No one seriously belives that. We all know that Earth is a flat disc on back of 4 elephants standing on back of giant trutle.
But what is the turtle standing on?
It swims freely in the void. [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Literature/Discworld?from=Main.Discworld]

I was fishing for "Turtles, all the way down." but your answer is good too.

I think it would be better if they didn't get laid, that way they won't spread their stupidity to the next generation.

OT: Anything Jim Corr says, he may be right about some things, but the evidence he comes up never sensibly points to anything he concludes from it.
He lived less than a mile away from me for a while, hopefully his insanity hasn't washed off on me.

You're probably too into your "insufferable atheist" stage of atheism to notice BUT, the long, drawn-out analogy you are using to express that you are talking about god has been used to death. Find a new gimmick.
I'll say the same thing of Atheism I do of cynicism. "I am [atheist], but at least but at least I'm not a dick about it."

OT: Probably that the Holocaust didn't happen, or that the muppets are communists.

Okay, how about an invisible skywizard that is his own son, that sacrificed himself, to himself, to prevent that all the people he made, didn't automatically go straight to hell, without collecting their 200$, even if passing Start.

A person should be allowed to believe or not believe what ever they chose, isn't that eveyone's right?
Oh, of course. This argument becomes difficult to defend, though, when motherlodes of historical and/or scientific facts contribute to the reality of the aspect that's being debated.

I.E. the Holocaust. Six million Jews died. There's been testimonies, statistics, museums, books, art displays, sociopolitical movements and more, all spawned by or thanks to the Shoah. In the face of something that's incredibly hard to disprove, choosing not to believe in it doesn't make you a free thinker or a beautiful and unique snowflake - especially not in the case where doubting of this can be seen as horribly offensive - it just makes a complete ass out of you.

Just ask Mahmud Ahmadinejad.

On the other hand, when the arguments in favour of something are murky at best or leave some solid ground for reasonable doubt (I.E. God's debatable existence, Nibiru or the 2012 craze), then you're absolutely within your rights not to believe.

Still, if out of some mind-boggling and successful turn of historical observation, the Holocaust was ever *seriously* disproved in such a way as to make historians the world over scratch their heads, then the scientific doctrine commands that we review our assumptions.

That's just highly unlikely, though. Nay, impossible.

wow, second comment and we already have smart mouthed anti religious statements.

Stay classy escapist.

Anyway, the stupidest conspiracy theory I've ever heard is both 2012 and the 911 conspiracy even though simple logic and a trip to the library can disprove both.

Why do you feel the need to mock religion so viciously? Your an asshole, and I am calling you out on it. You give atheists a bad name. Please stop.

There are lot of atheists on these forums... All these comments about religion and not a single "But God is real!" comment. Love it. We need to get rid of all religions of the world. I want my children to grow up in a world that's not stupid.

I had a guy at my uni whole fully believed in Time Cube, and if you didn't believe in it you just weren't intelligent enough basically.

Unfortunately he travelled to America to meet the founder of the movement, who told him he was crazy and hurting the cause. So after he got back to Aus he killed himself by throwing himself in front of a train...

Somehow my respect for Time Cube went down even further after that.

so living in a world full of bigots is ok? you know, when you act like that, you make atheist look MORE blind than most religious people.

Seriously, what is wrong with you people? For being on the same site that praises it self for being logical and sensible you people sure are allowing illogical people spewing straight up hate speech to run amok.

But on another note the theory that the jews run the world is stupid. Why does everyone hate jews?

Then i guess that guy going twenty on the freeway, the asshole who stole beer from our store, daytime television, suicide, EA's marketing, mental illness, racism and atheists who genuinely believe that Humanity is a god is all caused by religion, and most certainly not from alcoholism, poor programming, crappy marketing choices, genetics, social inequality mixed with human psychology and blatant disregard for the principles of the group you think you're a part of. Respectively.

If you want the world to stop being stupid, you need to eliminate everything with the capacity to think. That's right. Total human genocide. Not the elimination of religion - the elimination of thoughts.

Good luck with that.

Truthism. Or whatever it's called. The one with the ancient alien reptiles who have controlled the entire world through the Illuminati or something. I think there was also something about dimensions we can't see and I know there was some misogyny thrown in there as well. Of course, I'm sure it's a troll site, but still.

There are a couple that take the cake for me:

1) The US government was behind 9/11 - Now, I haven't done any research on this or scrutinized the evidence unitl the scrutinizing department of my brain had to take a day off, but the whole idea is just bloody ridiculous. The US government is hardly a paragon of virtue, but they are also not film/video game/comic book villains intent on bringing in the new world order.

2) Jews control the US/the economy/the western world - This is just bucketloads of bigoted bullshit.

Also i'm an atheist so I guess . . .

3) *insert mandatory atheist rage against the heavens here*

EDIT: Oh god, I read about one paragraph of that Timecube thing and was just like "Fuck. That"

No offense but Theists need to get something better then "You can't disprove it" as well.

OT: Pretty much everything that people say without even a tiny bit of proof. Whether it be 2012 or religion it just gets people worked up for no reason. Seriously next time something like the end of the world doesn't happen we all should get to slap whoever decided it would.
It's no offense to me because despite your assumption that I'm a theist, I'm actually not. When theists say "You can't disprove it" it's not to mock the belief's of others, it's just a flimsy argument that doesn't seek to offend anyone; when atheists on the other hand use the immature "invisible etc etc" analogy it just makes atheists look like 13 year olds on XBL.
