The Rocky Horror Picture Show would be my pick as well. I mean, if you just sit down and watch it, by yourself, it's hard to recommend.Pararaptor said:How dare you.The Rockerfly said:I despise The Rocky Horror Picture Show, it just annoys me and half the followers are really annoying girls who want a gay best friend. On the contrary, I find most SNES RPGs gobsmackingly boring, including Chrono Trigger, Breath of Fire... to the point where I feel absolutely no drive to continue playing them whatsoever. Earthbound and Super Mario RPG are games that captivate me, however. They feel like they have a lot more soul, while other RPGs feel hollow and devoid of character in comparison.PopeJewish said:Earthbound
I couldn't get into it when I was kid, I can't get into it now. Fact is there were simply better RPGs at the time
So I'm wondering what exactly you think is so bad about it?AverageJoe said:or are looking back through rose tinted glasses and refusing to see how bad it is now.
So yeah, I am going to go with Deus Ex as well.
But age has little to do with it. FF7 could be 100 years old and not be a cult classic since it is/was the epitome of a commercial and critical success. There are a lot of people that don't like it but it is undeniable that it is massively popular and therefore doesn't fit the cult criteria.Aylaine said:I don't think it sucks, but it's definitely not gods gift like people make it out to be so it would have to be my nomination too. Though, in retrospect, it's not old enough to be a cult classic in my opinion. xDJulianking93 said:Final Fantasy 7.

Totally agree... I hate that game more than any other. (Even if it isn't a cult classic, I still hate it.)Julianking93 said:Final Fantasy 7.

Yeah but, just because it has a lot of good ideas in one game does not make it automatically good unless the ideas are executed well together. And comparing it to today's standards, they are really not. Absolutely every aspect of the game feels clunky, unintuitive, unsatisfying or a combination of the three. At least it did to me.
If you like it, okay great, lucky you. I wish I could have liked it, I did buy it on Steam afterall and its now another game I'm never going to touch again.
But ask yourself, if Deus Ex was never released back in 2000, and instead came out TODAY (with current gen graphics and all that jazz, but the exact SAME gameplay as you know from the game) would it be well received, or even seen as a cult classic and remembered 10 years from now? I'm going to be honest and say I think it would get 5/10 scores pretty much universally and generally be seen as a mess of a game by the gaming community at large.
This guy is essentially me.mrflopster said:I'd have to say Fallout 3 because it's just an ugly Oblivion with guns and a rubbish ending. ICO because it's all style and no substance, and every Metal Gear game since the one on Playstation 1 because they are so long winded with pompous, overly long storytelling and until the PS3 game they all had awful controls. I know most of these games are kinda new but are often (incorrectly) referred to as classics.... I feel better now.
Torment pissed me off as well, I have to admit. While it did have some interesting dialogue and backstory, 70% of it was just verbal diarrhea. Also, here's a scenario. I walk around in town, in an alley, some thieves show up and ask me for my money, I answer "No", they attack me, I kill them. Suddenly this whole part of town is aggressive and attacks me on sight forever. I look this part up online for the first time. I see this: If you agree and give the thieves your money the area is friendly and you can do a massive number of quests in there before finally killing them all. These quests give you the necessary experience to move further into some dungeon. Well, fuck that I think, I'll just skip to the dungeon. I go there and get INSTARAPED. Ok, so what can I do to advance my character now? Nothing. I'm fucked. Ok, granted, Torment had probably the most options to approach a situation than any other RPG, but what's the point when some of them break the game? And not some obscure ones, but the NATURAL thing one would do, that is to refuse being robbed by thieves? I uninstalled the game right there, not for me.Eponet said:Planescape: Torment kind of bored me between hours 2 and 10. I could not get out of the Hive!. Yeah, agreed. So, the game is clunky, and it looks terrible and sounds terrible too (not that those last two really matter or are anything to do with my opinion of the game personally), but it's good because... you can change things? and there are choices? You can change things in a lot of games these days, perhaps not to the extent that things can be changed in Deus Ex (I wouldn't know, I didn't subject myself through enough of the game to really be able to argue that at this point) and many games now have choices which effect the way the game plays out... But even disregarding all that and saying that Deus Ex does indeed succeed in this area even by today's standards, the game still plays terribly, and is an unintuitive and clunky mess, so how is it a good game?ilion said:poor graphics yeah, clunky gameplay, some terrible voice acting, but it gives you the choice...

For one, XIII is nowhere near a cult classic. Having played it on the PC, I loved it, despite its quite poor gameplay which it made up for by giving me a story that was bloody compelling. Pity it wasn't a commercial success, the game set up a sequel PERFECTLY with a cliffhanger ending.Altorin said:I liked XIII, but I didn't play it long... I didn't make it past the beach hut, I was that bored.
In regards FFX-2, in theory, it was a decent game. The dress-sphere grids were cool. I think people just had a really bad reaction against Yuna and her pining after Tidus.
