"Good to see you showing some mercy, Miss. I'm sure a drink will make him feel much better for his time spent languishing in the cells. If you want to punish the man, then truly you are as low as him. The path to God lies in love and mercy for your foes, not merely copying their deeds with anger and revenge. Think well on that!"

With that he turned and stalked out of the bar and into the night in cold fury. However, once he entered his house he slammed the door, and nearly collapsed from despair. How could such a good woman have sunken to petty revenge? Such things were for lower people than her.

He tried to calm himself, and prayed fervently for several minutes. Afterwards, he considered the events in the bar. Thank God the others had come. He had tried so hard to leave the violence of his old life behind, and learn the ways of God and love, but wasn't sure if, once he had begun to fight, he would have been able to avoid killing Jeff.

He shivered, and decided it was too early to sleep. So he went back to the town and returned to the crowed to give Ace his last rights.

Amy stood, pulling her blade away from Jeff's neck. Placing it on the bar counter, she began pouring a set of glasses. "And I expect compensation for the damage done to my roof by Mr. Edward here."
"Crap" he said to himself "I almost forgot about that." Searching his clothes for money he pulled out a dollar, much more then he expected to pull out and more then enough for the one hole in the roof but then again it was'nt as if he organised his money anyways.
"Here whatevers left over from this I'll take in drinks."
Hoping the extra business would get him in good graces with the town.... but then again well whatever they thought could be dealt with some other day right now Edward felt like he had to get something to drink.

Drummond stepped inside the tavern and holstered his pistol.
"Sure thing, little lady. Give me a shot of that sipping whiskey and this young man..." he slammed his hand down on Jeff's shoulder, "...will have some time to think about how he treats women. If you're lucky..." he turned to look down at Jeff "...I might let you out."

The beleaguered sheriff pulled up an unturned stool and sat down at the bar as the impertinent young cleric left the bar. He turned back towards Jeff and stared him straight in the eyes;

"And don't think of running, boy, you ain't got nowhere to go."

John was wiping blood from his face. John watched as Drummond took a swig from his whisky. After the fight John nearly forgot that about the horses. "Sheriff i know your proably busy but there is another problem. I wondered into the stables by accident and found all the horses slaughtered. I can so where the bodies are." The sheriff just stared at John and said "just let me finsih my drink"

Amy sniffed, rubbing at the place where Jeff's rock had connected with her skull. "Slaughtered? Wouldn't surprise me. Not a day has passed and the town's already gone to Hell."

She stared at the doors, after the angered priest. "Perhaps the night's events had just gotten to him... even God repays evils. Reap what you sow and all that."

Sighing, she slammed back a shot of whiskey, pouring the sheriff one last. Placing her forehead against her forearm, she felt tears rising once more.
"...because if you haven't noticed this town is built off of the tension between the bar and the church. A barkeep dead leaves a hole in this very important void. I asked because this town needs someone to look to and NOT all of us want to follow this fagot"
Amy let the tears run free, slamming the glass viciously against the table in a shower of shattered glass. The fresh cuts on her hands seemed not to phase her; she allowed her flood of emotions to flow before these two near-strangers. "I can't do it, Ace! I'm not you!" she whispered through the tears, clenching her bloodied fist in frustration.

Jeff nodded at Amy in thanks for the final drink. He sipped a little but not much. He watched as the bar flooded with people and muttered to himself that he thought this place was closed. He was appreciative to the priest for helping him get his drink and then started to chuckle.

He chuckled about the priest and his god loving ways. He chuckled about the sheriff trying to act like he had control of the situation. And he chuckled about Amy crying.

Taking one hand of his mug he reached down and started to search for something. Picking the glass up again he laughed just a little bit more as he pulled a single match out and hid it in left hand. Re picking up the whiskey with his right had he silently apologized as he splashed the whiskey onto Amy's body and immediately following lit the match and tossed it Amy's now whiskey covered face, and attempted to run for the door...

If I PM you and tell you something about the story (A player quitting perhaps?) please do not go spreading it into the thread. Let me do my job, and let me do it. ThreeWords I understand you wanted to start some tension but next time please PM something like that to the single person. I wanted this to be a surprise =[

Note: I edited the post a tiny smidgen

Seriously?

