I'm loving Dark Souls. As cruel as it is, I can't help but love it.
But every now and again something happens, be it good or bad, that you want to tell people. Maybe it was how you beat that boss on the first try, or how you were down to your last Estus Flask and stranded in the middle of a level.
I'm not expecting this thread to be the most popular of the week, but if you do have a story feel free to comment instead of holding back and making me look stupid!
I guess I'll start... huge wall of text ACTIVATE!

Ok, I'd heard a lot about 'The Depths'. Some people said it was hard, others said it was easy, but all I know is:
It was quick.
I was in human form, meaning i could summon co-op partners and also be invaded. I entered The Depths for the first time and killed a few zombie people, before taking on a tough mini-boss who I can only presume people referred to as a Butcher, since before the fight he was cutting up meat. I saw the way I was supposed to go, but noticed a hidden passage behind some boxes in the room I killed the Butcher in. Knowing that Dark Souls is big on exploration, I risked it for a biscuit, or in this case awesome loot.
But alas, this IS Dark Souls we're talking about.
I fell down a hole that took me deep into the level, way past where I should. Below me was a mini-boss, a huge rat. Thanks to my new position I easily killed it with a few Fireballs to the face from my awesome new sniping spot.
I jump down, loot some Humanity from the rat and carry on.
What's this? A waterfall of sewage? Wait, I don't wa-
I was pulled down this 'sewagefall', and landed in a maze of sewers, weird creatures with huge eyes attacking me. And then, something worse happened.
''Phantom ______ is invading your world.''
Only feet away from me I watched in horror as a high level player, an aura of red surrounding him, rose from the floor. He had amazing armor and weapons, and I knew I was done for.
At first I ran, but the only way out of this sewer system I had fallen into was blocked by him. I guess I have to fight him...
2 minutes later, he was dead. I have no idea how, but I had beaten him, looted his shield and been rewarded 8000 souls and 1 Humanity. Thank god for Pyromancy!
To my surprise, the sewers I had fallen down took me straight to the end of the level, near the boss. Since I was in human form, I summoned a few friends to help me.
We killed the boss, and along with the key to Blighttown and 12,000 souls I got an amazing axe thanks to a co-op partner who cut off the Gaping Dragon's tail.
Unknowingly, I had beaten The Depths on my first run-through, in about 30 minutes.
...
Hell yes.

alot of dark souls threads sparking up lately...

the only story i have to tell is somehow killing the Hellkite dragon (the dragon on the bridge) by running past him and got 10,000 souls out of it, is that supposed to happen?

Nope, apparently that dragon is glitchy as hell.

That red phantom is a scripted NPC, just so you know, not an actual player.

The Depths is easily one of the easiest levels in the game. I have yet to be cursed by the frogs.

Really? Damn, I felt so good about myself! Never mind, I got a shield and some souls out of it!

It happens, I honestly thought it was another player as well until I read up on it (player phantoms don't drop equipment, so I thought it was odd).

There are a number of them throughout the game.

I also just finished the depths and also found it pretty easy in comparison to the rest.
the frog things were not that hard for me and the gaping dragon was also not that hard of a boss. Did some grinding there for souls and humanity (these rats give humanity quite often)

I am now in blightown at the bonfire and just found the shadow armor (nice poison resistence)

So far, I am really loving this game although it sometimes is frustating.
Best game I played on my xbox till now

Who knows, dragon died for me when I got up one of the towers behind it and decided to shoot an arrow. One arrow. Dragon died, I guess. (wasn't actually looking, panicked after I shot the arrow and it got mad, wasn't sure if it would be able to attack me or not, next thing I know I had more souls and it was gone)

-snip-
I had almost the exact same experiance (minus the fireballs as im not a pyromancer)... i fell down the sewer and there was a basilisk waiting for me that instantly cursed me because i didnt know about curse then and i was hollow so my resistance to it was pretty much non existant.

But then i went back and got to the point where the first slime monster appears, it dropped on my head and killed me and i burst out laughing because i thought the game had literally taken a dump on my character.

Then i went back again and i accidentally hit the merchant that sells the crystal stuff and the bottomless box whilst fighting a slime thing.. so i had to farm 70,000 souls to request absolution so that i could trade with him again -.-

And then i went back, bought the items and then beat the Gaping Dragon the first time... Incidentally its also probably my favourite monster of the game so far, it just looks so freakin creepy.

