I also don't like it when people abbreviate Gears of War 1/2 as GoW.

GoW=God of War (came first, too)

Gears=Gears of War

Boo-hoo, everyone does that. GoW 2 = Gears of War 2.

And everyone is wrong, the God of War series has always been known as GoW. Its simple and easy, because calling the series "God" or "of" or "War" would just be horrendously stupid. But "Gears" is quite a good nickname that can't be misread as another game series. At least none that I can't think of.

Same in mine, the principle apparently thought that a game with yellow electric mice was, "promoting violence that can be easily imitated"

Many kids who grew up when pokemon was highly popular were either irritated or amused when parents, teachers, or any grown up pronounced "Pokemon" as "Pokeman"

With this in mind, I ask, what other odd "naming errors" or descriptions have you heard from people who aren't familiar with the particular product?

Examples: "Xboxcube" or "that game with the Zelda sword guy"

I think parents do that to try and be ironic or something. I know for a fact my parents knew the correct pronunciation of the game because when I was younger they watched the show with me (one television).

Old people aren't as stupid as they make off to be (most times) it just is that if the government ever found out that old people are competent they might get rid of social security .

I always hated when playing final fantasy 10 when I was looking for a save spot and my parents were pressuring me to get off the game, I would tell them I need to get to a save spot, they would say "this is a perfectly good save spot now shut off the game"

My friends dad used to say "Sure I've heard that one before."

To which I always wanted to respond "Yeah he has to find a save spot...again...you know why? Because anytime he wants to get off the game he needs to save the fucking thing. I hope your stupid doesn't wear off on him."

It always irritated me when people pronounced it Pokeymon.

That's kinda the way it is pronounced because you spell it "Pokémon", that little slash above the "e" makes it an "ey" if you try to type it without IPA.

My mum got Resistance 2 and RE5 confused. (???) She told me they had it on a deal with a PS3.
And she was talking about a game I play to her friend-can't remember which game it was-but she kept mispronouncing it, even though I just told her 5 seconds ago.
Perhaps she was doing it on purpose; it really pissed me off..

I feel like a very lucky person after reading some of these. My parents grew up in the 80's so I had a good start. Even my grandmother who, as far a I know, has never played a video game since the first Atari, calls any system a 'console'. It makes me proud that even though she doesn't know the names of them, she knows they are different and doesn't try to lump them all together.
