Dante's Inferno is based on Dante's Divine Comedy, which is a piece of writing about Dante's journey through the nine circles of Hell. I can't remember the exact order, but the 1st circle is limbo, the second is for the lustful, and so on.DuplicateValue said:

Well, at least they aren't too familiar with this poem beyond the fact that the protagonist is named 'Dante' and it takes place in hell. Beyond that, they crapped all over the source material. Which is a real shame, because the Divine Comedy is phenomenal, and they've reduced it to a God of War clone.
I don't doubt they are trying to make it controversial to sell copies.
What else does it have going for it?
Some of the circles are divided into sections. For example, the fifth circle has a section where murderers will go, and another for those who cut themselves or committed suicide. Those who commit suicide get their souls placed into trees and harpies tear at them for eternity.benbenthegamerman said:

I'm fine with that, because it's in context, rather than simply being thrown in for controversy (I hope). Isn't one of the levels of Hell meant to represent Lust? So having lustful images in there is hardly a massive crime against gaming dignity now, is it?

The thing that bothers me about this game is that they are flat-out TRYING to be controversial. They can't let the game stand on its own, they're rolling out this ridiculously elaborate advertising scheme. Which, albeit, is kind of clever, but it doesn't make me want to play the actual game. They're going to have to work pretty hard to convince me that a lot of the game is not pure shock value, as that is what a lot of this sounds like. Killing babies? Nude demons with large exposed genitalia? It just sounds like they took all the most potentially controversial things and threw them together in the context of Hell.
It still has potential though, I think. I'm just going to wait and see what others have to say first.
