COMPUTER VIRUS

My computer has just broken down by a virus calling itself Anti virus software.
This is the second time in 3 months that this virus has hit with a slight variation of name but showing the same "help centre".

This time however it has disabled EVERYTHING! Internet, my Window's Security Essentials etc. I cant even do a system restore.

Anyone else have this issue and know how to resolve it WITHOUT deleting all my stuff???

Failing all that jazz, looks like it's time for a hard drive wipe and maybe you shouldn't fall for the same trick in the future.

i had this, get a program called rkill (google it, its free) it'll stop the virus working till you turn off you computer.

you can then run a scan and it should work

I'm afraid that a "Nuke-from-orbit" situation has befallen you.

The only way to prevent this in future is an antivirus, since these programs will target computers without them in particular.

Let me guess, you clicked on one of those pop-up windows that said something along the lines of "Your computer is infected with (X} viruses. Click here to run a scan now." Those are always scams and generally more likely to infect your computer not disinfect.
If system restore is non-functional, reformatting may be your only option. Are you able to get into safe mode?

Well if you have a drive caddy you could pull your data off that isn't infected. But as far as salvaging that install of windows, I wouldn't even recommend trying.

*Edit* In the future, Microsoft Security Essentials is only a half measure, Spybot is a good tool to keep stuff like that from installing itself or making any entries in your registry.

sounds like its reformat time, or you could take it to a shop and get them to try and save your data but it sounds like the os is effed

seriously tho, get some antivirus and dont use internet explorer

Its a rogue virus, first try Malwarebytes, if that fails look up what items to delete in the registry, then go Start>Run>regedit and delete them there. If that fails:

Sorry, man*oops*. Unless you have a second drive to back stuff up on and then introduce files slowly onto a fresh OS installation with up-to-date antivirus and anti-malware protection... you're just going to have to DBAN that sucker and start over.
Moral of the story: always have backup drives.

You can use a Linux live CD and a portable hard disk to back the data up... Just be sure to run a malware scan on it

I had one of these. They are a pain. Not even my "insanely good with computers" friend could do anything. I literally had to reinstall my operating system. So, yeah. Have fun.

I've had that in the past, and it's actually really easy to get rid of. You simply have to locate the files that make up the 'anti-virus' virus, somewhere on your hard drive, and delete each one in turn (and don't forget to empty the Recycle Bin afterwards ). For a full step-by-step way of doing this, better than I can explain, here's a helpful article that gave me the right advice when I had the problem not so long ago. Also, after you do it, try doing a 'Full System Restore' as well, but only if the problems continue. That basically sends your PC 'back' to a saved restore point, and doesn't touch any of your files or programs, so it's like doing a reboot but without losing all your porn downloaded music legitimate files in the process .

do not reformat, this isn't a hard fix.

boot into safe mode with networking
download, install and run malware bytes
reboot
be more careful online

How do people even manage these things? How did you get a virus? I've never had a serious virus like this before. Only the stupid shit ones that disappear within one scan.
