I order you to see In Bruges. It's an excellent dark comedy that's genuinely piss-your-pants funny. Literally in the case of my highly-strung friend.

I haven't seen a good comedy for quite a while and would like to have some laughs.
Dogma.

It is a Kevin Smith film. I am a devout Christian and I still found this movie hilarious and thought provoking.

Dammit, ninja'd for Mel Brooks in general and Young Frankenstein. Try Airplane! as well, and a lot of movies with Bill Murray are pretty good. There's also the movie Clue, I found it hilarious.

Shaolin Soccer.

An amazing Chinese comedy poking fun at martial arts movies. Absolutely hilarious.
Don't forget it takes the piss out of football as well. That's a plus in its favour, don'tcha think? For a martial arts comedy, it has really high production value as well, definitely worth the watch.

OT: Kelly's Heroes was the first one that came to mind. Worth it if only for Donald Sutherland's performance (he spent almost the entire of the filming duration high... effectively). Just how often does one get to see a hippy tank commander?
Much truth in that.

I think a valid summary to entice people would be Dragonball Z + Football(Soccer for my American buddies)

Try watching these films- Anchorman and Zoolander unless you hate Will Ferrel and Ben Stiller.

The Fifth Element. Chris Tucker was sort of unnessecary, but apart from him, it has been a long time since I had so much fun watching a movie.

The Evil Dead II. Oh, how I laughed and laughed...though Army of Darkness was more of a comedy, in the sense that it set out to be comedic.

Hot Fuzz or Shaun of the Dead.
Simon Pegg is awesome.
This.

Also, if you haven't seen old monty python stuff like the holy grail and the life of Brian, I would certainly recommend them.

"The Big Lebowski" has been said and it needs to be said again.
"Office Space" is another must see. Made by Mike Judge who is a comedy goldmine
IF you only watch two movies ever, you won't be disappointed by those two.