You asshole. That's just uncool.

And just so you know, she was facedown... so the only place the whiskey could have gone was her hair. I shall be exploiting it now.

Oh, and whoever our antagonist is, I hate him now.

In a friendly way.

:D

Amy screamed in terror as she felt heat blaze through her hair. Thrusting her face upwards, she saw Jeff rushing for the door. She screamed "BASTARD!!" In a move of desperation, she snatched the knife from the table, flinging it blindly at Jeff's back before rushing out the front door of the bar.

Throwing herself upon the ground, she desperately rolled in the dirt, attempting to put out the blaze.

The girls hair was on fire now and it was a scary sight. To any onlookers all they would see was an avatar of vengence complete with flaming hair and angry face.
Finishing his drink Edward decided to slip out before anything else could come of this.
"Damn what a day."he said to himself fingering his brocken clockwork gun."Wel first things first, gotta find a place to stay THEN I'm gonna get this thing fixed."

Knocking on the door the inn he waited. It was pretty late at night but Edward hoped that the commotion would've woken someone up. But they didnt.
Knocking more time he heard some swearing and a few bangs followed by more swearing all of which came from multiple people upstairs. Eventually a disleveled man with a candle came out and opened the door. "WHAT!" He yelled when all of a sudden Edward put a clump of money under his noes. "Uhh come right this way sir we have plenty of room."
And with that Edward retired to his bed and went to sleep.

Jon finished praying for Ace when yet another scream ran out. There was a circle of people outside the bar, and in the center...

Amy, her hair alight, the whiskey refusing to go out. But the crowed around her just watched, entranced by the burning, flailing sight before them as she struggled to put out the blaze.
He ran into the bar and grabbed a pail, then sprinted back out again.
"Move!" he shouted, and as the crowed parted, he emptied the pail onto Amy
She screamed again in shock as the water struck her, but the fire was out.

He spun around and shouted at the crowed. "For the Love of God! Have you no hearts? What kind of people stand by and watch a fellow human being burn? It does not matter who they are, what they have done, all people are worthy of your aid, lest you prove yourself less than them!"

He looked to the barmaid. "Amy, are you ok now? What happened?"

I didn't mean to spoil you special surprise =(

Amy sniffled, the smell of burnt hair surrounding her like an aura. "I'm... I'm fine, Jon." She stood, feeling at the tattered remains of her once-lustrous hair. "Jeff attacked me again." She growled, balling her fists and glancing around for the knife she had thrown.

She shuddered, the combination of cold night air and cold water chilling her to the bone. "Jon, I thank you from the bottom of my heart." Curtseying to him, she continued in a slow tone. "I could very well have died had you not intervened."

Turning to the crowd, Amy smiled; an odd sight, the bright white of her teeth against her soot-encrusted face and blackened hair. "Now, if you all wouldn't mind, please get to bed. It's late, and we've got a meeting tomorrow."

"Meeting? Amy, that was Ace's idea!" Someone from the crowd laughed.

Amy grinned. "You're right. And as far as the town's concerned, Ace's goals are my goals from now on. I'm taking over the bar, and I intend to continue that man's legacy." Amy shook her head, water flinging about her in a small circle. "C'mon, you all. Get home; it's late, and I need to have a little chat with Mr. Jon and the Sheriff."

As Amy gave her speech Jeff lay there in the bar doorway bleeding out. Blood continued to splatter out of his wound. Amy's throw guided the knife right about Jeff's hip and landed in his spine, instantly paralyzing him.

As he lay there on the bar floor, flopping like a fish out of water, he lay face first in his own pool of blood and slowly began to drown.

As Amy thanked him and curtseyed, Jon returned it with a stiff bow, and to the watchers he was visibly a different person. He held himself taller, and there was an impression of barely contained violence around him. He spoke to Amy coldly, as if he was suppressing the urge to shout in anger.

"It was naught but my duty to help you, and I could have done nothing else, unlike this miserable lot." A man in the crowed hung his head, and people muttered, "But if you had shown him love, Jeff would have lost his hatred, and this would not have happened. Perhaps you can learn a lesson from this. Now, we must talk we the Sheriff."