After I was cursed by the frogs, I decided to go to New Londo to the wizard there that can lift the curse for humanity. I had no ghostbusting potion (forgot the name) so I had to make a run for it past the ghosts. But got gang rapped when one stepped in front of a narrow passage and wouldn't let me pass. Tried again, got zerged again and died. Again, and again. got to the ladder to kick it down. Tried to make a run for the building where the wizard was at but got caught up in the maze like interior, pwned again. Let's just say it took my 8th to 10 try to get to the wizard and lift my curse. Of course I got zerg rapped again trying to come out. Revived at the bonfire, called it a day...lol

When you are cursed you can hit ghosts. Transient Curse only give you a temporary "cursed" status so you can hit them when you aren't cursed. A cursed weapon also works.

It's not the depths that is hard , it's blightown on your first runtrough with out looking at the walkthrough. Also the rat can be one shotted if you jump off ledge and stab him.

Demons ruins . Lava everywhere , 6 taurus demons , final destination. First time i went there , i tried taking on 1 of the taurus demons ( right after i rung the second bell) and i failed BUT i wanted to see what they were protecting SO... i revived and i decided that i was going to do some good ol fashionned ass hauling. As soon as the first taurus guy saw me i started running for my life ( litterally ) but i was running IN his direction. Pass the first 4 before jumber 5 sent me flying. Picked myself back up and kept on running. I saw an. Blue light IN the lava . Split second decision, is this what they are protecting? Do i risk it? The axe i heard behind me didn't give me much of a choice . I kartwheeled ( yeah you heard me ) into the lava picked up the item, a fucking chaos ember! No time to contemplate the reward i got , still had 6 giant axe weilding taurus demons wanting my skin , so i kartwheeled out of the lava , leaving me with a sliver of health, i starting runing praying all the while that the demons don't catch up to me . New problem , HOW DO I GET BACK WHERE I CAME FROM? all the runing left me disoriented , so i was dodging 6 giant axes , avoiding fire and looking for a way out , i saw an entrance being guarded by a capra demon ,Nope , fucking Nope not that way. Eventually i found my way out , and rested at the bonfire , i didn't eve. Realise ive been holdong my breath for the last minute of this epic runing spree.

Here's today's adventure, I went to Blighttown, continued through a secret passage that I thought would take me to Qualagg. The path led all the way down to the roots of some giant tree all heading down wards. Continued on. Cross paths with boggy eyed cursing frogs, made passed them, got all the way to the bottem to a place I call underworld where a giant hyrda awaited. Crossed the white sands as I got bombarded with the Hydras attacks, but made it to save place where a giant dragon awaited standing next to a bonfire. Now I'm praying to a dragon and offering sacrifices....God I fucking love this game...XP

Thats exactly what happened to me, I didnt even realise it was a secret route. As ai was coming out from praying to the dragon i saw the hydra trying to get onto the land hear near the tree. Next thing I know Ive got 25,000 souls and its dissapeared?

Now I have to go find the other bell. Also how much damage to thoese mushroom men take? The big ones take about 3-4 minutes just to whittle them down for a measly 150 souls

Today I woke up in the sun-baked paradise world of Anor Londo. I couldn't even remember how many times I had been sent back to this bonfire. After making some small talk with the fire keeper I said my goodbyes and went on my way, hoping I wouldn't be seeing her again too soon. Having already lowered the elevator and opened the doors that gave me access to the palace I made my way straight to the immense guards. After defeating them so many times previously I quickly cut them down and was standing in front of the fog gate leading to what had been the cause of my many recent trips to the bonfire.

I crossed the gate and saw the giant hammer-wielding executioner, Smough, and the iron-clad knight Ornstein. I quickly threw my enchanted shield at the knight, catching it as it reappeared in my hands just to throw it again. Within three hits the knight fell dead on the floor in front of Smough. To my surprise Smough did not attempt to charge me, instead he slammed his hammer on the corpse of his friend, causing lightning to shoot down the blade. He then attacked. I had my shield ready to take the force of the blow but as it hit I felt a shock run along my arm and through my chest. Almost losing my grip on the shield I retreated and took out my enchanted shield once again. I hurled it with all my strength at the giant and felt it reform in my hand quickly, but he did not even seem to notice. I turned my back on my foe and ran, stopping only to throw my shield. The giant was wounded heavily but still preparing to leap at me. I quickly ducked under his hammer blow and thrust my sword into his exposed neck. He fell dead near to his now mutilated friend and, exhausted, I proceeded to the chamber of Gwynevere.

Can you spoiler the text you quoted though? The less people who know in advance about the second half of that fight the better ;)

They aren't as bad as I made out, they're still very hard but if you avoid melee with them you should get them down without too much trouble. Just get the hardest hitting ranged abilities you can find, I used the crystal ring shield.
