Pretty sure "colour" was originally spelled "colour" - not "color." ;)

Not sure what it's like for you, but where I live (Canada), ketchup is very different tasting compared to tomato sauce.

I wouldn't want to dip fries in tomato sauce; fortunately, ketchup isn't the same.

If you think that ketchup and tomato sauce taste the same, I'd question the condition of your taste buds, my good sir.

mmmmmmm cheese curds but seriously why do you wonder how we live just because your country has something we don't have. On the other hand I hate how everyone uses Canada as this shining example of universal health care. Their system has problems too.

Also, tomato sauce does not in any way shape or form equal ketchup.
Here in Australia, what you call ketchup, we call tomato sauce.
You have no Brown Sauce, presumably no barbecue sauce, and almost definitely no HP sauce.

The problem is, sauce can be a condiment or a part of a dish. I make tomato sauce to go on my pasta out of tomatoes, wine, onions and herbs. I also use tomato sauce from a bottle in the same way you use ketchup.

Mustard and mint jelly are both condiments and are not runny. (Runny mustard isn't mustard. Mustard comes in jars, not bottles.)
Brow sauce = Gravy (Only cuz I'm not Italian)
BBQ sauce is still BBQ sauce

I do not know if we have an HP equivalent... oh wait... that's sexist!!!!!

We have A1 (steak) sauce.
1. I hope you're joking about the sexism.

2. Gravy is nothing like Brown Sauce. Brown Sauce is more like BBQ Sauce than Gravy.

A1 is probably closer to brown sauce than gravy. Assuming it's the same as the steak sauce we have here.

what exactly is a cheese curd? cause i always wanted to try poutine but i never had the chance and was hoping to make some and then promptly trow it out because it may be disgusting.
taste like mozzarella/provolone cheese but it has a more rubbery surface than regular mozzarella. As an American it tasted good but anything larger than a regular size is sickening

We have most of those things in Australia...

Probably should read up on these "crazy" canadian things to see if they exist elsewhere before making a post...

Just to clear things up with the world. Soccer is soccer, football is football is AFL. Also dropbears are as bad as the possums.

I looked up HP sauce.... do you know what it stands for? House of Parliment? OR 'Husband Pleasing Steak Sauce!' (That was one of their ad campaigns, some years ago supposedly.)

Yeah, kinda just havin fun with this thread. It's interesting too. I am wearing my ignorance honestly, but still havin some fun.

Roast beef.

MmmMMMmmmm Roast Beef.

That calls for a brown gravy
Yeah, Houses of Parliament Sauce. Good guess.

I trolled my sister when we were little and told her it was Harry Potter Sauce. :)

I don't know if she's aware of the real name yet.

Curiosity's got me. I've got to ask: what does the Old Testament have to do with this?
Just because people started one way (animal sacrifice in the Old Testament) doesn't mean we still should still honor it (spelling of a word)

Yeah... I had nothin, it was a feeble stretch on my part ; )
Was that on purpose. "[...]still honor it" when discussing spelling conventions. Because we spell it honour

Actually, tomato sauce does equal ketchup.

Top line:

This article is about the sauces often used with pasta or pizza. In some countries, "tomato sauce" can also refer to ketchup.

Haha I see. Initially, I was just wondering if you actually believed that their was an objectively true way to spell the word (with regard to the American and British way, obviously).

-'usually to be served as part of a dish (rather than as a condiment).'-

First line of the article...

I think the distinction is in the word condiment, and peoples use of it.

Ketchup, is a condiment.
I meant the italics at the top, man. You know the thing I quoted? In Australia, we refer to ketchup as tomato sauce. That's what I'm trying to get across here.

No I've never heard of ketchup fries (weird considering I'm from Pittsburgh where Heinz ketchup is made) also milk in a bag? But wouldn't it be susceptible to bursting? Bags aren't the best things to keep a liquid in.

*Not dissing anyone's customs, I'm just curious*

Never heard of poutine until I went to canada earlier this year
