One day, Steam had a pretty awesome sale where you got Fallout, Fallout 2, and Fallout Tactics in a bundle for a pretty darn cheap price (I can't quite remember what the price was, but I'm fairly certain it was under $10). And I thought, "hey, why not? I know it's not the same as Fallout 3 (which I really enjoy), but I'm certain it can be fun in its own right!"

Before going in I knew it was in an isometric view (which became extremely annoying when the door to a building was on the "invisible" side, but you couldn't see it because the roof was in the way) and that it was turn-based combat. "Whatever!" said I, "I'm sure it will still be enjoyable!"

And... I tried. I really did try. There were a good deal of annoyances that I tried to just accept, but... in the end, I just couldn't get into EITHER of the original Fallout games. I actually got through to the halfway point of the first game (I THINK it's the halfway point anyways... I got the water chip). But... I just can't do it.

I think the thing that really got to me was the action points thing. I had like... five. And never anymore than that, even when I leveled up. Doing one thing would end my turn, including OPENING UP MY INVENTORY. Whereas the majority of my enemies could attack me twice. When I got a follower guy that definitely helped... and even he had more AP than I did. He could reload and attack in a single turn FFS.

So... I dunno. MAYBE I AM DOING THINGS HORRIBLY WRONG. That wouldn't surprise me. The first time I played Dragon Age: Origins I did things horribly wrong then, too. I was still able to complete the game and it's my #1 game of all time (which is kind of hilarious since at the time the only games I liked to play were First Person Shooters and I'd taken a rather large gamble on a game I knew almost nothing about).

Maybe I could suffer through the gameplay if the story was better, but... argh. It is so. Fucking. BORING. *flip table* I really do not understand how fans of the original Fallout titles can praise THOSE stories, but talk shit about Fallout 3's....

*sigh* So, fellow Escapees... any games that you just couldn't get into, no matter how hard you tried? It can be because of HUGE things (like gameplay) or little things (like... I don't know... one character's voice acting).
(And yes, you may say Dragon Age: Origins :p I won't hate you for it, and I've heard some fairly valid criticisms towards it).

My runner up game is Morrowind. Runner up since through virtue of the console I can cheat like fuck through that game. "~tgm" is like my motto for that game... hrr.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution. It was alright, but neither the story nor the gameplay were anything special, once I'd finished it my reaction was, "That's it?" I'd been expecting something amazing because of everyone going on about it, and got an average action-RPG. :(

Planescape torment, I'm sorry!

I know I'd fucking love it if I could find out which way I need to go.....

Why is the text being placed in the center?

Xenoblade Chronicles. I love the setting, the characters, the story, the voices, but everything else just sucks, from the combat to the quests (although I like that they finish automagically, not needing to return to the quest giver). I mean, the combat is like the worst parts of an MMOs combat system, mashed with a few unique gimmicks, like seeing the future. I want to keep playing it, but really, it's slogging through one massive chore after the other to see each individual, yet incredibly awesome, cutscene.

demon souls
the older splinter cell games
thief series (this has more to do with the graphics being so old)

Half-life 2 is not a good game. It's not a bad game, and I do give respect to its modding capabilities.

But in all seriousness, it is just shit. It's boring. The characters are not interesting and it has a shit ending as well.

Also, weapon variety sucks, people think it has weapon variety? HA!

Maybe Persona 3 FES? More so The Answer. God what were they thinking taking the awesome antigrind system out of the game and replacing it with so much grind all over the place! Oh and the difficulty is stuck on Hard. Forgot to mention. I tried I really did... I hope the story I missed wasn't important!

Persona 3 in general was not as good as I was expecting (well I played Persona 4 first so maybe that raised my expectations a tad) the complete dickhole of a main character, lack of a quick travel button (you miss it once it's gone) and the godawful party AI made it only worth going through once.

Every time I think to try it again, I remember how bad the AI is and swiftly put the game down

Plus you need to New Game + to beat or even start in some cases your party member's Social Links. Why are they only unlocked when you have maxed stat X? Party members are damn important.

