People are being absolutely ridiculous in claiming she deserved it. No, being in a coma for maybe the rest of your life is not something anyone deserves. What is it with people and petty vengeance? Is it really that hard to try and be better than that?
She didn't deserve it, she EARNED it. She woke up in the morning and said, "You know what's great? Cocaine AND Oxycontin both at the same time. I love driving but getting a license is for morons, who don't have drugs to buy. Bumper cars is much better with a V8, people get so pissy when I hit them with a car and leave." She worked very hard making only the poorest possible decisions that day. I think she might even be wearing crocs.

She didn't deserve her supposed brain damage but she did deserved to get tazed

from what I've seen and read about this now she had it coming. I feel a little bad she's in a coma from which she probably won't awaken but if she was stupid enough to run after already being arrested then c'est la vie.

That was justified, She ran from a cop, he tasered her to stop her. Having your hands cuffed together, doesn't slow your feet down so it's not 100% he's gonna catch her, and they haven't put lowjack in handcuffs yet to locate her if she did get away.

It was the most non-lethal action he had and it sucks that worst case scenario happened but hell long shots happened.

I'll go along and say it's the best thing he could have done, If you looked at the video she was running into the street, this video could just as likely be " handcuffed girl runs from cop and gets hit by mac truck" or "runs and causes cars to swerve and crash killing X" "handcuffed girl gets away and kills whoever" If you want to list things worse that have that same 1 in 1000000 chance of happening.

Okay this makes it even worse for the cop: http://www.baynews9.com/article/news/2012/february/383311/Exclusive:-Trooper-defends-tasing-new-video-shows-suspect-out-of-handcuffs

In the new video, Maudsley is seen in the back of Cole's cruiser after being arrested, managing to get her right hand free from handcuffs and eventually playing with her hair. At one point, it appears she tries to open the cruiser's door, but can't.

As Cole pulls into the Pinellas Park FHP Substation, Maudsley works to slip the handcuff back on, but it's too late.

"I took this off," Maudsley tells Cole.

"Put it back on," he told her.

Cole puts the handcuff back on Muadsley's wrist and escorts her into the substation.

Forty minutes later, video shows Maudsley running from the substation before she is tased with her hands cuffed in front of her and slams down to the parking lot ground.
This didn't happen at the scene of a crime, it happened at a police station! Y'know, the kind of place where there are other cops around to help out.

"I know that I can?t just jump on her. I?m three times her weight. If we go down, one, or both of us, is going to get hurt. The taser is the intermediate weapon of choice," he says.
Well, there is that, but....

The investigator asks Cole if he considered Maudsley falling and injuring herself if he tased her.

"No."
Idiot.
wow just wow.

first of all she would have to have switched her cuffs a second time while in the station since he said he didn't cuff her from the front. so she was removing her cuffs at will.

he said he didn't want to tackle her because of his weight as in HE MIGHT CRUSH HER. that doesn't make him an idiot he just didn't think that her falling on her own with out a fat man in top of her was going to cause brain damage. the fact that he was LOOKING OUT FOR HER SAFETY BY NOT CRUSHING HER WITH OVER DOUBLE HER BODY WEIGHT is pretty clear in this article it doesn't make him look worse.

Sure this is a terrible thing to have happened. But one really easy way of avoiding such crap is not to try to run from the police. I have no sympathy for criminals, and they would have none for me or any of us. As evidenced by the way they, you know, rob us, beat us, run us over drunk because they didn't want to call a cab.

That said, It would be nice if the authorities would stop treating tazers as some kind of magical always non lethal solution to everything weapon.

Her fault for running away, unfortunate how it ended, but, well, nobody to blame but yourself for running away.

Same event could have happened if he tackled her, infact, that's more likely to cause injury here.

As per usual, Blablahb is in here doing as much as he damn well can to raise a stink using ridiculous hyperbole, lack of perspective and awe-inspiring stubbornness. Gee, how unexpected.

OT: Yay. Another cop story. It's even less shocking and infuriating than the others. A girl fell and hit her head, a cop, taser and drugs just happen to be involved. Can we report on anything else now?

I completely agree. It's stuff like this that makes me believe that the goodness of the humans spirit is nothing but a load of hogwash.
