The original <youtube=S7D65IomNYY>
The cover <youtube=DSIUrba-aoc>

The original <youtube=h-S90Uch2as> The cover <youtube=gwNdq4AC6qY>

(I like these two equally) The original <youtube=E4SYYQ18xE4> The cover <youtube=u6sy1niU19g>

...and of course Marilyn Manson's cover of 'Sweet Dreams', Johnny Cash's cover of 'Hurt', Jeff buckley's cover of 'Hallejah' and Jimi Hendrix's cover of 'All along the watchtower'...

I liked Noise Unit's remix of Straight to Video by Mindless Self Indulgence much more than their original:

Well I would have posted Johnny Cash's hurt if the OP didn't list it as his first cover. So I guess the two covers that I really like more than the original is Marilyn Manson's "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This) and Rammstein's "Stripped".

YES.

But I include with that list:
I know I might get flak for that, but I like the cover as well as the original one.

How could i forget these two:

Okay first feeling good, i prefer the muse version over nina simone's, though her one is brilliant too

and i'm not sure if i prefer this to the original, as the original is such a classic

but muse's version is an extremely cool cover which people should really check out:

I can only think of this one off the top of my head:
Maybe it's because I heard this version first, but when I did finally hear the original I found it droned on too much.

i don't have enough time to list all my favourites but I'd like to rock the boat a little and say that All Along the Watchtower was done far better by Dylan. Hendrix's version might be more technically impressive, and the guitar solo is rad, but I think it's almost completely without the creepy atmosphere of the original and that consequently the lyrics are quite clashing with the music.
Agreed. There are so many listed in this thread I disagree with.

Some fans of really old music might hate me for that, but for me if the covered track was written before 1960 then the cover becomes the original.
That's just factually untrue.

Ok, Land Of Confusion by Disturbed, Take On Me by Reel Big Fish, and most importantly, One by Periphery, fantastic cover.

Yea it is, but what I meant to say is that I don't really care if a song by Led Zeppelin or Deep Purple was written by some 1930s blues artist. The original is likely worse, less interesting and barely audible compared to the cover.
That's ridiculous. Just because a song is old, and is from a genre you don't like, that doesn't mean it's bad. Refusing to acknowledge our previous influences and the influences of our influences is a path down mediocrity.

Well since someone already mentioned MF&tGGs.
gODHEAD had a pretty good eleanor rigby. The singer looks less like Quan Chi in person.

Gotta be honest I don't really care all that much for the Beatles but I like it when people cover them.

If you don't like a genre how could you recognize it as good?
I don't like hiphop generally ergo, I have no idea what is a good hiphop song and what is a bad one.

I prefer the madworld cover by Gary Joules and I prefer Jonathon Coulton's cover of famous blue raincoat to the original.
