ce2 was very badly unoptimized, there are several mods out there that make the game run much better without any visual hits, similar to the operation optimization mod for oblivion. if ce3 is better optimized than it might have lower requirements than crysis.
This.
Since Crysis 2 is coming to consoles as well, it's likely that the requirements for Crysis 2 is equal or lower than that of the first Crysis. Otherwise, it's unlikely to be able run at 720p on any console.

Seriously, they should just sell a computer with the game because anyone who wants to play this is going to end up spending some serious cash just to run it on normal. If you want to play it smoothly on high detail, you will have to wait for the technology to catch up. That should take only 5 or 6 years.
It took only 18 or so months for medium~high grade gaming computers to be able to run Crysis on max, and that's without the optimization mods. I'm fairly certain that Crytek said at GDC09 that CryEngine 3 is much better optimized compared to CE2 and can scale to insane amounts (as in, function on machines as shitty as the Wii and still push crazy gaming PC rigs). And more recently there's been hints that Crysis 2 will need less stuff than Crysis did.

Yep, they're clearly planning to sell like 3 copies worldwide, about that many people will have a computer that can run it.

I think the pictures need more bloom and antialiasing. Because for $3000 I might be able to play that game, and that would hardly live up to crysis 1. (Side note, I have yet to find a computer that doesnt crash when I try to play crysis 1, since they all die on its graphics.)

sweet :D i like how they went urban instead of jungle, it will definitely help with the framerate.

What's the use of a game that nobody can play full graphics when it is released anyway? Don't get me wrong *drools*, but isn't that just boxing yourself in into a niche market?

Still, I think more developers should do that stuff, just for kicks. Advanced graphics are awesome.
well.. they know they are going to sell that thing to all the ones that can run it,so they know those are sold!

a little niche, but perfect market, of 1000 people that can run it, those 1000 will buy it

these caps have some unholy anti-alising. definitely pre-rendered. if not we need 10ghz cpus.
There isn't a rig alive that can anti-alias Crysis at 16x+ (Actually these shots look more like multisampling to my eye) at much above 4 fps. These grabs need to be taken with 1-2 grains of salt.

Whoopdee doo, another game from Crytek.

Sure, they're good at coding an engine, but they are absolutely TERRIBLE at making a game with coherent gameplay. Both Far Cry 1 and Crysis suffered from the exact same problem, They started out with a decent enough idea for a game and then completely cocked it all up by removing everything that made the game at least a little fun, and replacing it with one giant you vs weird looking thingies shooter gameplay. Sure Far Cry/Crysis let you have a toy of some sort that did all sorts of neat stuff, and they give you a few opportunities to get creative and try different combinations and ideas, but then they take it all away and replace it with mutants/aliens that you can't do anything to besides just shoot a lot. Crytek has proven that it is incapable of learning from its mistakes, and unless everyone comes back from playing Crysis 2 saying "holy god, they fixed it," then I'm not interested. At the most I'll just use the demo, if there is one, as a benchmarking tool and that's it.

Cool rant, Hansel.
That's very subjective, I personally think Farcry and Crysis were great. Top-notch graphics (obviously), tactical gameplay (heaps of ways to approach all situations) and well, storyline's always a bit standard sci-fi but come on, it's an FPS - not an in-depth adventure//RPG. I think you're hating on Crytek for some pretty petty reasons, they continually push the envelope for certain areas on the market and you're bitching because they don't adhere to your strict 'no-aliens' contingent. That's like getting angry at Tarantino for introducing vampires in Dusk till Dawn, it's Cryteks style... deal with it?

Pretttyyyy sure that it's just promo art. Shame. I heard they're actually looking backwards for their new game style with Crysis 2.

Are we looking at the graphics here? Sure it looks nice, it probably won't run on my PC though so I dislike it already. Please stop focussing on the graphics and work on the AI.

My guess, in game scenes, with special rendering parameters added to make the game look amazing, crysis 2 will look amazing, just not THAT amazing.
