deal with new updated products, nothing too innovative, but when something can genuinely help/improve people's lives, it is a shame that money is more important.
