Oh the flamewars, they comin.

It's really not a question of who deserves what, just a question of will it sell enough on PC to get the devs / publishers interested.
With the boom this created there really doesn't seem to be a shortage of buyers, hell even I might pick it up.

PS. Seriously, when was the last time a video game petition ever really done anything? Remember the 37,000 member boycott over L4D2?
It's true, they don't achieve anything because the average gamer is a spineless worm, half of those petition guys were playing L4D2 within weeks.

I was going to spend money on it until I found out it wasn't for PC.

That's one of those lost "potential sales" they always whine about.

We're having the debate in the present day, and those are the market prices of the consoles in the present day, so those were the prices I compared by. If you wanted to buy a console or a PC right now, the console would probably be cheaper.
This is true if you simply view your PC as a game box, which it isn't nor should. The versatility is well worth the extra cost versus a console.

You're not going to get the same results out of a console that you would out of a PC, but you're going to have to work as hard to get them. A console owner can be reasonably certain that, when he puts the game into the drive, it'll work just fine, or at least as good as everybody else's.
True again, but some people, like myself, don't see convenience as a selling point when you have relatively less freedom. I hate how I can't change any settings, I hate how frame rates are locked and I hate how I'm forced to use their proprietary controller. Things like resolution and frame rate are a sales killer for me, since low res and fps give me a migraine.

Whereas PC owners have to put up with things like Rage's driver issues, or any of the issues that arise when the developers of a game wage a mysterious vendetta against your choice of graphics card.
Incidents like Rage are extremely rare, it was entirely Id softwares own incompetence for releasing a game built on their own custom in house drivers that nobody outside their office would have access to. But I will admit that ATI users tend to have it tough when it comes to drivers, since a lot of games are built with Nvidia in mind. Fortunately it's rarely a big issue and can generally be fixed with simple work arounds, assuming ATI didn't release a new set of drivers or patch the same day. This all varies on developer.

Although console gamers have the benefit of the used market, I don't see it as such. Most of the time, used titles aren't much different in cost than the new copy. Unless you plan on trading multiple games in at a time to drop the cost of a title near zero dollars. In my opinion though, trading in more than one game for a single game seems a tad ludicrous.

Note: I'm simply trying to add to discussion as well as being informative.
Like I said: some people do just want a game box. Some people just want to pop in a disk, start up the game, and not have to worry about whether their hardware fits the bill or reconfigure settings for fifteen minutes so the whole shebang goes at a consistent framerate. Most of the side-benefits can be bothersome as well; not everybody wants to have to reconfigure an emulator for two hours so they can play Space Hulk on Windows 7 (actually had to do that once for various reasons; still worth it). If you have five-year old laptop that does everything you need, and you just want something for games, then a console might just be for you. Different products for different consumers, like all economic systems.

It's really hard to want to be sympathetic to the PC gamer's cause here, after more than a few of the PC elitists had the fucking nerve to say "it's your fault for playing Skyrim on the PS3" back when we were all raging about the locking up issue.

I signed it though. It's a good game, and I want to try to avoid letting pettyness get in the way of more progress within the industry.

God, TB does know how to make himself a **** sometimes.
But whatever, I'll sign it. Always nice to get a great game out there a bit more.
He's a giant PC elitist like all the time, but he does have some very good points.
I agree. But seriously, what the fuck was that "I'd like to see it be on PC where it can truly be appreciated!" shit? Over 1.5 million copies sold in under a month! That's a fucking lot of copies, y'know?
I like how saying PC users would appreciate the game for perfectly valid and maturely presented reasons immediately makes him some sort of fanboy elitist ****. These days saying anything remotely positive about a PC automaticaly makes you an asshole, and the people who call you a **** despite no offense being given are considered the good guys. Classy.

Gorilla Gunk said:
Any decent argument he made was nullified by his "Only PC gamers can truly appreciate a game like this" argument. What a twat.
Feel free to point out where he said that. You are literally putting words in his mouth, do you understand that? And I'm not even saying this as an argumentative point, I'm saying you factually just said something incorrect. I hope you don't enter any sort of debate without first realizing the mistake you've made here, because it's a pretty bad mistake and worth noting.

This is one of the rare occasions where I wish I had a console because the game didn't come to PC. A very, very compelling game from what I have seen and I wouldn't hesitate purchasing if there was a PC port.

No. Just no.

You do not know the amount of no that's going through my mind.

