While doing some light browsing I came across a interesting bit of information. Apparently 20th Century Fox has plans to create a Live-Action Cowboy Bebop Movie with Keanu Reeves to play Spike Speigel. Has anyone else heard about this? Also what do you think about this?

I'm not sure why something like this would even surface. Let alone why they would have him play the main role. I just don't see that happening. What would this move be about? What would they follow? It's just too much and a part of me hope it stays a rumor.

I've heard about it, but I'm not sure if Keanu would be right for the part. I mean, he's probably a nice guy and all... but he doesn't really look or sound anything like Spike.

I mean, have you heard Spike? His voice is like liquid velvet and cigarette smoke combined with awesome. Keanu just can't sound like that.

I heard about this a few weeks back... I'm sorry, they will bugger this up to kingdom come... I seem to remember that there is a Cowboy Beebop movie... with all the "real" talent from the show involved, it was pretty good too. I'm not an anime hard liner fan at all, but I liked this show enough to DL the original versions of it (instead of the the adult swim ones), but it'll be ruined by hollywood, as sure as there are more fake breasts in that town than real ones...

plus, half the show is the back story of all the other characters, how do you explain all of that in 90 bite sized minutes for the main stream moron crowd?

This does seem rather like exploitation of the series... taking it away from it's anime roots and throwing the horor of Hollywood all over it. If it turns out to be a good film it'll be more an accident than a delierate and legitimate attempt.

I've heard about this a while ago... And while I didn't watch too much of Beebop, I watched enough... Keanu is not the one, man

I heard about this a while back. I'm sure it'll suck big donkey balls, but I'm sure it won't be half as bad as the Dragonball movie will be...

Mr. Reeves, whatever his triumphs as an actor (and I can only think of the Bill & Ted's... movies, in everything else he was overshadowed by the plot or other actors), would make a terrible Spike. The only movies I've seen which comes close to having the same sort of "playfully noir" theme are Sin City and The Spirit. Besides, as any Bebop fan knows, in any truly faithful adaptationSpike would never get the girl.

I heard about it. It's a stupid idea, and Bebop is one of my favourite shows, and my favourite anime. The idea to make a live-action version of it would just ruin the whole thing, you wouldn't be able to do alot of the stuff you see as well as it was drawn.

But, to me it just seems like the latest in a string of bad ideas and money-grabbing schemes to piss off fans that Hollywood has had lately, such as the poor-looking, fan-crotch-kicking, star trek film, or the Dragonball Z "take away everything good" film, or the many other destructions of the source material films that are coming out soon.

I've always been a great Cowboy Bebop fan, this was my reaction [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WWaLxFIVX1s] when I heard this news. Especially the Keanu part, I mean what the hell they're almost like opposites. Sure Spike tries to act as if he never cares, he acts like a rock, but Kaenu just... is a rock. And loose from Kaenu, well a live-action version already would never be as good as the anime. The fact that Cowboy Bebop is an anime, gives it the ability to do a lót of things you just can't do in a live-action movie, some of them who make the show to what it is.

Why?! For the love of God WHY!? Out of all the actors in all the world Why Keanu Reeves? Why even try to make a live action move? How does Hollywood even ruin Anime so badly every time, you think they would get it right once?

Y'know I think I actually recall hearing about this...

I saw the Knockin' on Heaven's Door movie and was totally mesmerized by how well they balanced all the drama, comedy, and action in a smooth, distinct Anime style.
I got the whole series queued up on Netflix and I can't wait to see more.

I actually somehow don't have a problem with the movie as long as they only loosely base it off the series.
I mean c'mon, it's set in a very unique future with off-planet colonization that still retains some very classy, old-world culture.
Who wouldn't want a sci-fi thriller/action movie set in a universe like that?
