Gurrex stood in absolute stillness as he considered the Earthfather's request. Though he respected his younger brother greatly, he acknowledged that there was no 100% guarantee he would gather enough support to win this war. He came to the conclusion that the best choice on his part would not be to submit to him and eliminate his own chance at rule.

"I will not submit to you, brother. Not yet. You say that you will gather the elementals under you? I shall make you a deal, then, brother: I will remain neutral in this conflict and will not fight unless provoked. If you do gather all the elementals under you, return to me and I shall join you."

The Earthfather nodded, and a smile returned to the crevice of his mouth. "I am glad we can agree on some things, brother. Life may hyet have a chance in this world. Now go, and try for peace with Aeon. I have beings to consult"

Again, he spoke to Amphritite, who had been hiding in his valleys. "Will you support me, sister? I will need your aid to seed the life in this new era"

"I will."

Amphitrite nodded, taking a few seconds to think about how small her voice seemed in comparison to the two behemoths. She thought about Gurrex and Aeon. Gurrex didn't seem bad, but so far she hadn't heard anything good about Aeon... She flowed to the top of one of the mountains on the Earthfather's shoulder.

"Already there has been a fight. We need to hurry..."

She was grateful that the Earthfather's bulk had shielded her from the raging forces that were exploding here and there.

What is this world coming to...

"Indeed" murmured the Jotun, "If we can count on V, then our job is already underway. Aeon is known to be aggressive, but I wonder who else we can persuade?"

Raising his voice, he called out with a voice of crashing avalanches, "Colossi, to me! The Earthfather would speak with you!"

At last, Aeon stood before the pillar. It was an impressive sight to be sure but beyond that it didn't seem to be doing anything particularly interesting at the moment. "Perhaps if I use my power to speed things up around here a bit..."

His musings were interrupted by the booming voice of the Earthfather calling for all colossi. "Well... I guess it's inevitable that our paths cross and now seems as good a time as any." Aeon muttered to himself with a sigh. Turning to the looming figure in the distance, Aeon created a path of accelerated time between them and ran along it. To Aeon it took almost an hour to get there, but to the Earthfather and anyone else there it would seem as though he had appeared in the blink of an eye. Standing before the mighty Earthfather, Aeon gave his usual grin.... And bowed. "A pleasure to finally meet you. How may I be of assistance, Earthfather?"

Umbra grimaced as earthfather's voice boomed out across--and even through--the landscape. He closed the remaining distance fairly quickly but stopped short when he spotted Aeon before the Jotun. He decided to hang back for the time being and watch from a reasonably safe distance.

I'll let them work this out. If earthfather needs my assistance then I'll intervene. He thought to himself, merging with the shadows cast by earthfather's towering form

"You know, Aeon" the Earthfather growled, "I am forging the order needed to preserve this world, and you have been busy disrupting it. I would have you cease your warring,a nd pledge your support for the new cycle."

"With me stand the Colossi of Fire and Water. Join us and create the world anew, or face us and be crushed."

Aeon couldn't help but laugh at the Earthfathers all too predictable response. "Look, I have seen the world you would create... And it's SO boring! If the world does end up like that, I'll probably have to skip right over that particular time period. So, no I will not join you."

"Say! I have a fantastic idea! Why don't YOU join ME? That way we can have the peace you so desire, and I don't have to skip an entire cycle out of boredom. Not a bad idea, eh?"

"Your would would be interesting," agreed the Earthfather, "But your 'interesting' involves violence, suffering and pain. I do not desire a world of sadistic brutality; I wish to sleep long and deep, and dream glorious dreams that fill the world with life. Under my rule, the world will again blossom flourish, and with good fortune, the next cycle will sew it's own seeds of creation."

"My dream will not be denied, Aeon. Submit now, or flee"

"Violence, suffering, and pain...?" Aeon slowly repeated the Earthfather's words. "You presume much for having only heard of my actions and not seen them with your own eyes. Do you really think that all I care for is violence? You wound me!"

"I have come too far to submit now. If your dream is truly undeniable than show me the strength of your convictions!"

The fox moved quickly throughout the desecrated ruin of human civilization. The air still hung heavy with the scent of death and failed potential. V sighed and moved forward.

The humans had been his pet project during the last cycle. He had been certain that introducing them to the art of the blaze would help them sustain themselves. He had believed that they would take his gift and use it to create. And for a time he was pleased. Through the ages their mastery of the blaze led to fantastic technological marvels the V would have never dared dream of. The glow of fireworks in particular had held significant meaning. The humans really could create beauty if they so tried.

But what had really been more impressive was the humans? ability to harness the fire as a weapon of destruction. The world was the way it was today because of that particular scrap of ingenuity.

V stopped and sniffed the air. He had moved to the cities in hope of finding the Colossus of Decay first. They had maintained an amiable relationship in the past and he hoped that Dreth would be willing to listen to his reasoning.

