Good God.
I'm probably going to see it, sooner or later, assuming the reviews aren't absolutely scathing (and I'll probably see it even then just for the spectacle, though I'll wait for a second run theater to pick it up.)
But... $1 billion...? Those aren't just "fill three theaters on the first night" numbers, those are "we'll go and see it again" numbers. I haven't seen anything in the trailers thus far that sells me on the level of "You haven't seen it yet? Look, I'll take you and go watch it a second time myself, it's that good." Once the spectacle has been seen, whatever plot details that remain unspoiled have been taken in, the performances witnessed in all their grand, pale, or hammy grandeur... What's left of this movie? Anticipation for all the tie-ins? DC and WB sure hope so, but I think a lot of people are going to leave the theater, blink into the light, clear their heads of all the bass-heavy explosions they've been exposed to, and make their plans to go see Civil War.
