[font color=Purple]All players are free to wander around in the city, but you must get to the city before the end of the day, and you must stay in the city once you get there. There is an inn and a tavern on opposite sides of the road just beyond the city square. Taverns are open for business for all comers. Inns normally require payment for tenants, but for the length of the celebration all innkeepers have declared their rooms free of charge.
There are streamers, flags, music, and dancing all around. The shops have all closed for the day, except for a single stubborn blacksmith working late and a seamstress who is finishing up some costumes for those who are in need of weapons or clothing mended.

"Today is the first day of our official celebration of the 25th anniversary of Lord Kelden's reign. The city of Gemmel is bustling with citizens and travelers alike. I myself participated in two dances, before I was required to return to my duties. The king has ordered me to get an estimate of the total amount of bonded youths that have arrived for the celebration.
...I hope His Majesty knows what he is doing. I fear his advisers have been guiding him a bit too much lately. Nevertheless, I will perform my duty. My duties."
Johaan Thoron, 2nd Generation Companion of the Owl, Official Scribe for the King.
Kadence dodged past three people, one of whom had quite obviously been spending time at the tavern, as she made her way down the street. She had one last delivery to make before she could join the celebrations herself.
She finally made it past the bulk of the crowd and stopped to lean against one of the nearby shop buildings. Like most of the other shops, this one was closed. Garret appeared at her side a few moments later. Kadence grinned and reached out to pat her Companion on the head and scratch his ears. He was panting due to the heat and she made a note to find him some water after the letter was delivered.
The courier held a hand up to her forehead and squinted through the sunlight at the store signs. Finally she located the familiar anvil symbol farther down the street. She jogged to the door and knocked three times.
A young teenager with an apron on and soot covering his hands answered the door. Kadence explained that she had a letter to deliver, and the boy informed her that the smith was currently busy, that she could come back later or leave the letter here now. Kadence hesitated.
"He's my grandfather" the boy explained quickly, seeming rather eager to have her gone. Kadence frowned but then realized that the boy had probably wanted to go join the festivities but was stuck working, just as she was. She smiled and held out the letter, noticing a small soot covered mouse on the boy's shoulder as he reached out his hand. She thanked him, which got her a polite nod, then the apprentice shut the door. Kadence took a few steps back and looked down at her companion who returned her gaze silently.
Together they walked in the direction of the crowd.