Amphitrite shook her head and left the small pool, returning to the sea. Like the Earthfather said, she could not risk a fight in her current form. Perhaps it was in Aeon's luck: a two on one fight wasn't fair for anyone, even the Colossus of Time.

Jotun and I... time is nothing to us, just as it is nothing to Aeon. We are patient. Centuries and Millenia pass by as seconds.

She felt the cool seawater again, sinking to the bottom of the sea. If the Earthfather needed her to fight, she would easily hear.

The storm seemed to calm slightly, the thunder rumbling to a stop, and the clouds lightened.
Then something strange happened, it began to rain, softly but far reaching. Soon puddles were forming everywhere and the earth softened and flowed with the water.

The rain began to come down upon Dreth as he made his way into another group of city ruins. He did not mind it at all, although he found it odd that something so peaceful would happen directly after something so violent.

Well these things happen. All energy is spent and things begin to slow. Dreth mused.

While walking through the abandoned streets he could tell that whatever was living there was now beginning to flee due to his presence. He was not hostile, but nothing ever wanted to stay near him for long. There was another oddity though in the ruins it seemed though. Something of life and most importantly, energy. He could see a faint trail of smoke in the air where he believed it to be, similar to the trail of smog he gave off. As he rounded a corner, he saw it, a large fox seemingly waiting for something. He approached it and bent down slightly to better examine it. He suddenly had flashes of memories when he moved on instinct rather than consciousness. This was another colossus that he had met before, apparently known as "V".

The sickly sweet scent of decomposition grew almost unbearable. V?s sense of smell had always been very keen and he was genuinely regretting it as the twisted form of the colossus of decay appeared before him. The fox?s eyes narrowed to a slit as the hideously deformed being made its way closer; his mind worked at a feverish pace trying to pick the proper words to say to his old acquaintance.

Throughout history the powers of decay and flame had taken positions that were simultaneously compatible yet conflicted. Although their paces had differed both were powers deeply rooted in destruction. Any differences between the two came in the fact that flame tended to destroy so quickly that decay would be unable to set in at full effectiveness. Despite this, V had always tried his hardest to remain on good terms with Dreth in their limited dealings in the past.

A warm smile spread across the fox?s face as Dreth spoke to him in his customary hiss. He stood up casually and his words gently filled the air.

?Good day Dreth. I trust you rested well??

The fox began to pace nonchalantly as he continued.

?Yes, you?re correct in assuming I may have some business to discuss. But first I have a simple question to ask. How do you feel about the current state of the world??

V seemed somewhat off-put by Dreth's appearance, though that was hardly a surprise. He still seemed friendly though. It matched with what Dreth dimly remembered during the other times they had met. Their "elements" were not the closest, but there was a similarity to them at least in outcome. None-the-less V had been rather friendly towards Dreth.

The smile on V?s face widened slightly. It was refreshing to find a being who really only seemed concerned with his own affairs. Dreth didn?t seem to have any deep seeded plans for war or delusions of power. He simply wanted to revel in nature?s self-produced chaos.

The fox?s tail flicked energetically as he spoke again.

?I spoke with the Earthfather earlier today. He plans to ensure that none of our siblings engage each other in combat through whatever means necessary.?

The smile had begun to fade into a look of concern.

?Now don?t get me wrong?there?s nothing wrong with the hope of peace. It is a worthy ideal trying to keep all relations from descending into chaos. But I?m a pragmatist. I find it best to assume the worst in others and plan accordingly.?

The clip of his pacing had accelerated. His steps no longer seemed casual and confident; his feet were bouncing anxiously along the ground.

?My concern is that this pretense may be a front. I?m not saying that he is going to try and wrestle control of the planet under a banner of false peace. I?m just advising you to stay on guard. Just to be safe.?

The fox?s facial expression softened after he spoke his piece.

?Anyway, I?m sure it?s nothing. Have you had a chance to speak with any of our other siblings yet??

The Earthfather sat long and quiet before he spoke, and when it was, his voice was as cold as glaciers.

"You would have me submit to you, or else fight, but you know well that either will be to deny my cause." he said slowly, then chuckled, "No, I will treat you as you truly deserve; you will be ignored, till such time as you threaten us. And by then, you will be nothing compared to our might."

As Aeon and the Earthfather butted heads, neither had even noticed the pint-sized figure watching from the top of a nearby building. Gurrex paid close attention as Aeon spoke, waiting for the Earthfather's response. Once he had felt the Earthfather had made his position clear, Gurrex nodded in satisfaction to himself and turned the other way, walking out into the city in hopes of something to do.

He made a silent wish that something would come along for him to fight, but he snuffed that candle just as it was lit. He had made a promise to remain neutral, and he would remain neutral.

"And THIS is a prime example of why I will never submit to you. You claim to hold such lofty ideals, yet will do nothing to protect them? How can I possibly entrust the new world to one who will not fight for it?"

Aeon sighed and turned away from the Earthfather. "You can ignore me all you want. It will only mean your demise in the end."
