I heard about this a while back. I'm sure it'll suck big donkey balls, but I'm sure it won't be half as bad as the Dragonball movie will be...
My thoughts exactly. They'll be talking about how bad the Dragon ball Z movie was for months but the Live-Action Cowboy Bebop will probably slowly and quietly bleed out and die in a corner.

Leonardo DiShittio is in desperate need of a round to his acting career's forehead. Man pisses me off royally every time I see him. I just avoid movies with him in them now.

But the question is, other than a desire to make us hate them even more while simultaneously draining or wallets, why the need to convert existing material to live action? Is there such a dearth of creativity in Hollywood that all that's left is to plunder popular sub-culture?

Some books beg to have movies made of them; some are written for the purpose. Other things should be left alone. Why not come up with a fairly original idea? Even if it's all been done before, we still find decent ways to stir it up once in a while, you know?

Ah, shit, perhaps I'm just a bit jaded. I think it might be all the sequels and fucking up of good things, you know? Day The Earth Stood Still? Shitty remake, even without taking Keanu into account. Classic movie not in need of a remake, you know? There already was a Bebop movie. Why translate and butcher it like this? Cheaper to make another animated one, and we'll all go apeshit over it, you know?
I'm pretty sure I get what you're doing with those "you knows," but I am still going to murder you in the face.
Those you knows are just a bad habit, really. Didn't even really think about them, you know (ok, yeah, that one was on purpose)?

Now that you've pointed it out, fuck me. Obnoxious. Oh well, I'll get over it... done. Otherwise I'd get all cranky and pissy with myself, and I'd hate to deal with that prick.

Anyway, what is it you think I'm doing with them, anyhow? It's nothing naughty, I trust. That'd be... disturbing.

Yeah, never watched Naruto. Confined myself to more adult japanimation. Which is what it was when I started checking it out. Not a huge nerd or anything, but I was always a fan of Bebop, Ninja Scroll, Vampire Hunter D (and Bloodlust), Ghost in the Shell, and maybe some Trigun. Never got into DBanything, Naruto (which looks like watered down pokemon bullshit, really), or any of that.

Not trying to sound elitist, just... a little too old for that, if you catch my drift (better?). Also, I think getting murdered in the face might hurt, really, so I'd appreciate it if you avoided that for now, or I'm going to have to fast track those murderbots I keep meaning to get around to.

Also, didn't catch the earlier post with the spoilered image (does that even make sense?) in it. I don't know what the second image is from, but it looks like shitty Green Day. Who now suck because they stopped having fun. Well, more than that, but this is so not a Green Day ***** fest thread.

No way. NO WAY.

I can tolerate those horrible live action anime adaptations like Dragon Ball because I don't really care, but I will riot in the streets if Keanu Reaves is called in to play Spike. No WAY is he the man for that job.

I could see maybe De Niro as Jet, or John Travolta as Spike, but Keanu Reaves has no business being anything in a Cowboy Bebop movie except a punching bag. He's just not cool enough. Also, there is that whole issue with the fact that the Bebop series has always had REALLY good actors. In fact, I wouldn't even call them mere "voice" actors, because they're just so far beyond the kind of acting you get in a typical English Dub.

If you don't believe me, watch episode one. Even the bit characters do an amazing job. Putting Keanu Reaves (a guy notorious for wooden acting) in a series as critically acclaimed as Cowboy Bebop is just retarded.

It'd be like making an animated version of Pulp Fiction, then calling the Naruto English Dub cast in to do the voices.

Travolta's too old and big to play Spike. De Niro could be a good Jet, but I think he could be a good just about anything. It might be wise to pull back and look at him as maybe not the best for the roll. Too old, and not quite the right feel for the character.

Also, it's nice to know I'm not the only who cares fuck all about the DBStupid movie coming out.

I've always thought Brad Pitt would make the best Spike. And even though he's black I think Samuel L. Jackson would be a killer Jet. Just my 'umble opinion though.

When I first heard the rumor a long time ago, I swore that if it was true I would form an angry mob. And now that it's confirmed, I plan on forming that angry mob. Who wants to join me?
I'm totally in.

I mean, what's next? Live action Samurai Jack with Rob Schneider cast as Jack? You've gotta be really trying in order to mess things up this bad with the casting.

The ONLY way the Bebop movie can be any good is if they scrap everything they have planned and get either Martin Scorcese or Tarantino to direct it. I'm convinced they'd at least treat the source material with respect.

I actually wouldn't mind Mr. Jackson as Jet at all, but I still stand by Travolta. Remember Vincent Vega? He had the exact same kind of "everyman" cool, relaxed attitude we've come to expect from Spike. Also, they were similar characters when you think about it.

I vote for Tom Cruise to play Vicious. Ever seen Collateral? Yeah, he wouldn't even have to learn a new role... the Vincent in that movie is pretty much Vicious with a little bit more humanity. Also, Mr. Cruise can really make gray/white hair look cool, and that's essential.

Sorry for the double post.

Also, Spike smokes way too much for today's audiences. They'd cut that way down , and it'd take something away from the feel.

I could see Travolta as Spike. And yeah, Tom Cruise would be a perfect Vicious.

Well, he looks a little like spike, so you can see why they chose him (If they've chosen him), but he lacks the voice, as has been said above. From what I know, Reeves has a rather gruff voice, which isn't really Spike. On any level. At all, really.

Oh well, it seems like the "book" phase of movies is over, and they're all turning to animations now! What with Neon Genesis Evangelion on the clock, with Dragonball and Avatar. And now this! What next; Ghost in the Shell? Seriously, I wonder how they're going to release these movies. They have to be dumb enough for the masses who are scared of anime to embrace, while not scaring off the anime-lovers who ussually have a strike for individualism. Tricky, and I'm not sure it can be done.

But at least the bebop film should be good; it's inspired heavily by America anyway. Love the jazz my friends, love the jazz...

While doing some light browsing I came across a interesting bit of information. Apparently 20th Century Fox has plans to create a Live-Action Cowboy Bebop Movie with Keanu Reeves to play Spike Speigel. Has anyone else heard about this? Also what do you think about this?

I'm not sure why something like this would even surface. Let alone why they would have him play the main role. I just don't see that happening. What would this move be about? What would they follow? It's just too much and a part of me hope it stays a rumor.
We had a dorm discussion about this, and it might be mediocre if they try really hard to stay close to the story. None of us can see Reeves as Spike.

Also, you know what's even worse? They're remaking Akira... with Leo Decaprio. Seriously. Though it's being remade frame for frame, so it might... be mediocre compared with the original.
Oh lord that is worse. But I think I have that beat. The Avatar Live Action Movie. Guess who's directing, writing and producing it.

I love Cowboy Bebop and Keanu but, this is a bad idea no matter how you look at it.

Don't forget that all the main characters have been cast with White Actors, and all the non-white actors have been cast as villains.

This movie is like a racial supremacists dream...
