Um...the sniper IS an aussie? Valve even said so '-.-[kwdav said:first off i dont know if this post has been done but ive got to let you all know that the sniper in tf2 is not a ruddy aussie seriously why would an australian say for queen and country?.
the slang that is used in australia is also used in the uk, wanker mate and so on besides i have never heard a australian with a cockney accent.
so please people stop saying this character is australian if you really want to know how it goes its like this :-
Heavy - russian/eastern europe
scout - brooklyn new york
Sniper - england
Spy - france
Demoman - scotland
engineer - southern usa
Medic - germany
Soldier - usa
Pyro - ummm well idk this one i doubt anyone does
anyway this should clear up that the sniper is not a aussie
We are part of the Commonwealth, and cultural/political ties to engalnd/UK were very strong untill the end of WWII, when they shifted toward the US.kwdav said:seriously why would an australian say for queen and country?.
Australia is part of the British Commonwealth.kwdav said:first off i dont know if this post has been done but ive got to let you all know that the sniper in tf2 is not a ruddy aussie seriously why would an australian say for queen and country?.
Wow, TF2 takes place in a pretty specific timeframe. Somewhere between the unification of Germany and the fall of the Soviet Union.Phoenix Arrow said:Medic - Stuttgart, Germanykwdav said:why would an australian say for queen and country?.

1) Please, slightly better grammar and spelling can make your posts more readable.kwdav said:yes yes i get it im wrong so what people make mistakes besides you ever heard a aussie say for queen and country it doesnt make sense.
continuation of bashing will result in one of three options yoda jumping out of youre toilet and linching you a particularly stoned monkey being sent to your home or an imperial; order for the space marines to shove a 10 tonne armoured foot into a very uncomfortable place. [jokes]
now the common misconception can be about whatevr davemann was on about something about snipers being cowardly but we all knew that anyway. a different misconception that alo of my freinds seem to have is they wait to charge their shot before doing headshots i had always though that headshots were instacrit
no im not american i am actualy british but whatever i thank you for taking sucha lengthy time out of your day in which to insult me besides i was tired when i made the post besides on point 3 wtf does tf2 have to with bravery and training?. and also on your point of the ello guv'nah cockney accent did you know that is a stereotype and cockneys dont actually talk like that.Clashero said:Wow, TF2 takes place in a pretty specific timeframe. 2) I'm guessing you're an American. The Queen of England is the Head of State (=/= government) of the Commonwealth, which includes Australia.
3) Snipers aren't cowardly. They're just trained differently. Being an "ARRGHHH KILLLL" soldier doesn't make you brave either.
4) It's not a misconception. You NEED to charge your shots to get the instant crit with the sniper rifle.
Also, related to the OP: he does not have a cockney accent. Cockney accents are the more "Hello guv'nah" type. Like the kind you find in Victorian-era films.
"davemann was on about something about snipers being cowardly but we all knew that anyway" (Epic sic) That's where the whole bravery argument is coming from.kwdav said:no im not american i am actualy british but whatever i thank you for taking sucha lengthy time out of your day in which to insult me besides i was tired when i made the post besides on point 3 wtf does tf2 have to with bravery and training?. and also on your point of the ello guv'nah cockney accent did you know that is a stereotype and cockneys dont actually talk like that.Clashero said:Wow, TF2 takes place in a pretty specific timeframe. He has a huge southern accent.Erana said:And if the engineer were southern, he would have had a banjo. And a Southern accent.
yeah sure whatever, now i see it this way why the fuck should i care whether you think i have bad grammar or not this is the internet no one cares, and besides the other thing about bravery and training and such other crap really i mean who cares whether snipers are trained more its fuxing team fortress 2 no skill is required for snipers at all you crouch point and click. i dont see what really gives you authority to go criticising people about grammar and spelling across the internet or what makes you think people will go "OMFG you are right im an educated twonk thank you for correcting me now my life is complete".Clashero said:davemann was on about something about snipers being cowardly but we all knew that anyway" (Epic sic) That's where the whole bravery argument is coming from.
None of what I said was an insult, so I'd appreciate if you could be a bit less touchy. The point about English skills was constructive criticism. I guessed you were an American because most Escapists are either American, British or Australian, and I'd expect a brit or an aussie to know that the Queen of England is Head of State down under.
And of course hello guv'nah is a stereotype. If someone asked me to exemplify how an American "ghetto" type speaks, I'd probably say "yo dawg, nice kickz". That's a stereotype too! But it gets the point accross as well. I didn't feel the need to be precise and say that cockneys drop their H, alter a lot of diphthongs, usedouble negatives, the -er sound becomes different, etc.
And my point about grammar, spelling and punctuation still stands.
Isn't the clincher the TF2 sniper update, in which he gives his parents' address?Shapsters said:Yes he is, the accent may be off but he is meant to be an aussie

There's a Huge difference between Southern and Western. Texans like to call themselves "Southern," but they have different... Well, they're as different as Southerners to Bostonians.Doc Theta Sigma said:Allow me to correct you, it's a guitar.
