Shaolin Soccer.

An amazing Chinese comedy poking fun at martial arts movies. Absolutely hilarious.
Thank you, I've looking for the name of that movie for ages

OP_ Beowulf, the special effects in that movie are SO bad

EDIT: OFFICE SPACE, if you haven't seen it then you are missing out, big time.

The Evil Dead II. Oh, how I laughed and laughed...though Army of Darkness was more of a comedy, in the sense that it set out to be comedic.
As did Evil Dead 2: it has horror parts and comedy parts and various mixings of the two. Your post makes it sound as though this were unintentional.

The best recent Hollywood comedy I've seen was The Hangover. In a sea of shit, that one stands out as being genuinely funny. I would also add Four Lions as a recent non-Hollywood extremely-bloody-funny film.

The Hangover was hilarious- I'd highly recommend it. A little bit more old school is Bubble Boy, as a teenager one of my favourite films.

Simon Pegg is awesome.

There's also The Room. Not a comedy, but the acting is so bad you can't help but laugh.

You could try an old Jackie Chan film. He adds humourous charm to his films, cept when he's trying to act in a serious film, like in "Shinjuku Incident."

It might not be a comedy but it's definitely light, funny and clever. Lucky Number Slevin. Watch it, watch it now! Watch it now and tell me that you loved it.

I recommend the naked gun trilogy, that's 3 recommendations for the price of one!

Here's a clip:

Most of the ones I was going to say like Kevin Smith, Mel Brooks and Monty Python have been said so I'll go with this one:

Burn After Reading. Its one of my favourite comedy films I've seen in the last couple of years, the entire thing is one long running joke and when the punchline hits at the end its brilliant.

Also while they're technically not comedies, Guy Ritchies films can be pretty funny. Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Snatch and RocknRolla.

Being Human and Big Bang Theory. Not movies but I haven't seen a lot of genuinely funny movies lately. These series are funny and engaging.

Like many have already said Monty Python is great. The Meaning of Life is brilliant in its absurdity and Life of Brian is very good as well.

The Holy Grail is probably has the "straightest" and easiest to understand humor so it would probably be the best place place to start.

Definitely this BUT you must watch it subtitled, it is 100 times funnier than the dub.

If you want some extremely weird but hilarious films then you can't go wrong with Takeshi Miike's Gozu and Visitor Q. Be warned, these are pretty erm...different.

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, In Bruges, Waynes world, Beer Fest, Super Troopers are all very good aswell.

High fidelity is actually a brilliant comedy. It's hard to get a good comedy these days but this is definitely one!