Really I can list reasons why I don't like P3 as much as P4 all day but only because I say P4 does literally everything so much better.

Though Aigis as a character and the whole love thing with Chidori just past the halfway point were both completely epic.

And your party members being able to get caught by random enemies if you are rushing a floor was hit and miss. Jumping in on my own to save Aigis from a 1v4 was pretty damn awesome. Though getting your party into 3 different fights at the same time gets a bit clusterfucky.

Me? The old Fallouts, myself... Well, it's not to say that I don't enjoy them, but each time I give it a try, I get eaten by geckos/flowers/mutated navel lint while I stumble around finding my way around the map. Those games are great, and the setting is wonderful, but I'm just not the type.

Also; jRPGs. I... Don't see anything in them. Sure, some characters can be very charming, and they're at least somewhat better charictarised than what we mostly get in wRPGs. But... I can't find enough care for their fate to drag them along while I'm randomly molested by monsters every second step.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution. It just never pulled me in. I watched a LP and it seems good, but I never could get myself motivated to play it.

Fable 2. Holy hell I hated that game, and EVERYONE ELSE seemed to love it, and talk about it like it was the second coming of christ.

I couldn't play it more then an hour without dying of boredom. I even went so far as to watch my friend play through it, and it didn't get any better. It was bad the whole way through.

So bad.

I was about to offer some of counters to your points (as it were, I'm aware this all opinion), but then I realised something: the example I'd be using to make my points is Persona 3 Portable. As in, the re-release that improves almost everything about Persona 3, such as a much nicer main character in the Female MC, a fast travel option and even a different approach to Tartarus. The more I think about it, the more I realise just how difficult it'd be for me to go back and play Persona 3 now, after both Portable and Persona 4.

For myself, recently it's been Limbo. Sure, the atmosphere's well done, but it's boring visually, the atmosphere is lost once you get past the jungle (or even the spider), the puzzles are repetitive and the controls are sluggish, which is a killer of a problem in a platformer. Similarly, see Super Meat Boy - terrible controls cause more deaths than difficulty. Add to that frustrating gameplay with no gratification for beating it and a sense of humour built almost entirely upon references and you get a very disappointed Goat.

Final-fucking-Fantasy. Most JRPGs are off my radar anyway, but this series always manages to piss me off without even trying. In fact, a mate of mine got 7 off the PSN store and tried to show me why he thought it was good...I fell asleep within half an hour! At least newer JRPGs try to evolve, Valkyrie Chronicles was actually very enjoyable, but FF will never appeal to me.

X3. Bought X3 Terran Conflict on a whim, and did not like it. I think I would have been ok with flying around for hours accomplishing nothing with the complex as hell interface (I couldn't even figure out how to cheat). But it was just so... empty. There was no one to talk to, no life at all. Every single ship captain had the same robotic responses and the stations were literally robots.

The Assassins Creed games.

Bioware's games too. I play games to have fun not to listen to NPC's whine.

Super Meat Boy... God, there's a reason I spent most of that game playing as Rainbow Dash or whatever his name was. That air dash is pure win. Meat Boy is so slippery it's ridiculous. You spend most of the time just slippy sliding off ledges/into saws.

Limbo was still good I think but the puzzles shouldn't have started becoming the main focus of the game (i.e. the factory and everything past it) the Spider and all the foresty stuff was awesomely atmospheric. Though maybe they ran out of cool ideas and defaulted to puzzles ago-go.

I know i'll go and try Persona 3 again when I get my PS2 back (after going through the first two hours of Persona 4 again of course. That never gets old for some reason.)

Just close your eyes, think of Aigis and hope Mitsuru doesn't decide to fail a Marin Fucking Karin instead of healing you.

Maybe i'll try to think that the MC's innate dickishness is just a facade (or persona if you will) that he must use to... Do something. He doesn't want to admit he might actually like his friends? I don't know.