He stalked off and the crowed parted before him.

As he listened to Nyles? story of the slaughtered horses, Drummond?s head dropped visibly.
Damn and blast, this is all we need right now.
?Just let me finish my drink??
His voice tailed of as he realised he was in over his head. Hope Falls had been an easy place to sheriff up until recently, but now it was starting to go quickly downhill.

As Amy lifted her bloodied hand from the bar, Drummond looked up briefly, but quickly turned back to his whiskey glass.
Good thing it?s the strong stuff?
With that, he slumped forward, pushing his whiskey glass over the edge of the bar. He snored his way through the next few moments, waking to see the flame-haired Amy rushing through the bar door and Jeff collapsing with a blade in the small of his back.

In his semi-inebriated state, Drummond waddled into the doorway and knelt down briefly next to the blood covered Jeff. He yanked the knife from his back, pocketed it and leant back down to pull Jeff up and set him against the door.
?You?re in a bad way, boy. I pray that Doc can help you??

Standing again, the Sheriff strode unsteadily out into the night.
?Sheriff! Sheriff?? a voice cried out from the crowd.
?Not now. Give me five minuitesh? then I want to see you? he pointed overdramatically at Amy ??in my offish.?

As he entered the sheriff?s office, he grabbed a canteen of water from a peg near the door. He took a quick swig, then poured the rest on his face. After a night like this, he had to be at his best. Taking a seat behind his desk, he waited to see who would come through the office door?

If anyone wants to pop in, that's fine. I'm expecting Amy, but that's up to her.
On a personal note, I've got a long work day tomorrow, so expect responses ~ 24hrs from now.

Jon stalked into the office, and still everything about him radiated violence. He nodded to Drummond, then sat, and seemed to visibly compose himself. His face became calmer, and it while before it seemed he had been ready to lash out at any moment, now he seemed much more peaceful.

"Amy's coming here soon, sheriff, but she had another run in with Jeff, so she might be a minute tidying herself up."

Guys, I'm in England, and its getting late, so I won't be able to reply immediately in the discussion. Please don't jump to conclusions at the meeting before Jon has had his say, and assume he's listening intently while you speak

Sorry for not posting in so long, I have been busy, but thats no exxcuse, anyway...

Ethan had tossed and turned in his sleep for hours. dreams. burnt hair and flesh, wood. screams. a young boy, despartley trying to break out of the sheriffs arms, to try and get into the burning barn. he awoke in a sweat. this had been the third time...and then he heard the gun shots. " damnit! not again!" his mind was not well, he was confused. he quickly half-donned his shirt, pulled up his trousers, and grabbed his fathers Revolver. the Run into town would be cold without a coat. he didn't care. " it cant happen again, I wont let it" he said to himself quietly as the cold air of the night whipped his face. he ran into the barn's stables, quickly he awoke Stepper, the only horse he had, and jumped up. riding without a saddle would hurt. he didn't care. with a whip of his legs he was of into the night, with nothign more than a loose shirt. "I wont let you take them from me, not again!" he said, aiming his revolver into the air. with a scream of rage, he rode onward, beliving, hoping, praying he wasn't too late.

John took a seat in front of the bar and tried figure things out. Who was the kid and who attacked his town? Who killed all the horses and why? Where they indians or raiders? who killed the barman and why was he the target? John figured that all these questions would be answered soon enough.

Stepper began panting when he reached the well, and by the time he reached the Tavern, Stepper reared up, causing him to fall from the horses back. with a grunt, he fell to the dirt, a light shower of tears dripping from his face. he got up, and began trying to comfort the angry, tired, horse. the horse's Neighs could be heard all over Hope fall's. Ethan adjusted himself, trying to wipe the tears from his eyes. "It can't happen again...I won't let it!" he had no idea what had transfired, or what he was even doing. his dreams had scared him, angered him. scared him. his gut told him, and Amy, that something was wrong. and his gut was never wrong. he slowly staggerd his half-awake body in to the sallon door, pushing it open, and began scanning the room, half awake, dirt in his hair and a fresh cut on his face from the fall. "were...were's Amy?" he asked to no one in paticular.
