When I first heard the rumor a long time ago, I swore that if it was true I would form an angry mob. And now that it's confirmed, I plan on forming that angry mob. Who wants to join me?

I'm in. Do you provide the pitchforks and torches, or is this one of those BYOP&T mobs?

I thought this was old news...Anyways from what I've read, a lot of attention is getting put on this movie and I actually have some hope that it will be good. I got the same initial reaction from Keanu that the rest of you did, but it's not impossible for him to play the role (he has a somewhat similar look and build, and can do the action). The fact is, is that we haven't seen him play a colorful character in a LONG time. So we all assume that all he can do is forms of 'Neo'. Now I'm not saying that this movie will be definitly good, but we shouldn't write it off so quickly...wait for the trailer to do that.

I'll be supplying some them for those that didn't bring any, but you're encouraged to bring something "a little bit stronger" than pitchforks and torches, if you catch my drift.

This whole 'live action movie' thing has been floating around FOREVER. So has the whole Keanu Reaves as Spike thing. I'll admit, I'm not a fan of Keanu and just hearing his name kind of makes me cringe, but as long as the rest of the line-up is made up of good actors I'll still go see it.

Psh. What am I saying? If it starred Paris Hilton, I'd go see it. Cowboy Bebop. Seriously.

And if hollywood screws it up, I'll just have to get my hands on a warhead or two.

Meh, there are worse castings that Keanu Reeves, as I have said before.

The movie shouldn't exist though... but it will likely be made, and it will likely not be good.

However I DO NOT think that Keanu would be the worst thing about this movie when so much more could be screwed up.

I'd be willing to bet good money that they won't even get Yokko Kanno to score the damned thing and without her, how can you POSSIBLY make a Cowboy Bebop movie.

They should probably cast a Corgie as Ein, but hollywood tends to favor Jack Russels.

But in all seriousness, here's a "dream cast" for Cowboy Bebop...
I'm going on the assumption that Talent is more important than looks.

Spike - Robert Downey Jr., he's a martial artist, he does wry humor very well and I REALLY can't think of anyone better.

Faye - Rosario Dawson or Carla Gugino, both hot, both great actresses. Gugino's got a better bust though.

Vicious - Christian Bale, because I think he'd pair well with Downey... also he's awesome.

No idea for Jet or Ed...

I heard about this a few months ago, while it could be good if done properly (that's a very BIG 'if' mind you) Keanu Reeves is not the man for the job.

I cite one of his early movies as evidence.

Dear Neo is the one on the right for those who can't recognize him.

This would be complete fail. There is not a single man on earth who can do Spike justice. Mind you Ron perlman would be perfect for Jet.

Ok, I think that at this point in his career, Keanu might be capable of fucking up a Bill & Ted sequel.

Also, no real dog could adequately portray Ein, and who the fuck are you going to find to play Ed? Spike, well, you could find a Spike, methinks, although it'd be a bit difficult. But to get the random whimsy of Ed without seeming forced or contrived? HA!

Also, I will pistol whip the next person to say shenanigans.

I think Bebop would make a great movie, but then again I also think Constantine would make a good movie if they did it properly. By properly I mean 'without Keanu Reeves'.

While doing some light browsing I came across a interesting bit of information. Apparently 20th Century Fox has plans to create a Live-Action Cowboy Bebop Movie with Keanu Reeves to play Spike Speigel. Has anyone else heard about this? Also what do you think about this?

I'm not sure why something like this would even surface. Let alone why they would have him play the main role. I just don't see that happening. What would this move be about? What would they follow? It's just too much and a part of me hope it stays a rumor.
We had a dorm discussion about this, and it might be mediocre if they try really hard to stay close to the story. None of us can see Reeves as Spike.

Also, you know what's even worse? They're remaking Akira... with Leo Decaprio. Seriously. Though it's being remade frame for frame, so it might... be mediocre compared with the original.

Leonardo DiShittio is in desperate need of a round to his acting career's forehead. Man pisses me off royally every time I see him. I just avoid movies with him in them now.

But the question is, other than a desire to make us hate them even more while simultaneously draining or wallets, why the need to convert existing material to live action? Is there such a dearth of creativity in Hollywood that all that's left is to plunder popular sub-culture?

Some books beg to have movies made of them; some are written for the purpose. Other things should be left alone. Why not come up with a fairly original idea? Even if it's all been done before, we still find decent ways to stir it up once in a while, you know?

Ah, shit, perhaps I'm just a bit jaded. I think it might be all the sequels and fucking up of good things, you know? Day The Earth Stood Still? Shitty remake, even without taking Keanu into account. Classic movie not in need of a remake, you know? There already was a Bebop movie. Why translate and butcher it like this? Cheaper to make another animated one, and we'll all go apeshit over it, you know?
