That's because it IS devil worship along with the radio, rock n roll, drinking, and television.

Well, she obviously has a few screws loose...That was not a Christian way to approach the situation and she needs to take a serious look at her life and actually do some research...

I am a Christian myself...Born and raised in the church...And actually I thought D&D always looked like an interesting and fun game...I just never had anyone to actually play it with...And I honestly don't know anyone who still thinks that it is "devil worship" anymore...

I guess you just had the luck of running into one of those people who try to use Christianity as an excuse to act better than everyone else...And I'd like to say I'm sorry that this happened...It may not mean much to you coming from a random stranger on the internet, but I do not agree with how this "Christian" acted at all...
I'll play with you. i am looking to start a new campaign. I;ll need a new figure though... my level 12 warmage can't just go running around as a bottle cap...
And, of course, i thank you for your valid opinion.

Speaking as a Catholic, I can safely say that the Church has no stance on Dungeons & Dragons. The only Christians that think it is evil are radical fundamentalists, and no one really likes them. Take it from me, D&D is not evil, and anyone who thinks it is evil is probably an ignorant non-gamer/gamer hater.

[small]*no offense intended to religious fundamentalists out there, but you guys really do need to chill out*[/small]

I'm a Christian and I enjoy the good 'ol D&D every once an awhile when there's time.

Ignore her. Too many of them already give us a bad name as it is.

Remember kiddies, use of the imagination is a very, VERY bad thing. And heretical.

yes, but at least he is having fun and enjoying himself. An experience not commonly shared by the person to whom was referring. I does not matter what you are doing, as long as you enjoy it. You could be making 3,000 dollars an hour at a job you hate, and you would be wasting your time, as opposed to making 15 dollars an hour at something you love. If D adn D is what you love, no matter how much time you spend battleing imaginary monsters, it will never be a waste of time.

It's true. Your children, like it or not, are attracted in their weaker years to the occult. And a game like D&D fuels their imagination and makes them feel "Special" while drawing them deeper and deeper into the bowels of EL DIABLO.
D and D isn't even meant for kids, i mean, there is a lot of complex reading involved. And, if that is a concern, then video games are the same kinda thing, which begs the question: why are you on a video games websites forum?
woosh.

I don't think that would work very well...I don't know much about D&D and distance gap would be to great...your location says Ottawa and I'm near the center of Indiana...But thanks for the offer...I'm sure I can find somepeople here at Purdue once I get some free time on my hands...

Just remind the Christian Club that only a select few groups of people get to influence their will onto others. One such group contains dictators, who in their mind are always right and usually lead their countries down a road of destitution and hardships. The other group are people with free time. If you really love Jesus that much go out and feed the poor, volunteer in your community, make a difference. If Jesus were around today I do not believe he would stop performing a miracles to walk over to ruin someones good time. Why wouldn't he do this? Well for one he was about understanding. Two he would actually have people listening to him so he wouldn't have time to bully people (unlike this christian club, seriously if people cared about who they were or what they did then they wouldn't have to rely on cheap gimmicks for attention). Three, Jesus would know that your aren't worshiping the gods from the many pantheons in the realms but rather doing something more akin to acting.

We used to play D&D extensively on Scout camping trips. However, the church we were based out of told us we had to stop becasue it was devil worship. Of course, that certainly didn't stop us. Ironically, and no offense Macgyvercas, but the church was Catholic. I'm not saying that all Catholic churches are anti-D&D, but ours certainly was. It is silly though, since it is a fictional game and doesn't necessarily represent the ideologies of the persons playing it. I'm certainly not a katana wielding Drow warlord (even though I would like to be, so that basically negates what I said about it not representing ideologies.)

Now, some rules, this is NOT to turn into a discussion about how ALL Christians are wacko's just the nutty ones. And also, i would like to hear some INTELLIGENT conversation about whether or not her point has any merit. Lets try to stay civil here people (i know she certainly didn't, not when she stomped on my mage figurine) What is your best or worst experience playing D and D too (this was my second worst)
You could try an argument of X degrees of separation on her. Dungeon and Dragons -> Lord of the Rings -> J.R.R Tolkien -> C.S. Lewis. C.S Lewis is highly regarded in the Christian community for both his literature and thoughts on Christian Theology. The two authors were actually very close friends and it was Tolkien who helped convert Lewis to Christianity. Both of their fictional works were heavily steeped in fantastical elements, all be it often times allegories for Christian beliefs though. I guarantee that Lewis's 'Mere Christianity' has turned more people on to that religion then her methods ever will.

...*facepalm*
I'm literally speechless.
How do people raise their children this stupid?
If she shows up again, either A) ignore her or B) pick up the game and move it somewhere else. I've had it happen to me before and they will go away if you don't pay attention. She's probably been brainwashed by her parents into believing that shit, there's no point in arguing with her.
*wanders away, muttering* I mean c'mon, I was raised Christian and my parents didn't like me playing D&D, but at least they didn't think it was devil worship. [sup]They just thought I'd get addicted. They were right, but that's beside the point. I still get most of my work done![/sup]

I've never played D+D I was referinng to sanctimonius Christian evangelicals in general.
