I prefer Mark Meer's VO. Jennifer Hale's sounds good sometimes but at others it sounds like she's saying things without emotion. Mark Meer's VO is a lot better in ME2 than it was ME.

I guess it's all down to preference (And the fact that I haven't put enough time into ME2 femshep).

Besides, I've actually gone off topic. Sorry!

Really? I didn't think she sounded all too human. After playing as the lady Shepard I couldn't help but notice she uses what I feel is the generic lady-hero voice being a standard nonchalant/disinterested voice for every situation outside of being shot at.

Uh...Why not just let you choose your gender?
They do, except that in all the trailers, commercials, etc., Shepard is male. If you choose the standard Shepard option, he's male. In the canon, he's male.
I asked about that, actually. I was visiting BioWare for a look at Mass Effect 2, and I suggested to Casey Hudson that perhaps in one of their demos, they could use a female Shepard. For me (and many others), it's a major selling point of the game. His response was "...but he's male in all of our marketing and on the box. How would you know it was Mass Effect?"

He's right, of course, but it's a bit disappointing just the same.

I dunno. Recognisable aliens? The Normandy? The big "Mass Effect" logo at the end of trailers/on the box?

It's not as if alternative box arts/trailers haven't been done before. Admittedly less so for trailers, but considering how many of them they made for ME2, is it too much to ask for just one to include a FemShep? ;|

Well I guess it is, otherwise they'd have done it. *sigh*

Samus Aran, female Shepard, Bastila Shan, Trinity in The Matrix Path of Neo, Jennifer Mui from Mercenaries, and Aayla Secura from the Clone Wars cartoon are the all the same person. The coolest thing here is that each of those voices is distinct. The most similar being Mui and Bastila.

That'd be nice, but Yahtzee would make all of the dialogue go by before you even knew what happened.

That last was in reply to the selectable voices, and I don't know how to edit posts to include qoutes.

Yeah I know she does all those too but Bastila *fucking* Shan is the main point here as she was the Rox of all the Sox in the kingdom of Hard Nox.

Well, the game allows you to play as both genders. But for marketing purposes, having a female lead with covered up B or C-cups (I can't tell which) in a sci-fi setting, would just be too damn strange for the average consumer.

Plus people are idiots, and not seeing Sheploo would've confused them and made them think they were looking at a different game.

Personally I prefer Male to Female, but that's just me. Plus all of male Shep's romance options make it kinda hard to pass him up.

I prefer man Shep, but I feel Meer shouldn't have been used. Who would I suggest? Well, you should read my posts more, it's Nathan Fillion.
That would have been amazing. I'm not he would fit Mark Vanderloo, but that could be fixed but putting Fillion's face in instead.

Either that, or Nolan North would have done well. He seems to have the hero part down, although he may be a little overused.
Perhaps selectable voices like SR2? Nathan Fillion, Adam Baldwin, Noland North, Steve Downes, Yahtzee, and Liam Neeson.
See, that would have been amazing with awesome-sauce and a cherry on top. I at least would have liked it if you could choose between accents. You know, Irish or British Shepard anyone?

Just the idea of a female Shepard pisses me off, but maybe that's because I read the books.

I know, but it just seemed like you were trying to make it only female.

But neither the aliens nor The Normandy are the stars of the show, Shepard is. Also, let's be honest - the regular gaming public is far more likely to remember a human's face than the name of a ship when it comes to picking up a game for their PlayBox 3000.

BioWare aren't sexist jerks, but they're not stupid, either. If there was a good way for them to use female Shep without sacrificing recognition, they would've done it.

Truth. Bastila was kind of an annoying character, but I felt like Hale's voice acting carried it.

That's a hell of lot of voice recording.
Though Liam Neeson would make a much better manShep than Mark Meer.
Stupid Fallout, killing him off halfway in.

Oh, spoiler alert.

Once you get used to it, FemShep's voice is better than MaleShep. However, it just seems so forced and gruff sometimes that it's a little bit jarring.
