I ended up using both the Silver Pendant and the Greatshield of Artorias. Once Manus felt the icy fingers of death creeping up his spine, he starting spamming his magic attack, used it 4-5 times in a row. I tried toggling between Estus and the Pendant, but I started to get mixed up, so I decided to just leave it on Estus and tank the damage with the shield since Jumbo Palace said it was feasible (and I was entirely ready to blame him if I failed, btw.) It wasn?t comfortable, but he was right; it worked. And just like last time, I had Manus down to a half of a sliver of piece of a tiny bit of health, and he grabbed me out of nowhere and started slamming me around. I DIDN?T throw my controller, but I DID jump off the couch and scream ?YOU SONUVABITCH!!? When I realized I?d survived, I couldn?t swing my halberd fast enough.hanselthecaretaker said:JUMBO PALACE said:Dude... that's brutal. I'm gonna give you a moment of silence..................................
Alright well buckle up buttercup you've gotta down this mother fucker.
Side note: I've always seen people recommending the pendant for negating the dark attacks but I've always just turned around and used my shield to block most of the damage. Seems so much easier and nearly as effective as using the pendant.
Yup, Greatshield of Artorias worked well for me. I tried the pendant a couple times but it felt like more of a distraction than anything. Not worth relying on if you have something better to negate the damage.
Anyways, congrats on Manus OP. Kalameet's patiently waiting, along with another Titanite Slab if you haven't gotten it yet. Also keep in mind what you wish to accomplish yet before NG+. It's pretty satisfying to clean up loose ends; kinda like a victory lap before the final showdown.
Indeed! Wouldn't have made it this far without yoos guys!!Fox12 said:Hell yeah! That means there's only one challenge left. And it was all thanks to

I can?t really bring myself to use Havel?s gear. I see too many people using it, fat rolling and tanking through everything, and it technically works, but I think it takes away from the ?sweet science? of a genuine Dark Souls experience. I?d much rather go the opposite way; my life?s goal is to get to the point where I can do a naked, bare fisted, zero death playthrough!vallorn said:As a future tip, the Magic Barrier miracle of Havel's that you can find down in Ash Lake nearly nullifies magic damage. Combine that with the physical protection of Havel's gear and his greatshield and you can pretty much tank through Manus's fight.
I'm holding you to ALL of that!hanselthecaretaker said:If you could do that, in my book you would be considered set for life if I ran things. Hell we already have people set for life for doing less than nothing. There would also be a SoulsBorne holiday in observation of all things SoulsBorne.
I HIGHLY recommend it if you're into mental pain and stress that manifests itself as physical pain and stress followed by undeniable feelings of accomplishment. I imagine this must be what childbirth must feel like...Faaip said:This thread is making me think I need to go back and play the DLC
Well, I just attempted Special K once, which coincidentally is precisely how many times I managed to actually hit him. I see what you all were going on about; I'm a little concerned.vallorn said:Have fun getting Special K's tail weapon, it's the worst one in the game to get.
I've got to Google that now...hanselthecaretaker said:^^All the plague babies crawling around the bottom of the Valley of Defilement would like to have a word with you.
It's from Demons Souls if you were wondering. And that entire zone is like Blighttown's older, more horrible cousin.Xprimentyl said:I've got to Google that now...hanselthecaretaker said:^^All the plague babies crawling around the bottom of the Valley of Defilement would like to have a word with you.
I like how he has pretty much all the same complaints as me, but still manages to make Kalameet his ***** all while casually chatting to the viewers; when I play, I?m so focused and tense, I damn-near pop a blood vessel. I?m pretty sure Dark Souls has shaved a decade off my life.vallorn said:Once again, Gripes to the rescue!
Enjoy the griping!
Watching Plague of Gripes? video there, it would seem you?re on to something with the <25% equip load; I wouldn?t mind being faster to take advantage of the narrow windows Kalameet permits himself to be attacked. I?m not even thinking about the tail weapon anymore?hanselthecaretaker said:Equipping the lightest, most fire resistant gear (Gold Hemmed, Flame Stoneplate ring, Flash Sweat, etc.) is the first logical choice. <25% is ideal of course but you may need to compromise if you want to keep Arty's shield on and not need Havel's ring. I think I used the Flame Stoneplate ring + Steel ring, and was still able to trip him up being <50%. The toughest part of this fight is getting position and holdin it long enough to do decent damage.

Ah, so it's a vacation destination then?hanselthecaretaker said:Yeah, Blightown is more like Delightown next to Defilementia.
It's a test of strength. You're only 1 of a long string of "chosen" undead who have been swindled into trying to link the fire. O&S are there as a barrier so only someone capable of taking down Gwyn and his band of misfits gets their hands on the Lord Vessel and continues the quest.Xprimentyl said:Lore question: if Gwynevere (Gwyndolin) wanted me to have the Lord Vessel and link the fire, then why did she (he) allow her (his) pitbulls O&S to try and stop me from getting it?
That would make a certain amount of sense, but brings about another question: if Gwyn sacrificed himself to the flame... then who are we fighting in the Kiln of the First Flame? He's looking pretty good for someone supposedly with 104-degree burns. Why can't he sacrifice himself again? Has he gone hollow?JUMBO PALACE said:It's a test of strength. At least that's how I see it.
Gwyn is Hollow. He's been burning his Soul for....well, however, long he's been down there(which apparently was a very long time ago) and it's nearly extinguished. Those two reasons are why he can't sacrifice himself again. He's already burning, pretty much low on life energy/his soul(thus the flame is getting low and the undead curse is spreading) and he's hollow so he doesn't have the presence of mind to re-sacrifice himself even if he could. It's implied the extreme pain and suffering of literally burning alive for god knows how long broke his mind and spirit.Xprimentyl said:That would make a certain amount of sense, but brings about another question: if Gwyn sacrificed himself to the flame... then who are we fighting in the Kiln of the First Flame? It would seem Gwyn, Gwyndolin and Frampt all want the same thing; why does it seem Frampt and Gwyndolin are plotting against Gwyn?
Pretty much what Dalisclock said. I was going to give you a "you'll just have to wait until you meet Gwyn and see for yourself" but there ya go.Xprimentyl said:That would make a certain amount of sense, but brings about another question: if Gwyn sacrificed himself to the flame... then who are we fighting in the Kiln of the First Flame? Gwyn has gone completely hollow. There's nothing left of him other then a husked out corpse. You're basically just putting him out of his misery.Xprimentyl said:That would make a certain amount of sense, but brings about another question: if Gwyn sacrificed himself to the flame... then who are we fighting in the Kiln of the First Flame?
