I don't think the first part of your post is entirely fair (the second part is though). Having not picked up the game yet I don't know how valid the comparison to WoW is, but I do get his gripe with skill trees and fetch quests seeming to be in fucking everything these days regardless of whether or not it really adds anything just because they've proven to be successful mechanics. Sometimes you do just want to be able to get all the skills without having to pick and choose, or having to do everyone else's busy work to earn it; and calling someone juvenile and stupid for just wanting an uncompromising experience every now and again rather than shoehorned in RPG elements that only add the illusion of depth and make no thematic sense is, well, juvenile and stupid. Why should a character like Death start off at novice level and then grow? He's the very embodiment of slaughter across all plains of existence for Christ's sake, he shouldn't need to prove his worth to anybody.

I like RPG's and RPG elements, I also like the occasional fetch quest grind. However, iff to many things have RPG elements and fetch quests just for the sake of it, or just because the developers needed to pad out the play time, rather than them actually making thematic sense, then they just become token and boring. There's nothing wrong with just wanting to kill shit once in a while, especially if you're supposed to be playing as fucking Death!
Stop reading too much into my WoW comparison. It was just a reference for the loot system that they put in Darksiders 2. I am starting to regret using a specific game in my initial post. Next time I will just put in .

now that i've actually had some time with it.

the camra can be a pain in the ass while jumping around

texture quality isn't as bad as I'd heard, though i did notice some graphical hicups here an there

already knew this, but where they have they key mapping options is retarded (its in the inventory menus if you haven't found it, no, not kidding)

as for drops, i gotten like 3 possessed weapons, one being a scythe, and i had an email waiting to give me 'The Makers Gear' so .... i've pretty much just been feeding my scythes every thing cause the Makers Armor pretty much blows every thing else out of the water right now, and my scythes are now better in every way then then pretty much everything I'll get for now, and i have two sub weapons that are just beastly, and a possessed set of claws I'm a play with once my scythe is maxed out.

combat wise, Death is very much different then War, i could pretty much tank with War, Death not so much (discounting the over powered weapon and armor mind you) and the dodge move is pretty much a required skill to master if your going for 'melee death god' like i am.

the platforming feel good, for the most part, cause, ya know, camera sometimes decides to not be a team player, as for Dust the crow, not used him, i just kinda let him fly around and follow the map, so donno how bird brained it really is.

so, yes, so far, loving it :D

I had problems with Darksiders 2 too. Apart from HORRIBLE graphics (the texture's quality and pixelated shadows are an insult to PC fans and even the fucking Darksiders 1 had razor-sharp textures and smooth shadows) the game is just wrong. It's totally NOT Darksiders. Original Darksiders was a truly God of War like experience. You could feel the awesomeness and badassness in everything, in main character, in combat system, in cutscenes and even in world's design. The atmosphere was great, the music fit like charm. Everything seemed to be perfect for each other and you could clearly see that it wasn't a coincidence, people at Vigil really wanted to make this game great and knew what they were doing. They copied what God of War and Zelda did good, mixed it with their own design and carefully started to craft their own piece of work, caring about every single detail.

And what is Darksiders 2? It's exactly the opposite of what I wrote about Darksiders 1. The whole game seems fucking lazy. The design of the world and characters is uninteresting and uninspired. As I said, it has horrible graphics, worse than the original. The atmosphere sucks. It's a fucking fairy tale. Seriously? They thought putting a badass character into a fairy tale would be good? And the music fits very well, ruining the game's atmosphere even better (and also I think the original had far more tracks). The combat system is dumbed down pretty much, Death's attacks are pretty much uninteresting. Enemies and bosses are boring. Overall, there is no more God of War in this game, not even Zelda (because the dungeons are simplified compared to the original). The only thing that is better, are the jumping puzzles. These I really enjoyed, but everything else.... everything else just sucks, because it's everything, but not Darksiders that I used to know. And they even put fucking NPCs into this game and dialogs.... guess they were too lazy to make actual, cool cutscenes like the original had.

The truth is, they changed this game so much, it doesn't resemble the original at all. Maybe if I didn't play the first game, I would find Darksiders 2 enjoyable. But deep down, in my mind, I know that the game I see, is not a game that it claims to be and compared to the godlike original, it is a joke. Unfunny one.
