Xenosaga on the PS2. Damn I loved that game and it's story too, the anime based on it is actually pretty good at that. But geez, how bloody long do cutscenes need to be? I remember having to get up and grab a snack during some of them they were so long. In the end I just ended up downloading a compilation of all the movies someone had hacked out of the game so I could watch them on a proper media player that lets me pause, fast forward, skip parts, etc.

The Darkness
Maybe I'm OCD but the lip scyncing for jakie and a few other character was horrendous. There were some scenes where jakies lips wouldn't even move, yet he was talking to another character. The other character though had no trouble opening his mouth to actually show some form of emotion other than a sad attempt at sounding like a young godfather.

The scenes were powerful with their dialogue, but L2 animate geeze

Wasn't it supposed to be ridiculous?

Anyway...

I'd have to say Rogue Galaxy. The game itself is bad enough but every single cutscene was teeth-grindingly abysmal.
Fuck you, the game was great, it's like watching a disney film, might be for children but better than the other shit this day have.
Already commented on this game, but what the hell.

The game play was neat, a DarkCloud RPG more or less, but good lord the story...I knew what was going to happen with every single plot point the second they were introduced.
It's not because it was predictable it's because I've seen the exact same stories in countless movies and books, I swear 90% of that dialog was copy pasted as well.

And for something different, DarkCloud 2.
"So if we do X, Y happens.
Wait so we can do X to make Y happen?
Yeah, just do X and Y will happen."

I get it already! Good Greef let me go back to dungeon romping, pleeeeeease.

FFVII, aka "EVERYONE PAY ATTENTION TO CLOUD NOW!"
Also, Ramirez's Silver Eclipse attack in Skies of Arcadia: Legends is nifty the first time, however, when he uses this 30 second unskippable cutscene attack say 8 times it gets kinda painful.
Yes. Yes. The animations for the ship-to-ship battles in Legends are so long, you can LITERALLY go make yourself a sandwich or use the bathroom in one full turn (the gap in between when you give the orders, and when you can actually press buttons and have them work again.) Ramirez's attack was annoying, but I think the ship battles beat it. The thing is, I kind of liked how long they were, because I could plan to go do something else every turn.

I'll second Rogue Galaxy. Those cutscenes are pure pain for anyone who's ever played a game with a decent story or writing. Comparing the plot of Rogue Galaxy to Xenogears or Silent Hill 2 is like comparing Jack Thompson/Al Gore to Jesus. I still like playing the actual game, but those cutscenes probably shaved a few points off my mental ?/10 rating, right there.

I'll also agree that Okami has way too much dialogue, and FAR too many un-skippable cutscenes. Yeah, I know about the "fix" you earn for that MUCH later on, but it's just too little, too late. And the dialogue itself is quite poorly written and full of redundancies.

any long unskipable scene before a really hard boss fight
I agree.

Oh, what was that game now. . . . "Arc the Lad" for the PS2 (I believe it was the third game in the series). There are a literal thirty minutes of dialogue, cutscenes, and 'important battles' between the save point and the final boss. This boss could take out the entire party in two hits or one beam attack when you first come across it.

In reply to other posts, I enjoyed "Skies of Arcadia" considerably and never had a problem with the cutscenes (one exception to a certain attack that blinded me.)

Assassin's Creed. Yeah, it was a decent game, but Ubisoft Montreal killed any replay value by making the long-winded cutscenes unskippable. And Altair is a terrible, terrible voice actor.
think other things in the game made replaying it out of the question
I thought playing past the first city more or less was replaying the game.
So true. I doubt that there are fanboys HC enough to play Assassin's Creed the second time with out going brain dead.
I played it again in the sense that i went back into the missions so i could collect the flags. IDK ive got a thing for agility orbs, flags, you get the picture. I did like the game anyway.

Final Cutscene in Crysis
My computer is so bad it was hardly worth playing the game, incredibly slow and amazingly bad graphic (no that i ever care about graphics) (except for PS1, i could never understand what as happening with those graphics).
Possible Spoiler!!!

Anyway, i got to the aircraft carrier and destroyed that big alien thing, got on the VTOL (plane thing) when all of a sudden "Profit is alive" (Gasp!). I'm waitin to keep playing when suddenly credits start rolling...WTF???
That cutscene ruined that average game

Here comes yet another mention of Metal Gear Solid...

The MGS series has some of the worst storytelling in gaming history, and that's saying something. Sure, Resident Evil games have awful dialogue and plots that actually feel like they're written by a brainless zombie, but at least RE keeps it brief.

Metal Gear cutscenes are painful. I'm not going to go into detail because, like 75% of the "plot" in these games, it's unnecessary. The best example I can give is the cutscenes and codec calls that precede the final boss fight. Altogether they're well over 20 minutes long. That's ridiculous. It's one thing to have a cutscene last so long that the gamer decides to set the controller down for a few minutes, it's another when the gamer can cook dinner during a cutscene.
Lol, personal opinion.
Seeing as how it is one of the Play Stations most successful you couldn't say everyone agrees with you

I like the MGS3 ones because they're action-packed, full of real-world martial arts and showcase the great graphics. The Codecs, however...

Xenosaga. Never played it but as I understand, 2/3rds of the game is cutscene.
but the cutscenes could be good. play it first. I've been meaning to, but I can't find a copy of the first game in the series at my gamestop...and I'm too lazy to buy it online.

mass effect, the 1 cut scene just before you go into the tunnels where you are going to save the blue alien chick who joins your team. You walk up then it goes into a cut scene where a bunch of enemy ships land unpack walk over towards you (all while you characters stands still, not walking or hiding) then the cut scene ends with you standing right in the open with 5 snipers a few rocket launchers a couple of a assault droids and even a fricken tank all right there staring at you 5 meters away with the nearest cover 10 meters away......

also less of cut scenes and more of character dialog but seriously I face palmed so many times at what the character said in mass effect. Walk into a bar to meet a undercover bar maid go up and option says "I hear you need help" your character says "I hear your working undercover for the police to help route out crime in this bar" (very loudly, in a fricken crowded bar.... someone needs to be shot for making my character seem so stupid).

Condemned 2. Definately, I nearly turned it off during the opening sequence. Just something about the animation really really bothers me. and its not like a 'it bothers me in a creepy/scared' kinda way, it was more like 'This looks really half assed'

Everyone will say an MGS game, because they're known for cutscenes. However, I will say Eternal Sonata. While I loved the game, the cutscenes were ridiculous. I wanted to get into the story, but every time you go to either a new area, or meet someone, you have to sit there for 20 minutes enduring the : "You're in my dreams so I know what you're thinking" crap. Really, the length of cutscenes actually did outweigh the entire game.