Just. No.
Please state a reason as to why? all the information i gain from your post is (purely educated guess on your thoughts right now) 'I DON'T WANT THE PC ELITISTS TO THROW SOMETHING ELSE AT MY FACE!'.
And you'd be right. I'm both a console and PC gamer, but I absolutely can't stand PC elitists, and I can't imagine wanting to play this with any of them.
I never understand this mentality... We're all gamers; even if a vocal minority of PC gamers are assholes I'm signing it because It'd bring joy to a portion of people that otherwise wouldn't be able to play this wonderful game.

Stooping to the level of the snobs is not the right way to look at this situation. Simply remember the people out there who genuinely want to play games. Besides, if it comes out on steam you can go about kicking those PC snobs asses on PS3.

Daaark Souuulss!

Because games like Skyrim and Monster Hunter aren't enough to feed my ravenous hunger for death! One of the times I regret not having a console - but that's just the master plan now isn't it Sony?

So there - petition signed. Thanks for sharing OP!

I will admit the only reason I haven't bought Demon Souls or Dark Souls yet is because they were not released on the PC. It would be cool to see it come out on the PC but I doubt it will though.

Ah, an internet petition. Those always work.

That said, it couldn't hurt. Signed.

I would like to buy Dark Souls for PC. As it is, I will eventually buy it for PS3. But it will be used and at bargain-bin price.

Luckly there is no online pass so you can buy it used. :)

I think a forum goer a LONG time ago stated this perfectly on the Console/PC Elitism:

Rivarlies, both between companies and their fans, have always been there.

Nintendo and Sega had a friendly competition, mostly in good fun ("Nintendon't" is hilarious) and Nintendo won in the end.

N64 vs PSX was so interesting, it practically spawned two distinct gaming directions. Everybody, especially the gamers, won.

The PS2 won its generation by the sheer number of great games, even if most of them also came out on GCN or the PC or whathaveyou. Sony won so hard, Nintendo made a waggle-platform next, to avoid the tough fight altogether.

Then the XBox came along, and the Console Wars were born. "My cheap assortment of near-identical hardware running 98% of the same games is much better than yours, you dirty fanboy!" Every gamer lost.

The PC was only dragged into this because for the first time since the Commodore64, their plastic boxes full of fans could compare to some of our mid-range machines, so naturally everybody made sure we would lose some, too. Misery loves company?

It's not very admirable of PC Gamers to let themselves be dragged into these ego-measuring contests (especially since it's kindergartners inviting full-grown men...), but there you go.

And all that just because the guys who make the most money in PCs decided to give everyone cheap and easy access to online trash-talking. Good job, Bill Gates.

Back to the topic: I'm signing it. I would love to play (and mod, and extend the gameplay with new maps, expansions, etc.) Dark Souls, and I would tell all my PC friends who are tired of the grindy WoW RPGs to go out and get it, and they would tell their friends, and they would tell their Guilds, and so on.I not only want to play Dark Souls, I want to take Dark Souls and make more out of it. Not because I feel elitist modding it, but because I CAN.

Stopped reading after the first page but this sounds good. I have Dark souls on Xbox and it would never run on my pc unless I put uranium in the disk tray or something but it sounds like a good idea to me, I don't see why they shouldn't get it.

PC gamers who are wondering why people oppose this however, I will tell you now that it is because of the elitists among you. I myself am friends with a PC elitist and it's pretty tiresome when he goes off on a rant about how PCs are better.
I wish people would realize that although PC gaming can be better in many way's, it also takes a lot more work and is more expensive. Some people such as myself just prefer to play consoles more since they are easy and simple, just put the disk in and play.

Back on topic. Thumbs up for this idea, hopefully it will be a good port and plenty of fun mods will be developed.

So what you can break the game? If this comes out for the PC, they best not allow it to be moddable. If they do, then the whole way the game works would be plagued by hackers and modders.

The game is mean't to be played online, so players can join each other and invade each other. But then if suddenly a person went online with a OTK modded weapon. The whole game would be broken.

In a game such as Skyrim (just for example) modding is fine because its online or BF2 with Project Reality. But in a game like Dark Souls, it just doesn't lend it self to modding. The game doesn't have dedicated servers in which you pick which one to join or private games. In stead, everyone is put together. Thus hacking would never work.

Plus considering it would be a port, and most likely a third-party to do it (since From Software has made like, only a couple of PC games) and they wouldn't be able to add new features like that to the game.
