Most of the ones I was going to say like Kevin Smith, Mel Brooks and Monty Python have been said so I'll go with this one:

Burn After Reading. Its one of my favourite comedy films I've seen in the last couple of years, the entire thing is one long running joke and when the punchline hits at the end its brilliant.

Also while they're technically not comedies, Guy Ritchies films can be pretty funny. Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Snatch and RocknRolla.
burn after reading- great choice! :)

It's been said, but if you haven't seen The Big Lebowski already, it's likely one of the best comedies ever written.

Burn After Reading is good too. In fact, every Coen brothers comedy is good (as are all Coen brothers films in general).

And naturally every Python movie, though I imagine you must have seen them already too given that you're so out of obvious options that you turned to us for help.

The original Death at a Funeral is also hilarious. Take care that you find the original rather than the awful American remake mysteriously released three years later. Apparently executives thought the film would do better in America if it were blatantly terrible.

Shaolin Soccer.

An amazing Chinese comedy poking fun at martial arts movies. Absolutely hilarious.
oh yeah that movie! that was frigging hilarious. almost as funny as Kung Pow. which you should also see.

most mel brooks films are great the first time through. i particularly liked Young Frankenstein and Blazing Saddles.

another good comedy you should go see is the second rush hour movie. it improves upon the first i think, and it doesn't seem like a cash in because it is genuinely good, and it takes place right where the last one left off. well, about a week later, but still. very much worth watching, and so is the first rush hour. third i liked, though i can understand why some would not, and it was kind of a cash in, but hey, i liked it. thought it was pretty good

I'd recommend Monty Python and the Holy Grail or Life of Brian. Anything by the pythons, really.
Or Blazing Saddles.

There's also The Room. Not a comedy, but the acting is so bad you can't help but laugh.
Wiseau says its a comedy but we all know it isn't.

"Office Space" is another must see. Made by Mike Judge who is a comedy goldmine
I cannot recommend this movie enough. I have watched it at least 6 times and it's still just as funny as the first time.

I've seen most of the things people have said before and they're all good. You have a lot of awesome movies to watch.

'In The Loop' if you're into political satire... and lots of creative swearing.

On that note, Kung Fu Hustle. By the same guy, and just as hilarious.

if you like old exploitation flicks, or at least aren't offended by them, my dad showed me "I'm gonna get you sucka!", and i thought it was frigging hilarious, especially the finale which makes no sense whatsoever, and includes a creative 4th wall break. in case of any flak i might catch for this, im not racist. i hold no animosity towards any specific ethnic group, and it was my father, who is a black man, who showed me this. so yeah, not a racist, just thought it was a funny movie.

another funny one would be sex drive. i didn't think it would be too funny by the commercials, but the main character is so tactless and has such bad timing in the movie (not the actor the character), that he winds up in a ton of funny situations, and the supporting cast is hilarious. especially his elder brother (epilogue makes his brother's actions and general demeanor throughout the movie even funnier)

That movie does not get enough credit, it was awesome... I think the fact that they killed Aaron Eckhart off so fast in dark night was the worst decision they could of made, he is an awesome actor.
